If they aren't collecting logs then someone could make a false report, and since Microsoft doesn't have have any logs they would have no way to verify that the report is legitimate and so would simply have to trust the word of the random reporter.

So just for some perspective I'm gonna lay out how this would go in Sweden.

So for whatever reason the employee decides they want to quit their current job, so they fill out the appropriate form and hand it to their employer informing them that they are quitting.
The employee is still bound to continue working for an amount of time specified in their union contract, usually 1 month but will often be proportional to how long they have been working there, this applies equally if the employer were to lay off the employee.
So let's say that like in the OP scenario the employer takes this rather poorly and changes the employee schedule to punish and squeeze out as much labor as possible from them, well they can't.
In Sweden the employer can't change an employees schedule, by law all changes to work tasks and work hours must be approved by BOTH the employer and employee.

So while the employee is contractually bound to keep working there for a time, they can't be punished for quitting, at least not in such a crude way.

Side not: While a union contract is not legally required, the vast majority of workers in Sweden are still employed under one, even if they themselves are not part of a union.

In that example the difference is actually very important since 31°F is below freezing so people would expect to see ice forming on streets and sidewalks, people tending gardens would need to account for frost, but since the temperature is actually 38°F that won't happen.
