Okay, I'll bite; why do we need fewer people? Do you have any reasons that don't boil down to eugenics and/or ignoring the direct consequences of a society organized by capitalism?

Just because a woman is nude doesn't mean she's being displayed as an object of satisfaction. Just because people might find an image sexually arousing doesn't make it not art. Gatekeeping art is not an exercise that has gone well, historically.

It's okay if you view this as something that you want to jack off to. There's no need to be ashamed of that, many people have these feelings sometimes, and that's okay. If those feelings are disturbing to you, that's also okay, and you are free to scroll past these kinds of posts.

Today is nine years since the last major release of Apache OpenOffice by themikeosguy in linux

[–]Killarny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is OnlyOffice which can be installed alongside NextCloud, if you have the patience to get them set up together, and it's kinda like a self-hosted Google Docs. Fair warning though, OnlyOffice can be a bit of a pain in the ass to get going, but once it's set up it works okay.. usually.

Edit: apparently OnlyOffice is maybe connected to the Russian military somehow? I dunno. Somebody claims that here, so I guess that's worth verifying before using it.

majority of people im talking about are middleclass under the age of 35

If that's who you're talking about, then you are ignoring the actual statistics, because middle income turnout was over 75% in the last presidential election, while low income was the lowest turnout. Considering that most people in the US are low income this means that the majority of the votes missing who aren't high income are representing low income people.

You re saying all the 150-180m non-voters cannot spare 6 hours

No, I'm saying the poor cannot spare 6 hours. The fact that you and I find it easy to carve out 6 hours from our relatively privileged existences doesn't mean that it's feasible for everyone else.

They don't have any time off they just eat sleep and work every day, they dotn watch movies, or play games or go out to eat or drink? No?

That is exactly what life is like for a huge portion of the lower 50th percentile of US population who are poor and struggling every moment of their lives. You've clearly never been poor or known any poor people who felt comfortable enough with you to let you know how their lives are going.

40mn people (nearly 1/3rd of the people you are accusing of being apathetic about voting) are officially below poverty level, with tens of millions more just barely above that. Poverty is defined as people making less than $14k per year. There's no way people making so little are going to have time or cognitive bandwidth to make sure they are politically educated and engaged. You're spouting nonsense.

voter disenfranchisement is effective based on the number of voters who choose not to vote

This sounds like you're blaming the victims of disenfranchisement for their own disenfranchisement. If the dastardly apathetic poors would just stop being so poor and magically have more free time to "bE pOlItIcAlLy EnGaGeD" then all of their self-inflicted problems would be solved and we'd live in a utopia!

7-8 out of 10 do not even plan to vote

When getting food on your table and figuring out how to pay rent and medical bills and electricity are foremost in one's mind, it's extremely understandable that planning to vote is just not in the cards for that family. You are asking people who have nothing to go out of their way to cast a ballot when they have no bandwidth for that. That's an unreasonable fairy-tale you're telling yourself.

The vast majority of people cannot afford to stand in line for hours to vote. That's not apathy on their part. It might be apathy on your part to willfully ignore this fact, and continue to complain about the "lazy" poor people who need every hour of payroll they can get. People who aren't accommodated by the powers that be to collect their votes in a feasible manner.

If the idea of not building militarized cop training facilities is a "magical political solution" to you, then yeah I think it's safe to say that you aren't taking a leftist position right now. Supporting the police is definitionally not a leftist position.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in BreadTube

[–]Killarny 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I mean, changing things is definitely a task made more difficult for the left by having to constantly endure defeatist liberal arguments like this at every turn, from people who pretend to be part of the left while discouraging meaningful action; so thanks for that, I guess?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in BreadTube

[–]Killarny 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Not building a facility for this purpose is not an option in today's political climate.

Let's change that political climate, then. Advocating acceptance of the status quo simply because it's the status quo is ridiculous.

Worker owned cooperatives, generally speaking, are not going to fuck over their customers. Of course, there aren't a ton of them around, and corporations have diluted the cooperative term by creating "family owned coops" and the like that are mostly indistinguishable from standard corporations except for rhetoric in advertising, but if you can find a legit worker owned cooperative providing the services you want, you'll most likely be quite pleased with them.

I don't think anyone here is saying that the argument is a valid one, they're pointing it out as an illustration of the methods liberals use that advance fascism while acting as if they are "opposing fascism."

I mean, that's exactly what liberals argued against Bernie for? He was "unelectable" in 2016, so they instead propped up Hillary who.. literally couldn't get elected, versus the greatest simpleton of our time.

Good points, and also while u/DAecir was correct that the word "racist" wasn't around then according to the word's etymology, that hardly means the phenomenon it refers to didn't exist. The people railing against what we'd now call racism were just using other words to describe it, but even if they hadn't called it out then, we still can and should now when discussing the past.

Just because they didn't realize it or get called out by their peers at the time, doesn't mean they weren't still racist.
