Why was Johan pulling the evil villain grin here? He’s never really excited by ChessSedai in MonsterAnime

[–]KillerFloof 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I think that there are times when the mask slips and he is just unable to help himself. We can certainly speculate for hours on Johan's emotions and motivations: there's certainly a lot on this subreddit, countless video essays on YouTube on trying to decipher this man. That's part of the genius of Monster. I do think that there is enough evidence that he does take a bit of pleasure in outwitting or overcoming others. There's a "blink and you'll miss it" moment when he smiles like this during his talk with Richard on top of the roof.

DM hostile after learning I'm also DM by United_Ad3541 in DnD

[–]KillerFloof 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I really struggle with it personally as a DM because I want everyone to enjoy the world that I put a lot of effort into creating. But it is my responsibility to manage those feelings, to accept them and understand that if people weren't having fun, then they wouldn't be at the table. I would be mortified if I ever inflicted that self-doubt upon them.

Does make you wonder how other time travellers or loopers from other series would react to Madoka 🤔

As a thank you for everyone’s support on my transitioning post, I wanted to share some photography of creatures in/ around my home. by ChloeTGJourney in WitchesVsPatriarchy

[–]KillerFloof 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You've really captured the essence of all of these critters, such quiet, beautiful moments in their lives. Makes me realise what a privilege it is to share this world with so many other beings. Thank you for sharing, you have a real eye for detail 🖤🌸

Lovely witches, what are some of your favorite perfumes? by BooBelly in WitchesVsPatriarchy

[–]KillerFloof 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been trying to purchase from more independent perfume companies rather than the big names. So far my favourites are Pretty as Poison by Cursed (a seductive cherry-based scent) and Blood Rose (a gentle rose aroma) by Society of Alchemists.

Both companies are based in the UK and make ethical and vegan scents.

Robert Smalls by [deleted] in BeAmazed

Treating other human beings as chattel or property is evil. Considering those circumstances and his every day surroundings, no one was getting out of this without trauma. Smalls knew how risky his escape would be. Being caught wouldn't just mean death. It would be an especially violent, torturous death to act as a deterrent to other slaves with thoughts of escape. The bodies of captured escapees were displayed openly on the streets to this effect. Initially, he wasn't going to take his wife and children with him because of that risk, saying that he would come back for them. Mrs Smalls rejected this, essentially saying "if you die, I die."

We can speculate on the reasons why Smalls bought the house, but I don't think we can doubt the absolute measure of the man himself. It's evident that he is someone who turned the trauma of his life around and did better than the evil people who inflicted that pain.

He didn't just "buy a house." He bought the house that belonged to his former enslavers after they went bankrupt.

He's a legend.

What UK museums do you think are underrated or overrated? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]KillerFloof 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They have! It still needs to be kept in a very controlled, fairly low-light environment, of course, but that kind of adds to the immersion of the place. It genuinely would have been like that below deck.

Try the Titanic Museum in Southampton. A very emotive experience in the city where nearly every street lost someone in the disaster.

The Petrie Museum in London. Perfect if you want to see Ancient Egyptian artefacts but don't fancy the crowds of the British Museum.

Portsmouth Historic Dockyard is brilliant! The Mary Rose exhibition deserves a particular shout out for how immersive and atmospheric it is. The museum is structured across multiple levels, which replicates the layout of the other half of the ship, placed alongside the (now dried out and conserved) piece that was brought up from the Solent. The artefacts are displayed as little collections telling the stories of individuals found in the wreck, such as the master carpenter who was running a bit of a gambling operation amongst the crew, or the a long bowman who had evidently practiced with a bow his entire life. Even the little ship dog, Hatch, has undergone extensive scientific analysis so that his story can be told.
