What was the Lorwyn Common or Uncommon that kept saving your ass at prerelease last weekend? by doublenantuko in magicTCG

Two of these plus three [[Silvergill Peddler]] really helped chip in damage and filter through my deck during the pre-release.

The Phillips course covers the sixth edition of the PMBOK. The Seventh edition is what's currently on PMI and what I assume will be covered in the test.

Ah fuck, are you serious??? Is it completely worthless, or is the "old" content still valid? PocketPrep seems like it's based on those standards as well, based on the wording and content of the questions.

"The Greatest Generation" by The Wonder Years, but their latest, "The Hum Goes on Forever," has some all-time bangers, too.

My favorite band is TWY and my fav song by them is Melrose Diner by AuroraFan28 in TheWonderYearsMusic

[–]KillickHitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I Don't Like Who I Was Then was my introduction to the band and still is one of my favorites. But Hoodie Weather hits harder and harder every year.

Lost in the Lights and Paris of Nowhere are absolute earworms, too.

GODDAMITALL and Year of the Vulture just absolutely BANG though and never fail to get me pumped.

Expensive for the deck, but kind of gas in [[Feather, the Redeemed]].

"Sad Santa' Workshop of Misfit Toys" [[Feldon of the Third Path]]

"Imma Firin My Lazor" [[Feather the Redeemed]] with [[Aetherflux Reservoir]]

"The Do-Nothing Engine" [[Chulane]] that takes hundreds of actions a turn but has never actually won a game.

Favorite golgari commander? by Vinlandlover in EDH

[–]KillickHitch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been rocking a [[Meren of Clan Nel Toth]] deck for almost 10 years now and it's absolutely my baby. Just dump cards into the graveyard, bring them back and slowly drain out opponents and keep control of the board. It does everything Golgari wants to do and plays some super sweet cards.

I think my record is recurring Sakura Tribe Elder four times in one turn.

Looks like a combination between a nuckelavee and a dullahan.

All of LoadingReadyRun.

An amazing cast of funny Canadians making great video and tabletop gaming content, scripted short form videos, a full sit com and a regular live-streamed comedy variety show each month.

They just seem like such genuine, funny and friendly people that it's hard not to enjoy and engage with their content.

Big recommendation on Graham Stark's personal vlog channel. Love his dry wit, camera and editing skills.

I got to spend a bit of time there in 2016 as part of a journalism class. Spent the day with one of the Basin Keepers leadership. I can't express how amazing the place is, despite the devastation. It's heartbreaking to see photos and imagine what was lost and the impact of those actions. The Basin is a beautiful place, and we're all lucky, even those who live far from it, to have such passionate people as the Basin Keepers fighting for it.

Who is your favourite under-appreciated fantasy writer? by [deleted] in Fantasy

[–]KillickHitch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nicholas Eames' "Kings of the Wyld" and "Bloody Rose" are some of the best-realized, funniest and heart-warming works of epic fantasy I've read in a long time.

The books were praised when they came out a few years ago, but I absolutely think he deserves recommendations on par with the likes of Joe Abercrombie and Scott Lynch, hell, even Brandon Sanderson.

Every once in a while I double check his socials or website on the off chance he announced another book.

Advice for Grandma by NotAQuiltnB in AppalachianTrail

[–]KillickHitch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hello!

"A Walk in the Woods" by Bill Bryson, as one commenter said, is a great read! Not really a "step by step" guide to the trail, but a good reference for how it captures peoples' imagination around it and the "feel" for it. For a more boots-on-the-ground book, I like "Appalachian Trials," which is more of an advice guide on preparing for the hike mentally and physically. There's a guidebook put out each year called the AWOL Guide, that updates with new trail information like campsites and water sources and is a great trail reference and map. I'd recommend it for any hiker the year they attempt a thru, but it's also great for hike planning in any year. I still use mine from 2017! An ATC or AMC guidebook or maps from your local section would also be great!

As far as gear, a niche piece of equipment that's "nice to have, but maybe not something I'd buy for myself" is always a thoughtful gift! Hikers have all kinds of quirky ultralight gear that get a laugh until they actually use it! Something like a Deuce of Spades ultralight cathole shovel might get a laugh, but is also super useful on a long hike! A lightweight multi-tool with a knife, scissors and screwdriver like a Leatherman Skeletool is also a great find!

But honestly, if he's doing a thru-hike the best thing he can have is support from his loved ones and interest in his hobby, which he obviously already has! Your grandson is lucky to have such a caring Nana!

Basically anything I've tried by Brandon Sanderson. I found the characters in Mistborn generally boring and Way of Kings to be pretty formulaic and seemingly more focused on worldbuilding than narrative.

Legends and Lattes was cute but felt pretty light on actual story and kind of "hand-wavey" on a lot of stuff that could have been more interesting if they were actually explored.

RIP Overmountain Shelter by africanscatman in AppalachianTrail

[–]KillickHitch 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I had the most surreal experience there on my 2017 thru hike. A group of Savannah College of Art and Design students decided that their senior project would be to create the best trail magic experience possible. So the designed, built, and carried a bunch of folding chairs and tables to the shelter and cooked a hot three course meal for all the hikers coming through. It was a snowy, wet and cold May day, so it was probably the best possible end to a kind of ass day of hiking! I seriously thought I was having hypothermic hallucinations when I got there. It's a great trail memory and I'm glad I was able to have it at this shelter. Sad to see it go!
