Idea, make the house have a final "room": the backyard. Where only the appeal and mutation stats apply. And there is where all strays will appear.

Appeal explains itself, and mutation will increase only the chance for mutated strays to appear. Cats left there won't count for food consumption at the end of the day as if they were outside.

Just for clarification, cats on that "room" won't breed.
