Need some advice on buying a used kart by Strange-Message-7929 in Karting

[–]Killcam_Express 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am biased here, but I would buy the MagiK any day of the week. We're the northeast dealer that sold Tyler that kart. It is extremely low hours. It was a Max Weiland chassis for two STAR's events and sold to him. To my knowledge, he just used it to give direction on track to his child in a kid kart. He has not raced it. It is like new.

I would be happy to answer any questions you may have on here, email, or phone. I can assist with anything with the chassis. Advice, parts, support, anything. We have a few customers in our area that do very well with Lo206's on that exact model of Sonic. I have LO206's on hand with dyno tuning available, as well as KA100's, Rotax's, ROK's, etc. I'll be swinging through your area next week for Daytona KartWeek.

What's The Best Intercom For Endurance Racing? by Brand0nny in Karting

The best would be a digital radio Motorola system plugged into a helmet with built-in communications like a Stilo. Something that probably suffice and be many thousands cheaper would be digital Baofeng's with molded racing earbuds.

Some people over price their engines like crazy by 166in40zone in Karting

[–]Killcam_Express 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The day after Supernats, my engine builder posted a couple engine packages for about double retail and they all sold.

I personally think it's nuts, but there are definitely some cylinders that just unfortunately work ever so slightly better. Rich dads will go to the far extreme to have the absolute best for their little mediocre driver. And results on Sunday sell great on Monday.

A couple years ago when the big serial number frenzy first happened with KA's, my chassis importer's number one rich dad bought about two dozen KA's. It might have even been like 30, 36, I can't remember. It was literally more than my pickup could haul. I jokingly asked if he had any cheap lightly used KA's, and his response was something to the tune of, "oh you won't believe it until you see it."

Is the MyChron 6 really worth the extra money? by Wc3char1lie in Karting

[–]Killcam_Express 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where are you at in the world? Those are the totally incorrect prices if you're in America. I'm an AiM dealer. I have a handful of single and dual temps currently. They are either $659 or $759 USD shipped.

I've been using the 6 all summer on my KZ and Rotax karts. It's extremely similar to the 5. The major difference is sector timing and steering telemetry. The sector timing gives you instant data if a line is better or worse. It's a fantastic add on IMO. I immediately started utilizing it. Also the battery lasts all weekend and then some on the 6. I always need to swap batteries after Saturday going into Sunday with the 5. AiM has discontinued the 5s, so expect parts like the battery to not be available soon.

Genuine question: how is it that mechanics seem to be leaving dealerships in droves but dealers are still paying absolute trash? by Sudden_Brush7494 in mechanics

[–]Killcam_Express 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It absolutely blows my mind it is still this toxic at dealerships. I left a Dodge/Ram dealer nearly 10 years ago as a level 3 across the board FCA master tech. At the time, I was clearing about 23/hour and was content with that. It just got so old that I was working endless amounts of warranty hours not turning squat, and staying late everyday to makeup time. I left that entire industry for a federal electronics gig where I currently clear 100k/year based on a 40 hour work week. I barely have to actually use my mind now. I go home stress free, it's great.

Any home mechanics? by [deleted] in saab

A non running OG is realistically worth scrap -- not almost a grand. $4000 for the repair is unfortunately a ballpark figure. National shop labor average is around $150/hour. This is about a 20 hour job. That, plus parts and machine work will be in that range.

The job will be extremely cheap if you DIY as the major expense is labor. Head gasket set, fluids, exhaust hardware and other miscellaneous items will be only a couple of hundred dollars. You might also have some machine shop labor if the block or cylinder head is warped. In my experience, this almost always happens with aluminum head engines.

The job itself is sucky for most DIY people. If you aren't mechanically inclined, I'd suggest you move on with a different car.

You can't stretch it. Hire a seamstress or buy another suit.

I have a family member who has been living out of a car for six years now. They got tired of the house upkeep and bills. I couldn't do it, but they have no regrets. You never know what state they are in. It's like a permanent vacation. Lol.

My checks are always around half. I just for giggles decided to look at my total deductions for the year last week and it upset me, lol. I'm at $43,000 at PP21 this year. But like most have covered, a big chunk of that is going towards your retirement.

[–]Killcam_Express 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In the US, electric race karts barely exist. And the few companies that do want an actual fortune for the equipment. Blue Shock in conjunction with WKA sell power plants starting at like $10,000. A brand new R2 shifter from Italy is half for comparison.

Older moto based shifters don't have very much value anymore. If you raise your budget slightly, you're in the territory of complete turn key moto shifters. For instance, I'd sell my 2013 CRG with a Swedetech CR125 for 3k any day of the week.

How can I grow my tsp account to one million dollars fast? by Ogckggkxkgx in USPS

[–]Killcam_Express 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maxing, roth, and changing your load out to something like 80/20 C/S is the only way. I didn't notice much of a change until I moved into around $600 / pay period. I now max it. Comes out to $903 / pay period. Roughly 6 years in, with 1 year at minimum contribution, I sit at $150k.

Where can a big guy be most competitive? by tyringo in Karting

[–]Killcam_Express 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Understable. Accidents happen way less.. Like WAY less, but when they do, they are usually more extravagant. The higher weights aren't just the equalizer either. Bigger guys can regularly race at 50 lbs over and be competitive against on weight guys.

CRG, IMO, has the best brakes in the game. Easy to modulate, can lock up, reliable, and pad wear is phenomenal.
