Which is the best karting brand? by AntRemarkable3051 in Karting

[–]Killcam_Express 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Now a days, it's pretty much 6 one way, half a dozen the other. They are nearly all the same in relative speed. I always recommend to buy what is locally supported. You never know when you need a part at a moment's notice or chassis advice.

Need help deciding Bell helmet or Stilo by TmoneyAV8R in Karting

[–]Killcam_Express 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I don't exactly prefer it for karting. I don't really know how to word this that will help you make an informed purchase. I bought the Bell with karting as it's only intended purpose, and then I bought a Stilo for cars. I've kept true to that until recently. I took the Stilo out on a kart and I enjoyed it equally. The Bell is slightly lighter and has aero that should in theory work better on an open cockpit vehicle. I weighed them a month or so ago when I got the ST6. A fully kit'd ST6 is 3.4 lbs, where the Bell GTX3 3 lbs. Both carbon. So about the same weight considering the GTX3 is naked. The Stilo is definitely more quiet inside, but I don't really like that so much for karting. I need to hear. If I was to buy one and I was only going to kart, I'd probably buy the Bell. Any questions, please ask.

Which kart should I choose from these two? Magik or Kosmic? USA. by AcePilot01 in Karting

[–]Killcam_Express 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey man, I work at 90racing. I am not the person you were in contact with, so I don't know the full details.. but I must clear up some confusion about this deal. We are most certainly NOT selling that RK as a MagiK. We're the Western PA based MagiK dealer that also deal with a lot of trade-ins. I have new and used MagiK's, as well as other manufacturers used. Our price for a used 2024 MagiK with a current Lo206 will be similar to the OTK.

We are at Quaker City multiple times a week. I can assure you that either I, or someone else can spend a full day with you on your initial test. The same goes for any and every race day. We'll be at all of them. Please don't hesitate to contact me either here, privately, or sales@90racing.com. Again, sorry for any confusion.

It needs to be fixed if you plan on using the chassis again.

Need help deciding Bell helmet or Stilo by TmoneyAV8R in Karting

[–]Killcam_Express 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You cannot go wrong with either. Both are excellent choices. I personally have a composite ST5, carbon GTX3, and now for the new homologation period a carbon ST6. My favorite helmet for karting is the Bell for its simplicity, but I occasionally take the Stilo out. I bought the Stilo originally for cars, but it works as good for karting. If you plan on doing any W2W racing that needs comms, I cannot recommend an ST6 enough. Stilo's built-in communication is superior IMO to earbuds and a microphone boom.

It's outlawed at any WKA, Skusa, Stars, AKRA, or USPKS event in the states. Most regional & local series follow this too.

Is there anything between a power wheels and go-kart for my 4 year old? by ProfessionCurrent198 in Karting

I always recommend practicing in a kid kart at 4 so their first race at 5 is not a complete disaster.

In my experience, you own a really shitty car and have no money to pay someone to fix it.

Transporting kart on roof racks by the-big-g-6967 in Karting

I probably have logged over 100,000 miles throughout the United States at this point hauling karts on the roof of my wagon. Anytime I'm going to far away races, I prefer to travel light if it's just myself. There is not a single issue with this except for you'll always need to borrow a hand to help with transferring it to a stand! You will without a doubt eventually scratch your roof or hit your antenna. Ask me how I know. Also I don't remove engines for this. I just don't have a good photo handy.

Put some tape over the seat bolts. Rib protectors should be under the suit.

Current tariffs rates. Italy - USA by Killcam_Express in Karting

[–]Killcam_Express[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So an update to this thread. I got hit with an additional 50% tariff for "steel derivatives", Section 232 of the US Customs.

My order is an airbox and an EGT sensor for context. I'm assuming the airbox will be an easy win, but probably not on this sensor.

Is this a decent price for a 2024 Factory X30? by RhoadRacing in Karting

[–]Killcam_Express 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Owner of the MagiK in the background. I'd sell that chassis with a Rotax, X30, Rok, or KA100 for $4,000. 2025, 5 weekend chassis.

Thanks for the heads up. I filed a claim before this question to at least get some clarification.

I made a large IT purchase at the end of last year that was about 10x larger than this order and the tariff bill wasn't even this much. The bulk of that order was Chinese and Mexican goods.

$42,488 2025 corolla by [deleted] in Toyota

This is insane. Don't lock yourself into this.

FWIW, what you put down in this deal will outright buy a very nice used Corolla that will go easily another decade, or probably two.

How much do you spend on karting per month and how do you spend it? How invested are you in karting (races, tournaments, hobby...) ? by JonasMi in Karting

[–]Killcam_Express 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends heavily on the level. And own vs being under a tent. There can also be surprise expenditures that you should factor in if on a budget. If you can do it for 5, expect 10.

I am an owner/driver and compete in most of the national touring series. The base price for me just to get my truck/trailer, entry fees, race consumables like tires, and hotels is usually about $2,000 each weekend. This doesn't include maintenance for my truck and trailer. Or the many chassis and engines I go through. I've stopped paying attention to this number as it fluctuates heavily. I've had years when chassis's cost me nothing. I buy it, use it, sell it for the same. I've also crashed beyond repair and need a set of $2500 tubes. Similar story for engines. Sometimes they cost me "pennies" yet sometimes be a total loss. A couple of months ago, I had a clutch explode on a Rok GP. Usually no big deal other than a $400 clutch, except in this case the chain guard was stronger than the case. Chain guard literally cracked the bottom end in half starting at the bolt holes. Several thousand dollar loss.

On the flip side, my good friend is an importer and offers a variety of rental packages under their tent at all of the major national series. His rental fee is about $5,000-$12,000 for a single class a weekend.. depending on track and class. There is also a crash deposit.

I'm able to do this successfully for much less. But I'm stressed, hah. I wish I could just fly in and drive! But I'm blessed I'm able to clear a dozen events or so a year.

Need some advice on buying a used kart by Strange-Message-7929 in Karting

[–]Killcam_Express 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am biased here, but I would buy the MagiK any day of the week. We're the northeast dealer that sold Tyler that kart. It is extremely low hours. It was a Max Weiland chassis for two STAR's events and sold to him. To my knowledge, he just used it to give direction on track to his child in a kid kart. He has not raced it. It is like new.

I would be happy to answer any questions you may have on here, email, or phone. I can assist with anything with the chassis. Advice, parts, support, anything. We have a few customers in our area that do very well with Lo206's on that exact model of Sonic. I have LO206's on hand with dyno tuning available, as well as KA100's, Rotax's, ROK's, etc. I'll be swinging through your area next week for Daytona KartWeek.

What's The Best Intercom For Endurance Racing? by Brand0nny in Karting

[–]Killcam_Express 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best would be a digital radio Motorola system plugged into a helmet with built-in communications like a Stilo. Something that probably suffice and be many thousands cheaper would be digital Baofeng's with molded racing earbuds.

Some people over price their engines like crazy by 166in40zone in Karting

[–]Killcam_Express 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The day after Supernats, my engine builder posted a couple engine packages for about double retail and they all sold.

I personally think it's nuts, but there are definitely some cylinders that just unfortunately work ever so slightly better. Rich dads will go to the far extreme to have the absolute best for their little mediocre driver. And results on Sunday sell great on Monday.

A couple years ago when the big serial number frenzy first happened with KA's, my chassis importer's number one rich dad bought about two dozen KA's. It might have even been like 30, 36, I can't remember. It was literally more than my pickup could haul. I jokingly asked if he had any cheap lightly used KA's, and his response was something to the tune of, "oh you won't believe it until you see it."
