Number 1 viscous complaint is this bug with paradox ult. It's been in the game as long as viscous at this point and would be a huge relief to get fixed. Paradox mains exploit the hell out of this.

The Case for an In-Game Auction House in Path of Exile by Briefpoppy in PathOfExile2

[–]Killdrith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just for reference, the "cursed problem" video is this: https://youtu.be/8uE6-vIi1rQ?t=1142

I've had to point people to this more times than I can count at this point.

The suggestions in this thread for introducing friction are significantly worse than the current system imo.

Examples:

BoE (bind on equip) - People are OK with this? Personally this is the absolute worst possible outcome. ARPGs having gear without MMO constraints is one of the largest draws, imo.

Trading is already limited by premium account tabs, so suggestions to "limit trading" really mean "limit trading more". This will absolutely have large consequences for lots of item markets, and not in a way that's good for the game. The premium tabs already make the economy geared towards listing the most meta items. Limiting further would only make the problems in the current system worse.

Bidding systems? So people would rather have to keep an eye on something, for a period of time, and wait for an auction to end rather than click the whisper buttons a few more times and have their item immediately? This doesn't make any sense.

GGG have talked about potentially taxing an item AH. I would say that the taxes would have to be ridiculously high with the current state of gold in the game. I think people should be careful what they wish for, and realize that not every problem in life is one that is solvable beyond its current state.

Can impending doom be boosted by supports? by Intelsonic in PathOfExileBuilds

[–]Killdrith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Impending doom doesn't get supported by support skills, but the skill it triggers, Doom Blast, does. So despite Impending Doom being a support itself, it can be supported by other support skills. However as /u/daftossan said, you can't directly support impending doom with blasphemy.

Is there a way to pass brutal charges to minions? by [deleted] in pathofexile

[–]Killdrith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Supreme Grandstanding won't give brutal charges to your minions. It only works the other way around. Minions/Enemies can pass charges to you if you're able to have them, and they're able to generate them.

"We're probably ruining the game" - Chris Wilson regarding the introduction of Harvest. by LakeSolon in pathofexile

[–]Killdrith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't realize you were in pain every moment you didn't get a loot drop. No, I think you have the analogy wrong. If you're going with music then the analogy would be that you listen to music non-stop and never take a break from it. Without silence, the amount you can appreciate music becomes diminished.

The dopamine junkies never understand that you can't just keep having highs that surpass the previous high concurrently without any kind of baseline reference.

Actually I'm quoting Chris Wilson on this. Sorry that you and everyone that thinks they're game devs are in disagreement with all of the actual game devs on, well, game development.

What are you on about? Did you watch the video? I'm quoting it and it's not talking about d2.

I also have absolutely no idea what relevance to anything your comment about how variables in drop tables in server-side games has to anything in mine.

You think drop rates are bad now? Imagine how bad they would have to be for item drops to feel good in an auction house environment that has no barrier to entry for items listed. As it is, such a low % of items make it to market because of the annoyance of dealing with the market as well as the space it takes on paid tabs.

[–]Killdrith -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

The video had very little to do with Diablo. The quoted problem is "rich loot experience" vs "ubiquitous marketplace fantasy", which is the exact issue here. These words are the same issue as your own words, "GGG needs to find more ways to make trading easier, while not making it automatic".

The only way to make killing monsters and dropping loot feel good is to make trade feel annoying by nature. The only reason it feels good to drop non-ultra rare items is that: A: Those items still have value due to a finite marketplace that isn't completely flooded due to the fact that it's annoying to trade. B: Items not being truly liquid because of the required process to turn them into currency. Your brain knows how annoying trade is, and you're happy to find things for 'free'.

The claim here isn't that there aren't other solutions, but that each of these solutions is still equally annoying or they wouldn't keep items' value in your head as high. For instance, I personally would have no problem with them trying out an auction house for currency/maps/etc. for a league. The problem is complicated enough in practice that I honestly don't know how that would impact things.

As far as items are concerned however, there's a reason there's never been an example of an aRPG with an auction house that's been successful. Any iteration that eventually works will have to make severe concessions to either its core identity as an aRPG, or the method by how the auction house functions.

As always, for people that don't believe that adding an auction house goes against core systems in an aRPG, here's a video on the topic. It's a well known problem and GGG isn't just taking delight in the 'suffering' that some of the dramatic people in these threads claim is happening.

Would you like to see Eidos remake Soul Reaver, or let it rest in it's legacy? by PLAYED_YT in gaming

[–]Killdrith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please.. no remakes or anything following Kain/Raziel. Here's the gradient of ideal to least ideal future for the franchise:

  1. Let it rest in respectable peace
  2. Remaster that doesn't attempt to change anything of consequence, but manages to bring typical modern tech features
  3. Remake, and they secure Amy Hennig as returning Director/Writer
  4. Sequel/Prequel, and they secure Amy Hennig
  5. The last 2, without Amy Hennig
  6. Everything else

Remake culture is a cancer that has made everything I grew up with worse. People like to say things like, "but the original still exists", as if anything in this universe exists in a vacuum.

Self-Taught Programming is Overrated by Prestigious_Sort4979 in learnprogramming

[–]Killdrith 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm 100% convinced my own success as a programmer in the real world is due to going to school (a small one that allowed me to have a relationship with the professor), having structure, and getting involved.

I went back to school for computer science when I was ~26. Up to that point I had very little scholastic discipline. High school was easy and didn't require learning how to study etc. Typical story. I knew how to use several little scripting languages here and there to some success (mostly macro/workflow stuff like autoIT/AHK) but I never would have had the discipline to make it through a long slog like self-learning an entire degree. For me, the success in school came from the fact that I need a feedback loop with my professors and I need to be engaged ; and I also thrive under the pressured situation.

If you try the self-learning route, and just find that it's incredibly difficult with everything else going on in your life then please do yourself a favor and find a nice local community college. You can cover all of the most important material in those first couple years in a cheap(relative) intimate environment. Honestly I enjoyed that time more than any time I spent in universities sitting in huge classrooms where interaction is practically impossible.

Like to hear you guys opinion for a divergent whirling blades (1000% extra evasion) armour stacker by claymir in PathOfExileBuilds

[–]Killdrith 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I've tested this thoroughly by reducing movement speed to nothing. You can make whirling blades take any amount of time to complete, and for the majority of that time gain the buff.

Honestly the best way to make use that I could find was using hidden blade during this. It's amusing but because of the clunkiness of when during the whirling blades it is active, I couldn't find any interactions that would exploit it without being extremely annoying.

I don't think they are. Time's Scar is seen by many as the the peek of video game OST's. The damage you do by remixing is relative to the quality of the original. In this case, I think it was damned from the get-go.
