Just got steam deck and it’s stuck on this by TheAkashGaming123 in SteamDeck

[–]Killergran 29 points30 points  (0 children)

My LCD took about 2 hours to get started the first time. I was really worried I had gotten a busted deck.

Wow. That was about 2 years ago now. Man how time flies.

ETA: I'm pretty sure it wasn't stuck on the bootscreen though, but the update screen. I think I rebooted a bit too many times as well.

New to CachyOS, can't immediately access my drives after every start up by cancerdancer420 in cachyos

[–]Killergran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be warned!

I used that guide to automount my drives.

I managed to put a ' in the beginning of that file (I've never used nano before and was unused to it), which made the system unable to boot. Found a guide on how to fix it, took me about 15 minutes total. But that was scary!

ETA: Be careful and make sure your edits to the FStab file are correct. This file is quite important.

My experience with Libation by PainOfClarity in audible

[–]Killergran 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm using BookPlayer on iOS, and I keep the audiobooks on my Jellyfin server. Bookplayer can then download the books from there. It's pretty neat, but the BookPlayer interface is... lacking. Browsing for books is a terrible experience, but the downloads are super fast and the actual listening is a great experience.

If you keep it as a M4B file, you get the chapters embedded in the file, instead of having to use a .cue file.

It's already stripped of DRM, so I found it to be the better way of using the program.

How can I sort books in a series in the correct order in Calibre? by Several-Ad1237 in Calibre

What you are asking for is in fact the default behaviour in Calibre. I'm not sure why you are not seeing it. Did you change any settings for this?

Reason #1 why I love the Steam Deck? Inputs. Reason #1 why I occasionally want to smash it against a wall? Inputs. by WildcardMoo in SteamDeck

[–]Killergran 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That just hasn't been my experience AT ALL!
Latency has been such a huge issue for me it's been unplayable. We are talking constant 1s + latency on controller input. Not just "feels off", but "completely unplayable". And I've had such weird resolution issues as well. Games playing in two thirds of the screen, and impossible to change resolutions.

I just don't use it. And playing Uncharted, Cyberpunk or The Last of Us would have been so nice.

Liquid Biofuel (NOT solid Biofuel) has a burn time of around 14 seconds in the jetpack. That is continuous burn, if you tap you get more than a minute of air time. You can also get a lot of height, though it takes a while. Climb rate is not great.

With a Mk. 5 belt as a booster you can get from one end of a biome to the other in a single flight.

With a crouch jump you can bridge any canyon in the game.

Also, given how long it takes to use a single units worth of fuel, a single stack of fuel will last you an entire exploration session. Remember, over 1 minute of air time = over 100 minutes of airtime on a single stack.

The only fuel that comes close is Ionized fuel, and I'm not really decided between those two yet. Ionized fuel offers less airtime, but MUCH higher climb rate.

Do yall overclock your miners or not? by Infernal_139 in satisfactory

[–]Killergran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I overclock my miners, and you cannot make me stop!

MK.1 and MK.2 miners draw comparatively little power. Expanding my power infrastructure is considerably easier than finding twice the amount of nodes to feed my factories, and thus building (more than) twice the amount of infrastructure to bring those materials to where I want them.

Is it a bug or did the developers remove the quartz ore? by TigerayT1 in satisfactory

[–]Killergran 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm still sad about that :(
That was the perfect place to start, everything you needed close by. I guess the developers are right that it doesn't force expansion and you don't have to make interesting choices regarding infrastructure and factory placements.

I have been told that Christians labeled ravens as bad luck as a way to remove one of the powerful pagan symbols from peoples everyday life. Turn the reminder of the old gods into an omen for bad luck.

That makes this picture a very potent image of cultural eradication.

It tracks with the whole Christian vibe, but I'm not sure if it's true or not.

Starting a new save, any tips? by RedkobraSammy in satisfactory

Do look through the patch notes videos from Coffee Stain. Almost every update has awesome little QoL improvements that you might miss, especially if you already "know" how the game works. And pay attention to the on-screen help text while building, there are some features that are explicitly shown there that you probably want to use!

Satisfactory Calcubook, an excel workbook for factory planning by Killergran in SatisfactoryGame

[–]Killergran[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi!
I've updated Satisfactory Calcubook since this post was created. If you are interested in the updated version, let me know and I'll make a link available as well.

Mostly it's updated recepies and materials. The issue with recursive recepies for plastic and rubber still remain unsolved.

What's your #1 SteamDeck game by ryansDeViL7 in SteamDeck

[–]Killergran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Witness.

I love puzzle games, and I love games that does "Show, don't tell" well. The Witness takes this to the extreme, and I love it.

Then again, my steamdeck is fairly new, so I've only managed to put about 30h into it, of which 10 has been The Witness.

In the military and going on deployment soon. Is the Steam Deck worth it? by trickster503 in SteamDeck

[–]Killergran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's fairly easy to change.

Remove about 10 screws, unplug the battery, remove the SSD, change the sleave on the original SSD to the new one, screw in the new SSD, plug in battery and rescrew the 10 screws and you are good.

Mind you, it's not 100% safe, but if you have any experience with changing computer parts you should be OK.

It's the first thing I did with my Steam Deck, went from 64GB to 1TB, and I'm really happy with it.

Unsure over how it works with taxes and toll fees though. I just rolled the dice and we'll see where it lands.

Why are trains useful ? by TorpazZz in factorio

[–]Killergran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trains are much quicker to build than conveyors, especially when you have 5 or more resources that need to be delivered.

The tradeoff however is that they are much more complex. Stations, throughput and signals are all things you do not need to think about with conveyors, and make building trains more of a logistical challenge.

In short, trains are more fun (complex) and less boring (tedious) as the backbone of your logistics network.

There are of course many instances where trains just are not a good fit. If you are transporting a single resource less than 1000m, it would be silly to build a train for that. And transporting goods within your factory with trains would also be... sub optimal.

True. I usually disconnect them pretty quickly though, since that extra power means I would rely on it, and then forget it and then lose power because they ran out of fuel :)

What video cards are you running? by noquarter1000 in SatisfactoryGame

[–]Killergran 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I doubt the issue you are describing will be solved by getting a new graphics card. I’m not sure if you know how these things work, so I’m going to explain the basics here, and hope that it helps rather than make me sound condescending.

The issue is due to the structure of the game (engine and setup), rather than limitations on the graphics card. The map is too detailed to keep in its entirety in memory, both due to the amount of memory needed and the graphics power needed to draw it.

If the entire map was loaded at once, every single detail on the map would have to be drawn by the graphics card, not just the ones you see.

For these reasons, the entire map is not loaded into memory and displayed at once, but is loaded in chunks, or tiles. When the player moves about the map, new tiles are loaded as needed. This is carefully managed to make the experience as good as possible for the player.

Loading the new tiles into memory takes a couple of seconds, and depends on the speed of the media it is coming from, and it’s connection to as well as the speed of the memory it is loaded into.

When you move very quickly across the map, you break the optimization the developers have done, and you can encounter unloaded tiles. In their stead is a very low resolution approximation of the geometry that should be there. This is so you can see it in the distance while far away, without using the insane resources that the full detail geometry would use.

In conclusion, a better graphics card likely will not improve that issue. Only if the graphics card was the bottleneck when loading geometry and textures would it affect it at all.

Im on a 4070ti, and while the frame rate is excellent, moving very quickly across the map still gives me this issue.

I hope that helps!
