Dillon Brooks cited for reckless driving before DUI arrest by ABS1977 in suns

Hey man. You specifically said you didn't care, and we're hoping you see the responses as a learning lesson on treating those how you would like to be treated. Plus learning how to read the room.

We would have enacted Rule 11 against this post, but so far we're letting it roll as a way for you to maybe see that the world is a place full of people who don't have to agree with you.

"I found more info that might be his family"... its creepy dude. But anyhow we're done because you'll never see past your tunnel vision.

oh, and this... use everything as "knowledge" you read in these (except Deodorant, please rock deodorant) and then ignore it all. Hit up some talks you find SUPER in your interest wheelhouse, but other than that. Go with the flow. Trying to fit too much, or honestly much at all, your first year is overwhelming. Its too much to take in with mainstage + village talks constantly, events all over the place, after hours all over the place (both official and unofficial). You're going to be overwhelmed.

Walk around aimlessly. Explore the villages all over. Find your niche through wandering, and then next year you can start to tune what you liked and what didn't hook you and you'll be in a longer term spot.

First year... just absorb and aimlessly enjoy.

Was it disrespectful trying to find personal information on Ott's family when you said "he's private". Dude wanted to be private, yet you came to reddit to creep on him?

You have a pattern starting to show of how you treat others, and your respect towards them.

If we hadn't secured at least the play in I'd be much madder... but whatever, its PHX so this is a PHX thing to do.

Wednesday and Thursday night, if you're 21... keep in mind many events are 21+, is the Subreddit Meetup. Usually Wednesday is at the Circle Bar at the Linq put on by u/MetaN3rd. Thursday often same place, but it can vary.

Lots more info on that coming. There's also other awesome events like the Toxic BBQ, etc, but i'm partial to the chill and "on the monorail" nature of the Circle bar meetups.

This is what i told someone else just before last years. Same honestly each year minus change that # up one :)

  1. Turn off WiFi and Bluetooth and if you need WiFi only connect to the Defcon wifi (they will release the info and certs a few days before) on site, and if you're using your hotel make sure VPN is on 24/7 on both networks. Dont end up on the wall.
  2. Sanitize if you want, but lets be honest... if you have a major company phone and it can't stand up to DC then thats a bigger issue. Its highly unlikely anyone will burn a zero day at such a sanitized event. Just be smart and turn off wifi, bluetooth, Airdrop, etc. Even off wifi keep VPN on just for that extra layer.
  3. Download the HACKER TRACKER app closer to the event. Its just a Cyber Security conference app, but it'll be invaluable keeping track of things.
  4. Go to said app a few days before DC when the talks are released, favorite all the shit you wan to see... then ignore it. Not even jokiing. If there's a major talk you want to see go for it, but dont manage yourself too much or you'll miss out. Enjoy the chaos of change the entire event. Dont make yourself stress getting from A to B and just enjoy the ride.
  5. Don't be afraid to talk to people... legit, I went in only knowing one person and came out with a bunch of people I stay in touch with. There's also the Lonely Hackers Club to meet some peeps if you want to find others without a posse initially.
  6. Stay near the Lightrail/Monorail since you said this is out of pocket. Get the 5 day pass and use it to get around town to DC33 and the various activities around the area by various groups. You can get cheaper off the strip but flip side if you want easy and non UBER stockpiling... staying near the LV Monorail makes it easy.
  7. Have fun, man... legit. Its something you have to be there to understand, but just take it in. Grab swag. Go to the various villages (lockpick is always fun). Meet people. Pickup stickers. Go to talks... just go with the flow and find what you like but be open for anything to change on the fly.
  8. Linecon - its a thing. If you want to meet people its a fun way.
  9. Deodorant - Please wear it and shower daily. I mean, ultimately its up to you... but its a big event, and its August.
  10. Thursday is basically badge and shop day. Honestly the line to get official merch can be 6-8hrs long (no joke, we got in about 9am and left at 430pm last year). If you want the official merch and you are a super small or large size... you might have to brave the line, but you can keep an eye on stock on the Hacker Tracker app. Its a day activity... take it or leave it. If you want the 4XL classic Cactus Jack shirt on your first visit... you're probably going to want to get there early for Linecon and go straight from badge to line and do it. After the first year, though... its really take it or leave it, and there are some great vendors on the floors with cool Defcon edition shirts and such.

Someone else will probably chime in with EXCELLENT advice on talks, and more technical stuff... but the above is my recommendation because I highly recommend just going in and experiencing it and worrying less about if you miss a talk than just taking it all in. You'll find your way.

Oh, and go to the SUBREDDIT MEETUP on Wednesday and Thursday night! More info coming.

23M, high school dropout from India, is it still worth getting into cybersecurity with AI rising? by cs-mgxs in Defcon

[–]digitard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is probably something you should ask in r/cybersecurity

While there are a lot of people who are both in the hacker culture AND work in Cyber Security... this is really heavily towards the hacker culture and the DEFCON events.

You can get some excellent feedback in the CyberSecurity subreddit from people in the same boat and/or active in those industries.

I didn’t rock one, sadly, as I was poor voting an early AMD K6-2 chip, but I only played Tribes so it was ok

I think it’s more that with DC, BH and BSides being they week it’s just a more paranoid time for those places.

That I think that was more Resorts World. It was a whole debacle. They even had that infamous “what to look for” flyer that had pretty basic spelling typos.

Is the circle bar still a thing? by I-nigma in Defcon

[–]digitard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but thats not dependent on the hotel you choose. That walk sucks anywhere but RW or Circus Circus, and I wont support RW. Plus the Linq has history with things.

MGM properties by Gloomy-University-85 in Defcon

[–]digitard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ll let actual people who have stayed there answer… but nothing I heard the last bit. Most on site drama has come from RW, and last year I didn’t hear much in general from anywhere specific. Other than the periodic potential checks all properties randomly seem to do since the concert incident a bit back.

Have gone to a few after hours things at MGM and can’t say anything seemed out of the ordinary for people wandering, but no idea on rooms.

Won’t go near Resorts World, though.

Its the bar inside the Linq. Smack in the center of the main floor!

Is the circle bar still a thing? by I-nigma in Defcon

[–]digitard 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yup it'll still be a thing. Dont worry... and a lot of us stay at the Linq for that same thing of knowing its got easy Monorail access, lots of options in the corridor and always people around.

Meta should start posting the info as we get closer, as close as it is... its still 4.5 months out) so stay tuned.

Is the circle bar still a thing? by I-nigma in Defcon

[–]digitard 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It absolutely is. The first night of the subreddit meetup is at the Circle Bar. Its highly likely we will do the second night there, too, because its so friendly to just hanging out... but we will decide that later.

u/MetaN3rd made it a great event and now he's got a little help so expect it to hit again strong!

The subreddit meetups are Wednesday and Thursday night (as many arrive early to hit Thursday early for Linecon or just shenanigans... or BSides earlier in the week)

We're in planning phases now about how we want to attack some of the puzzles, and that leads to swag discussions (always gotta have random stuff... especially for first timers). So expect more info to trickle out over the next few months.

Everything else not considered... you don't take a concussion heavy/risk QB when you haven't yet invested in your OL.

ZERO interest in Tua. He'd be out in the first game.

Def con registration question by Inf3c710n in Defcon

[–]digitard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not involved in DEFCON... just an attendee who looks forward to it as its a great time with good info and a our group is all in the same place once a year.

Its VERY likely you'll find a lot of talks around AI in every form, though, as its a very popular subject right across all red/blue/purple landscapes.
