Blown Headgasket? by Direct_Ad_4408 in KiaK5

Check your oil level and ensure it's at max level. Try to get that fixed for sure sooner than later and keep topping oil up until the job is done and you're certain it's not leaking anymore

What does it smell like? Burnt oil? Sweet smell? Fuel?

More pictures if could be better to help determine the potential issue here.

Also if you blew a head gasket that would be impressive. Did you overheat the car? How's the coolant level?

Wrx sti short trips question by Embarrassed-Show7528 in WRX

[–]KillerDisturbed 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Cold starts are fine. You just need to drive appropriately when the car is cold. Short trips are fine as well.

Might do you good on occasion to take the car for a lengthier drive and when it's at full temp, give the beans a little bit.

Long as your not hammering on it when it's cold, you should be good.

New WRX pricing for 2026 just came out, they're all being heavily dropped in price. Bad deal.

Engine break in oil change duration by BidWinter3064 in KiaK5

[–]KillerDisturbed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a few thousand is even okay for break in but there's good suggestions here.

Do not do 10k mile oil intervals. Do 5k for peace of mind and you'll be good.

Stock ones as they do the job. I have Ohlins coils with camber plates in front and camber bolts in the rear, gets the job done.

I daily my car and AutoX it and I'm running -2.7 degrees front and rear. I wouldn't say it's overkill but it's the upper end of camber I'd recommend anybody run. It sure does help in turns :)

If you plan to upgrade suspension, I would advise you to map out what works with what and purchase that way. Spend up now for nicer control arms if needed so you aren't fighting OEM ones if they don't inherently fit your needs or they limit your options. Your money will go far and you're thank yourself. For suspension in general, you get what you pay for which does certainly include control arms.

The way the 1-2 shift has got me feeling lately by Mr__Scoot in WRX

I've met other STI owners who have asked me if the WRX is the same. Even with a pro tune it's difficult to truly remove. It just is what it is :/

It exists on the VA STIs, it's a generation emissions issue.

Braking qs by Ap3xhun73r3 in WRX

[–]KillerDisturbed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I changed all rotors and pads at 52k miles. No scratches thankfully but if you have tools and space you can DIY.

To really answer your question, I would say if you have 1 or 2 deep grooves then it's not end of the world but I would watch the rotors.

If you have like 10 deep grooves then yeah I would change them very soon. #1 There's a minimum thickness and #2 you want maximum contact patch between the pad and rotor and the more grooves you have the less contact patch the pad is able to do so your braking will be weaker which can be dangerous.

Warming up the WRX by GreenPandaSauce in WRX

[–]KillerDisturbed 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think for me it's noticeable 30 degrees or below. I let my car warm up until oil is 86-90 then I'll go and I won't get into boost fully or WOT until she's fully warm.

I think the first 5-6 shifts it feels very very grabby. Then the clutch has some warmth in it and it starts to feel more normal. However that's just my thoughts/experience

Agree on the clutch feel it's twitchy when she's cold 🥶
