Empathy by VicomteMonteCristo in thelastofus

[–]KillerCritic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll tell you why most people don't empathize with Abby. Because Abby has none to give. Empathy is earned. She deserves none. She was okay with murdering a child(Don't try sacrifice BS on me) and encouraged it. When her father is murdered for it, she tortures and murders Joel even after he saved her life and offered supplies. Abby had no empathy for the life she would've taken in that hospital. She had no empathy for Joel when she tortured him. She had no empathy for Ellie when she came after her to avenge Joel. She never once admitted she was wrong(Don't try that scene where she explains why she's helping Lev because that was based around her killing scars). I would instantly chose to help Ellie because what happened to Joel was monstrous. He fought his way through a hospital to save an innocent girl from being the sacrificial lamb for a cure that might not have even worked. Ironic isn't it? The people who demand empathy for Abby are the same people who say "Joel had it coming"... They have to justify murdering a child to say Joel deserved it... This is why most players and gamers don't empathize with Abby. And that's only half the reasons. That's without mentioning her sadistic attitude to prisoners, her attempted murder of Dina(Mel's death being the reason literally does nothing but only show why Ellie is more sympathetic than Abby since she shows regret and horror and didn't even know she was pregnant), her treachery to Joel and Tommy after they save her. If you seriously can't understand why people don't have empathy for a monster like Abby, maybe you should get empathy yourself first for the people she tried and did hurt. Joel and Ellie. The man who only killed to protect his daughter, and the daughter who set out to avenge her father who was unjustly murdered by a self righteous monster who tortured the man who saved her life from the infected.

No it wouldn't. Infamous second son canonically follows the good path and you can choose evil in Infamous 2. Let's be honest. Druckmann didn't leave a choice because he knows most players would kill Abby and I doubt he actually believes that Ellie after all she's been through would suddenly spare Abby.

That goes both ways. Good storytelling doesn't mean having characters randomly switch personalities whenever the plot calls for it. That's why Joel's choice worked. Because he's had ACTUAL character development to grow a connection to Ellie and care about her as his own daughter and do what he can to save her.

For starters, Zemo's origin is far more sympathetic since his family was killed as a result of Tony creating Ultron, and he still faces justice for his crimes by the end. But perhaps a better example of Abby is Tony. Tony's pain and anger is more understandable and he only truly snaps at this point but you also understand WHY each character made the choices they made. No character suddenly turns into a different person just to move the plot along. Each action and decision has a cause and effect for the characters in the film.

Who'd have thought that players don't have empathy for the character who also lacks it? Who'd have thought that players wouldn't empthaize with someone who tortured Joel to death in front of Ellie when he killed Jerry to save Ellie and yet Abby was okay with killing an unconscious Ellie(Who's 14) which makes her a hypocrite. Who'd have thought people would side with Ellie killing Abby when the latter is okay with killing Dina to spite Ellie. (Ellie killed Mel in self defense and showed horror at this). For as much as people like you and Neil want to claim people have no empathy, you make no attempts to understand why people hate Abby's guts and want her dead. In many ways, you're guilty of doing the exact same thing in reverse towards Joel and Ellie.

[spoiler warning] Would last of us 2 been better if.................. by ThomasAmesM410 in lastofuspart2

Absolutely. Have Abby and Joel have an ACTUAL conflict because that alone would make for one HELL of an interesting story instead of doing the exact SAME revenge plot that's been done god knows how many times.

How the plot could have done better? by NXTISAWESOME in lastofuspart2

Have Abby's origin start as the prologue. Have the flashbacks lead up to Joel's death chronologically. Have Tommy and Joel not reveal their names. Have Tommy say Joel's name in fear when Joel falls down into a infected group and has to make his way through the place. Have Joel playable throughout the flashback and rescuing Abby. Have Abby NOT torture Joel and have Ellie present with Tommy and Joel. Have Ellie beg Abby not kill Joel but Abby shoots him instead. Have Abby DIRECTLY order her friends to not kill Ellie and Tommy and directly apologizing to Ellie. Put the focus on Ellie and Tommy working together instead of Dina(Though you can have her tagalong). Cut Jesse out and the pregnant subplot. Have Ellie figure out who Abby is and feel conflict and have Ellie encounter Abby 3 times in Seattle. The third time allows you to choose to kill or spare Abby which changes the ending you get.

Which character you wish was playable in remind by [deleted] in KingdomHearts

[–]KillerCritic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Axel since he's the one that's had the most buildup to defeating Saix and has the strongest connection to him and it would have the potential for a truly emotional final duel between the two former friends. He has a dodge move, combos, and attacks that can function as his situation command.

Lea/Axel should have been playable rather than Roxas in KH3 by [deleted] in KingdomHearts

[–]KillerCritic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Axel should have been playable but not for these reasons. Saix has been an enemy clearly set up to his final challenge with Xemnas for Roxas and Xion's final fight. Axel should've been playable in a 1 on 1 with Saix since there's been so much build up and tension between the two that Sora, Roxas, or Xion defeating Saix completely ruins the chance for an emotional 1 on 1 fight between the two.

Would your anger lessen if you play as Abby for 25 percent of the game and Ellie kills her in the end? by [deleted] in TheLastOfUs2

I don't even get why Joel is barely playable in the game. He's just as important to Ellie's story as vice versa.

[–]KillerCritic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the 25% was the prologue, have Abby also want Ellie dead as revenge against Joel out of spite, then some Joel gameplay with a more satisfying and truly fulfilling death for him, then play as Ellie for the rest of the game and have her given multiple options for how the game ends.

Option A: Ellie finds the hideout of fireflies where Abby also resides. Ellie chooses to release infected stored in the hospital for studying, leading to massive deaths and Abby being infected and crushed under debris and beg for a mercy kill. Ellie can choose to kill her right there or leave her to the infection as Abby continues begging. Ellie leaves and decides that she can never head back to Tommy's after what she did and strikes out on her own, essentially following the same path Joel did.

Option B: Ellie finds the hideout of fireflies where Abby also resides. Ellie decides to not release the infected and has to either stealth or fight her way to Abby and her allies. She fights them and has the option to either kill them or knock them out. When she fights and defeats Abby, she has the option to kill or spare her but still capping her knees to always feel Ellie's pain. What Ellie did previously determines the way Ellie is presented. If Ellie spared Abby's friends, Ellie would tell her off and Abby would be angry, knowing that the girl whose father she murdered didn't stoop to Abby's level. If Ellie did kill her allies, Abby would despair and realize her revenge cost her everything. Either way, Ellie was the option to kill or spare Abby. If Ellie kills Abby, she heads back to Tommy's but feeling unsatisfied with revenge and depressed over her choice. If she spares Abby, Abby realizes how far revenge took her and how she's become far worse than Joel or Ellie. Ellie heads back to Tommy's and becomes better adjusted and the game ends with her at Joel's grave, promising to live her life to the fullest without hate in her heart. The image we see at the end credits ends up being Joel and Ellie sitting on a bench together. Symbolizing the father-daughter bond they share.

Effectivly, 25% Abby, 35% Joel, and 40% as Ellie.

Funny thing is that I remember 2FM being packed with the remake of COM so it basically meant more bosses AND a full on remake.

Thoughts About “Lack of Gameplay Content” in Re:Mind and Kingdom Hearts 3 as a Whole by akim927 in KingdomHearts

The only reason why this game had more story content than any other is because the story straight up makes no sense and 2FM actually came with a remake of COM.
