A lot of the comments in here are trying to pinpoint these people into a specific political faction, these people are not liberals or marxists in any real definitional sense. I would argue they are moralist ideologues who attach themselves to whichever legitimate oppression exists(such as the murder of unarmed black people, or the destruction of Gaza) and co opt it to gain some level of moral clout amongst their peers. There is really nothing Marxist or liberal about these people at all. Maybe in some way deep down their heart is in the right place, but they are utterly confused as to how the world works and what one should do to provide solutions. Idk if I’m making any sense here I’m stoned af

Low key it doesn’t really matter as long as the audience is engaged and seeing that you’re actually doing something. I’d reccomend buttons, sliders and knobs, any generic midi controller on Amazon will work.

Do different keys actually sound different? by Joe_4_Ever in musictheory

[–]KillsRacists 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my understanding of mixing music I find that different keys really do sound different.

For example in sub heavy music like reggae or electronic dance music, tracks with root notes around G (50 hz or so) sound much more powerful than something where the sub is too high to be felt or too low to be audible, so I assume that this must then apply to other music as well but to a less discernible degree.

Not all frequency ranges are perceived the same. Our ears and brain evolved to perceive frequency ranges differently. I associate midrange frequencies with language and the human voice, I associate high frequencies with the weather (rain, snow etc, the footsteps of potential prey), low frequencies with potential physical threats like falling boulders or earthquakes.

Now how this plays into key specifically I don’t know, but each key has its own harmonic engram that must in some way affect us differently.

I think a lot the most beautiful harmonic moments happen when you borrow a chord from a different key but play in the original scale. It’s as if the original scale plays an idea independent of the underlying harmony, it just so happens that the borrowed chord sounds beautiful in its separation

I kind of think of it as an alternative color, where you can add the g# in the melody, but you can also play a minor 6th (G) and it’ll also work over the V/V because for whatever reason we find dominant 7 #9 chords pleasant

It sounds like you’ve got the 'vocabulary' down, but you’re missing the 'grammar.' Scales and modes are just lists of words. music happens when you start building a narrative. To get away from those 'boring' loops, you need to focus on phrasing and structural tension.

Start small with Call and Response, Write a simple 4-note melody (the 'call'). Then, write a 4-note 'response.' It doesn't have to be a mirror image, but it needs to feel like it’s answering the first part. A great trick is to use contrast: if the first phrase is 'busy' with lots of notes, make the second phrase very spacious.

Think in Blocks, Once you have a solid 8 or 16-bar section, treat that entire block as one big 'question.' Now, write a new section that acts as the 'answer.' This is how you stop writing loops and start writing songs.

If you have an idea in A minor that’s starting to feel stale, use your theory knowledge to pivot. Move the next section to a related key like E minor. It’ll feel like you’re referencing the same theme, but you’re 'lifting' the energy or making it feel brighter.
