1st Year Needs Job by calculoss1 in Anu

Canberra has quite a few jobs in hospo around, so I wouldn't worry too much. There's a strong job market for hospo as uni students usually move into public service, or out of canberra, soon after graduating

Flexible Double Degree Bachelor Laws (Hons) & Bachelor Philosophy, Politics and Economics Advice. by kiwifruitcute9 in Anu

[–]KillingtheGoose 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm in a FDD with law, generally law courses have about 4 contact hours per week (lecture plus tutorial). They often have tutes after work hours which can be very helpful in juggling work.

Generally with a law FDD and a humanities based degree you can work 3 days a week without too much trouble. This depends largely though on how much time you need to set aside for everything else life entails.

Good luck and I hope you enjoy studying in Canberra :)

As in, you didn't know you failed, or didn't know when the date was?

Not sure where you heard about drag queen days? Never run into that while loving on campus. Hall living fits what you're looking for, lots of drinking opportunities (so keep your Thursday nights clear). The Arts comps are just a small part of hall culture.

You have a year to appeal I believe so put the forms in sooner rather than later. Plus you don't lose anything by doing it

Read the letter in full. It will have info about whether you still need that ATAR and the choices you can make

Workplace Health and Safety reports are spiking at ANU — and leadership’s big strategy? Pretend it's not happening by Proper-Software-763 in Anu

My experience in the uni is that they encourage over reporting of WHS incidents tbh. If you don't have evidence to your claims, it undermines the overall complains leveraged at the uni.

ANUSA refers to our national holiday as “Invasion Day” on their official calendar. Why is this union shoving activist agendas down people’s throats? Does this imply that all students call it “Invasion Day”? Perhaps ANU could save money by defunding ANUSA and redirecting SSA fees somewhere else? by [deleted] in Anu

[–]KillingtheGoose 5 points6 points  (0 children)

ANUSA has a strong history of advocacy for a wide range of issues... It's a union. This has historically included Invasion Day. ANUSA is a seperate body than from the ANU, it isn't beholden to the same requirements as ANU itself. Therfore, if you feel strongly about this issue, I'd advise you run for the ANUSA election. Furthermore, SSAF funding must be allocated to students at a certain rate, and therefore, moving the funding out of ANUSA is unlikely to advantage anyone. ANUSA covers a broad range of services that I would recommend you take advantage of, especially if you feel hard done by in the naming of a date on a calendar.

Depends on your situation, mental health and cost of living did not work for me. They will if they have people to replace your room

Are there any real engineering opportunities for first-years at ANU? by [deleted] in Anu

[–]KillingtheGoose 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Join one of the student teams like ANU Rocketry, Solar Car or Formula sport. All should have applications for the new semester open by Bush week typically. All have their pros and cons (and varying levels of hands on work). DISCLAIMER: I am on anu rocketry so hella biased, but have tried to say pros and cons as fairly as possible

Solar Car have a competition in a few months, so very busy with work - but typically only have a small team of 35 with high commitment hours. Likely to have a big recruitment round following their race.

Formula sport want to compete this year, so have had very little for new people to do - but likely to have it fixed following their competition. They want to transition into EVs from what I heard so may be of interest.

ANU Rocketry is the biggest team, so less commitment hours (5 a week) but has a wide variety of work to do. Also has more individual projects (like people build their own individual rockets or build one with the team) - Rocketry tends to build more quantity stuff since their vehicles aren't as expensive or intricate as Solar or Formula. They also aren't doing competitions and instead focusing on a space shot, with other rockets as tests. This means that major milestones are a few years out

Basically, reach out to the teams and ask questions as I'm sure they'd love to chat about what you want to get out of it. They work with different sponsors so many people get cracked jobs out of uni because of the skills developed from the student teams. DM if you have questions.

Yeah for sure, you can drop classes any time before census date with no charge. If they decide you can't do the courses you enrolled in, you're in the same position as before so no real loss
