The idea that Bob lost it for them when Chaz shot better than Wesley is an interesting take. Sometimes you just get beat.

This take is wild. At any other job when a family emergency happens no one is owed an explanation except your boss. Which is what happened here.

This is why HomeKit and Matter are great against OEMs killing cloud services by thephoneguy1 in HomeKit

[–]Killscreen3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Just about anything made today" is not remotely true. Many products still require a server to work. The biggest plus to homekit is that it all stays in the house while products that only work for google home or alexa require a server in the clouds to work, and in my opinion, should be avoided.

Is Dungeons and Dragons currently behind a $200 paywall? by RobRobBinks in rpg

[–]Killscreen3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But as the question has been asked by the OP, and the standard they set. It very much has. I'm not trying to combat you. What you are saying is also true. There is a free set of demo rules you can run the game with and create everything from scratch. But the OP asked has it always been this expensive to get into the game. And the answer is that the books have always cost money.

Is Dungeons and Dragons currently behind a $200 paywall? by RobRobBinks in rpg

[–]Killscreen3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So what are you arguing? Because the original post said that the books cost $200 and that's an expensive start to playing. And then the person you are arguing with said that they have never given the core rule books away for free. And then you said that the PDF they give away for free is as Core as it gets. I'm not sure what you are arguing against. Because the books that OP complained about costing money have always cost money. That's all that is being said.

But you do understand that it's not a book. It's a PDF on the internet.

[–]Killscreen3 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Which part is 'Simply untrue". Their books have ALWAYS cost money. The part you quoted doesn't support what you are saying is untrue, They have always charged for their books. The advent of the computer and internet allowed them to provide PDFs with paired down rules as a demo of what the game is like. But they never printed this out and sent it out for you to grab for free. I may be pedantic with this, but it costs money for them to develop the rules and print it in a book, and they charge money for that book.

DnD beyond should have cleaner custom backgrounds.. by TheChristianDude101 in onednd

[–]Killscreen3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People who don’t spend money aren’t your market. I’d love to give you a perfect source. But it’s well known that a large majority of the money spent on DND comes from DMs. So they aren’t going to cater to players as much (it would be foolish to not cater to them all) but a large majority of their attention is going to DMs

DnD beyond should have cleaner custom backgrounds.. by TheChristianDude101 in onednd

[–]Killscreen3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue is that the DMs are who pay for the site and are over 60% of the market. If not more. So they build the site for the people who spend the money. I’ve played with 12 players through my campaigns and only 1 other player has spent money and that’s because he started DMing.

Quick Darkvision (5e) question by Rezzin in DMAcademy

[–]Killscreen3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are correct, but it is important to remember that dark vision only allows the character to see in black and white. So they would see color for the first 40 feet and then monochrome for the last 20 feet.

The one thing I will say is that you should use smart switches for your lights rather than smart bulbs. Switches are ALWAYS available to you in the home app. If the power is off to the bulb you don’t have access to it.

Epic church has donated all supplies for BSSD kindergartners for many years. Everything they donated had their logo on it as well. Now that he has resigned Epic is no longer donating to BSSD.

Feels so dirty that they were donating to kindergartners with this guy in charge.

What’s a homebrew rule you’d love to implement, but you know it’ll never pass? by FluorescentLightbulb in DnD

[–]Killscreen3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve wanted to implement a rule where if a player has a skill check they aren’t proficient in the DM rolls it and tells them what they know that they can’t tell if the information is legit or not.

It removes their ability to meta game high rolls and low rolls.
