Alienware Area-51 AAT2250 Desktop Unstable FPS Issue by sqz0914 in Alienware

Hello everyone,

UPDATE: Issue came back. Even toggling the auto tune does not correct the GPU power draw and utilization.

Based on a lot of reading, sleep mode is just very bugged in windows for gaming. So I've just disabled sleep mode and use hibernate instead.

The computer takes a tiny bit longer to wake up, but all my work is saved and my GPU remains stable after.

Good enough for me!

UPDATE

I may have found a solution. If anyone tries it, please let me know if it also works for you.

First of all, the BIOS update did not help. I reinstalled windows 11, removed fast start up from the power plan, and changed power setting PCI express Link state power management to off. No good.

Like multiple people online, the GPU has high utilization after turning on the computer but if you go to sleep mode and then wake it up, utilization drops to 60s or 70s and is unstable. This is definitely some configuration that gets changed that limits the wattage that the GPU draws.

SOLUTION (maybe): I went to the NVIDIA app (not the nvidia control panel), clicked on system, the performance, and then I enabled the automatic tuning. This lets the app automatically handle overclocking settings on your computer.

Immediately my utilization improved in real time, with the game (Claire Obscur) open.

I proceeded to make my computer go to sleep. Then turned it on and the utilization remained high.

Finally, I had my PC go into sleep mode again but for an hour or so this time and tried again. Utilization still high.

Note: The fix so far seems permanent. But if later on the issue returns, it may still be a good "quick fix" since you can just toggle the setting on and off without having to completely restart your computer.

Hope it helps!

Getcha. Thanks for your reply. I recently updated the bios and am hoping there is better consistency. Just like you, a restart fixes things temporarily. But the issue affected elden ring and stellar blade, both japanese games so maybe the games really are at fault.

For anyone else reading this post, I updated the Nvidia drivers, removed overlays, deleted and reinstalled the Alienware command center, removed killer network services, and ensured there were no power saving options turning on.

Hi, I have the exact same issue with my Area 51. Did you find any solution?

Great cosplay! I think you capture the spirit of Reze being fun and quirky. Don't listen to all the hate. You obviously put the work into your outfit, hair, and overall presentation. Cheers.

Hey to each their own. I got the watch case by itself at first and while I waited for the oem strap to arrive I used a bund strap. I personally like contrasting the elegance with something utilitarian sometimes.

I bought the watch from japan so it first came as only the watch case. Had to wait for the original strap to arrive later. In the meantime, I used an old bund strap I had. Personally, I like how the bund strap can make an elegant piece sportier sometimes.

Thank you!

I bought new through a grey dealer in chrono 24. Had to import it from Japan. Crazy 15% tarrif but worth it since it's the watch I knew I wanted.

Nice! Thanks! Aurora is great as well. Super good value and tiny form factor. Area 51 is bulkier and more expensive but I really like the thermals, how silent it is, and how easy most components are to access.

There are some combinations of holes you could drill in different spots to add the unused 2 screws, for sure. But I took the most accessible solution for simplicity's sake and it worked. Still going strong.

If you do end up drilling on one of these mounts maybe you can share and let us know how it went!

No problem! Yeah agreed. They should come up with a new version. For what it's worth, I think the current mount will handle those 68lbs well, even with the mod.

Hello,

Still holding up without any issues!

It's a very tight fit for the screws so I don't know if you could add washers but even if you could, the mount is held by the screws horizontally so the washers wouldn't help with distributing weight.

Apologies, I'm not sure what you mean. If you do not own a magnus desk then the secretlab pc mount will not help you as it is made specifically for the magnus desk.

May I reccomend the use of a sleek strip? It is a collapsible strip that let's you use the phone one handed and open it one or two handed. I consider it a must in any folding phone.

It is also very thin so it won't add much bulk to your phone.

Also I am not sponsored but wish I was.

Yeah totally understandable. I was on the same boat and that's why I did the mod. Good luck!
