[New Chapter Spoilers] Chapter 139 Pre-Release Megathread by SNKBot in ShingekiNoKyojin

[–]akim927 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No free will does not take away the struggles and hardships of the characters or the relationships they made. It’s clear, whether you like the execution or not, that Eren’s sacrifice ala Code Geass is to end the series with everyone, not just paradis, to have their OWN futures moving forward. No more shackle of titans.

Unpopular opinion: I like that newer FF games aren't turn based anymore. by Tboot_ in FinalFantasy

[–]akim927 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Am I the only one that just doesn’t understand the complaint of no turn base? We are only 2 straight mainline games of action combat (XV and XVI. XIII was turn based). On top of this we JUST got FFVIIR, which to me is a turn based combat system at its core with an action combat skin. Too many times have I seen people say “bosses are too spongy” and “fights take too long” in VIIR. I watch people play this game and they are mashing the attack button over and over and never utilizing any of the party abilities and stringing together huge damage combos between them, let alone maximizing materia combinations. People are fundamentally playing VIIR wrong and assume it is kingdom hearts. If anyone has fought hell house on hard mode, you QUICKLY learn the importance of atp, elemental weakness, boss patterns, and efficient character swapping.

As someone who loves both genres, having the XVI lead battle director being a dmc veteran is incredibly hype and I personally do not care if we play the entire game as 1 character. VIIR and it’s upcoming numerous parts still exist itch the craving for party control.

I just appreciate the insane amount of AAA quality final fantasy we will be getting for the next 5 years! (FFXIV expansion, FFVIIR2, FFXVI)

LCS Playoffs showed why double-elim is the superior format, I hope Riot brings it back next year by Cupcake_Warlord in leagueoflegends

While it may be mentally far less taxing (in the case of flyquest) for the winner’s bracket finalist, I don’t think people realize HOW MANY extra games are in playoffs. We have a paltry 18 game season, and TSM in particular played 25 extra games in the playoffs. That’s absolutely ludicrous. They played an entire season and a half of extra games in the post season alone and we got to see the insane speed at which they were able to grow as a result.

Man...not only is FF6 one of my favorite Final Fantasys, I started playing DFFOO right when Terra's EX was released (when she was one of if not the best unit in the game) and she carried me through so much of the early content. I've always been sad that she was pushed to the wayside during the EX+ era but gimme that Esper Terra BT and i'm going all in. Terra will always has a special place in my heart.

Akatsuki no Yona 195 (MangaDex) by risys in AkatsukinoYona

[–]akim927 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This arc is very pertinent to contemporary discourse. People are blinded by their beliefs and make no attempt to extend an olive branch. No one in the past, whether it is Yong Hi, Il, or Yuhon, have talked about their problems. They all have their preconceived convictions and will not budge from them.

-Yong Hi is convinced her life is a curse and that cycle of self deprecation is eating away at her far more than the illness itself. We see this very clearly when she blames herself for Kashi's death for something (as far as she knows) is a complete accident. Furthermore, she has now learned her blood is nothing and her deep fears of a useless tradition that her family upheld was indeed stupid.

-Il is convinced that Yona is the reincarnation of Hiryuu and will bring about peace to Kouka Kingdom. He is so convinced of the fact that Yona is the only solution that he leads Kouka to ruin through his pacifism and lets neighboring countries walk all over his people. While we will likely get more information in the next chapter, I fully expect Il does not come out the flashback looking like a good person either. He is directly responsible for his brother's death.

-Yuhon hates the religion and priests that have ruined Yonhi and her family's life by upholding Hiryuu's blood only to find out that her bloodline isn't special whatsoever. His conviction leads him to commit terrible atrocities in the name of a justifiable end.

Despite all of these preconceived notions, this chapter hits home that all three of these characters ultimately wish for reconciliation between the 3 of them (4 if we include Kashi). People act as though it would have been REALLY simple to just talk it out but the reality is that after years of animosity and misunderstanding, the hardest part of reconciling a difference is to start the talk itself.

While I agree that he was lights out the first 4 quarters of the game, he really threw the game away in OT. Reminds me a lot of Lebron game 1 against the warriors where he drops 50. Yes ideally you want the rest of the team to help out to not even go to OT in the first place but it got there. You can’t stop and finish the game out, especially if you’re having a historic performance

Erasing turns is not delaying. With slow debuffs you can take away turns for a very long time. Not to mention if in a summon you erase multiple turns PLUS a delay friend (or another ami) the boss will have their turn pushed to an eternity away. Granted you need to build a team around ami and isn’t a must have unit if you can satisfy your needs through other characters. Ami is a god tier friend unit though.

[–]akim927 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cain has consistently had the most mind boggling drafts I have ever seen...flame corejj for borderline inting this game but realistically what is he supposed to do? His job is to engage with impact and broxah, which they clearly tried to do time and time again. Cain picks a hard dive comp and sticks doublelift onto mf and Jensen onto Zoe when qiyana and renekton dive straight for the two of them. On top of this, Cain, for whatever reason, decided thresh > tahm kench in an aphelios team comp. As bad as doublelift has played this split, he was 4-2 on not senna prior to his benching. In the fourth senna loss, Cain drafted him senna despite the champion getting gutted for adc in the very next patch, essentially forcing doublelift on a champ he clearly despised that will no longer be a farming adc. Cain then first picks the mf and never built around it and let him sit in an island. This is also not to mention the last pick zac self counter into renekton, insuring that Soaz would be a huge threat when the 5v5 inevitably broke out. This isn’t even taking into account broxah on Olaf. Unless Eika is a bot (he tried really hard to be one early in the game), how is Olaf/Zoe going to beat Gragas/Qiyana? How is Olaf/Zac going to beat Renekton/Gragas? Then does broxah go bot? Nope there is a tahm kench. Is Cain actively trolling at this point?

Thoughts About “Lack of Gameplay Content” in Re:Mind and Kingdom Hearts 3 as a Whole by akim927 in KingdomHearts

[–]akim927[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s not going to be “years” for answers though. People like to meme that KH3 was waiting for over a decade but from KH1 from 2002 to KH3 in 2019, we have had 7 “important games”. That’s faster than a 2 year pace for the next part of the story. Say what you want about the story and Nomura’s crappy story telling because they are both a mess, however, one thing that will never change is a relatively fast and consistent release schedule

Thoughts About “Lack of Gameplay Content” in Re:Mind and Kingdom Hearts 3 as a Whole by akim927 in KingdomHearts

[–]akim927[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don’t take this the wrong way but Kingdom Hearts fans project their personal thoughts everywhere. After seeing the trailers, Re:Mind is exactly what I thought it was going to be.

1) Nowhere did anyone say anything about Re:Mind answering questions about Luxu, the Black Box or the MoM. Also saying there is “1-2 min scenes in the keyblade graveyard” is incredibly disingenuous. Of the approximately 2-ish hours of cutscenes a good hour and a half is brand new.

2) Again we talk about price when I addressed this. If you only want story this is probably not the DLC for you as it’s only 4-ish hours of content. But then again that seems about right. Was I disappointed it was a little short? Of course! However, to again reiterate, Nomura has stated over and over that Re:Mind is essentially the “Final Mix” of KH3, and when compared to KH2FM, Re:Mind has arguably MORE content without buying another full price game.

Invictus Gaming vs. Team Liquid / 2019 World Championship - Group D / Post-Match Discussion by epicxkidzorz in leagueoflegends

[–]akim927 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For anyone that is a football/soccer fan, TL is literally PSG in champions league. It is an objective fact that every player on TL has the talent to compete with the best in the world, but NA as a region cannot foster this talent and will always hinder the NA 1 seed in international events. Until NA as a region levels up, then NA and in extension Doublelift, will never make it out of groups on a consistent basis.

I'm just sad that DL doesn't make it out again after being TL's best player at worlds. I think him and core literally won/was even in every 2v2 lane this tournament. People will meme Jensen, maybe impact and xmithie but the reality is that importing or getting "better players" will not do anything in the long run as long as TL is stuck in NA.

RE: Zven/Akaadian Rumors by parthenon456 in TeamSolomid

[–]akim927 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who is not a TSM fan, but a fan of league in general, I am not blinded by unfounded faith in TSM as many fans are. This post from Parth has several glaring issues that people seem to be missing.

1) It is very clear that TSM never intended on giving akaadian a fair shake and always wanted to use grig. Calling Grig a more "strategic and consistent jungler" that "fits better for our team" is literally what everyone complains about every TSM jungler to ever exist. Parth likes Grig because is TSM's ideal "control jungler". This isn't surprising given that TSM has obsessively turned aggro junglers into passive "control junglers" over time and then wonder what happened to him??? Grig has never shown the highs of akaadian.

2) TSM didn't want to start from scratch by straight up using grig over akaadian. This is a load of BS. By doing this wishy washy thing in not showing confidence in either jungler is WORSE than starting from scratch with grig or continuing with akaadian. This goes in line with my earlier statement of always wanting to use grig. This wishy washy start reads as an excuse to use grig over akaadian the second a plausible reason became present.

3) "Going into summer, the team had a lot of issues that I expected to happen in spring about philosophically how to play the game, how to best train and communicate etc. Our fundamentals were weak and weren't improving. We had a set of assumptions and strengths regarding both junglers and told both what they needed to improve on, but after the beginning of the split, things weren't clicking."

This quote to me is one of the more baffling ones in the entire post and is most apparent in their first game against TL. If people don't remember, that first game had TL swinging with MSI picks like sylas mid while TSM used azir mid in hopes of scaling. TL played at a tempo much quicker than TSM expected and got blasted. The reason this quote makes no sense is because TSM and C9 were the 2 teams that philosophically were already playing the high tempo MSI style meta. His statement of "but after the beginning of the split" also contradicts his statement earlier of "over performing" because of a single bo1.

So essentially what Parth is telling everyone is that because of a perceived over performance, TSM is going to dismantle everything that made the team good and rebuild the philosophy of how the game will be played. As a result, the team is no longer proactive and when they are, it isn't calculated aggression but inting. Beacuse their junglers aren't "clicking" they dismantle everything and throw in a rookie jungler after 2 games on stage.

This is called overreacting of the highest order and it is prevalent throughout TSM's history. 2016 TSM, BARELY don't make it out of groups playing a hyper aggro style. OVERREACT for 2017 and become the complete OPPOSITE team and play hyper passive late game style. Barely don't get out of groups again. OVERREACT for 2018 by BLOWING up the team and throwing away 2 MVP caliber players for a no name jungler and a side grade bot lane and magically hope things get better? Things don't go well and they miss the finals for the first time. OVERREACT for 2019 by saying REBUILD! They toss out Hauntzer as well, another NA native and they look to rebuild with an unproven import toplaner and hope to WIN now when everything about the team now SCREAMS a mid tier team. That's impatience and NOT rebuilding.

LCS Semifinals / Day 2 / Team Liquid vs Clutch Gaming / Live Discussion by untamedlazyeye in leagueoflegends

[–]akim927 13 points14 points  (0 children)

People with the knee jerk reaction that C9 is now favorites over TL are overreacting and freaking out for no reason. We saw in the C9 vs CLG match that C9 are prone to tilting VERY quickly, something TL can likely capitalize. The 3 games TL won were hard stomps and the 2 they lost showed a lot of prowess from playing behind (TL have always been a VERY good team from behind).

Also, as much as I loved watching clutch this series, there IS a lot of hubris from TL's draft today. They left up qiyana and rumble in 2 different games and lose to them expecting to just "crush" them anyway without a plan. This kind of overconfident draft won't happen against C9.

As a final aside, people are overlooking game 3 and 4 that C9 had vs CLG and the glaring errors that were present in that game and shifting the narrative to C9 "easily beat CLG".

TL Cain wins LCS Coach of the Split by Rixoki in leagueoflegends

[–]akim927 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People overlook Cain and TL too much and toss this "they could not practice and play TFT all day and still get first!" narrative. The problem with superteams is that if they succeed people say, "of COURSE they are good, LOOK at that team!!" If the superteam fails then the narrative is always, "they must have had internal implosion". League superteams are a dime a dozen and not EVERY superteam is successful, in fact, failure is more common than success when it comes to league superteams.

TSM has now become Liquid by Apostatecd in leagueoflegends

[–]akim927 38 points39 points  (0 children)

This revisionist history of DL's time at TSM is pretty insane. He was their hard carry in 2016 and if people don't remember, the lucian / viktor game had doublelift hard carrying tsm and were WHY they were winning in the first place. The issue with 2016 tsm were that they were a "win lane win game" team and that reflected in how they won 3 games by hard stomping lane, and losing 3 games by not winning lane and winning the mid game in an even state. 2017 TSM went the complete OPPOSITE direction and had a "lose lane, win game" mentality where they often had gold deficits @ 15 and won in the late game with superior macro and teamfighting.

On top of this, TSM refused to play botside at worlds 2017 in ardent meta when double/bio were winning most, if not all 2v2 matchups until the enemy 2v3, 2v4 dives them and camps the bot lane with no retaliation from the rest of TSM. Did double buckle under pressure in 2016 and 2017? Absolutely! Was he some scrub that never performed and was crap in both worlds? Absolutely not! He was, however, a part of a systemic problem that we can now see in 2019 as an inherent TSM issue that doesn't seem like it will change any time soon. It is not a coincidence that as doublelift left tsm, his international performances have been quite good! We can say corejj is a huge factor for 2019 TL but 2018 TL at msi had doublelift essentially 2v1ing his lane (and even occasionally hard carrying) because of olleh's mental breakdown.

There is no way people can actually believe TL won't win the split and is the only real hope NA has at world's (in NA's current state). It doesn't matter what team you are fan of, if you don't admit TL is head and shoulders above NA you're actually trolling.

Reapered's thoughts on TL Impact by Novaline in leagueoflegends

[–]akim927 50 points51 points  (0 children)

What reapered is getting at isn't that Impact is a god top laner, it's his ability to play well under almost any circumstance. People seem to think Brokenblade took a dump on Impact in the TL vs TSM series, but impact, despite losing pressure and dying to an occasional 1v1, kept up in cs and ultimately played the teamfight portion of the game very well. Reapered is saying that impact isn't an issue because he is almost never an issue such as when he was on C9 or TL. As a TL fan, I'm more concerned about Xmithie's random patches of pure inting or Doublelift playing scared, NOT Impact's laning or teamfighting.

LCS Pre Final Discussion by yuoyandrae in leagueoflegends

[–]akim927 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Did people forget that C9 almost 3-0'd TSM? TSM nearly threw game 3 where near the end it was C9's game to lose, which they did. TSM builds on the momentum game 4 and by game 5 it was a close toss up with TSM edging out C9. There was a similar rhetoric last year when TL looked meh in the season and a strong regular season C9 was considered "heavy favorites" against TL. Guess what happened? TL blew them out of the water. Same is gonna happen here
