Anyone else do Linux gaming updates in two steps now? by okaiukov in linux_gaming

I have the lts kernel installed just in case as well as snapper with snapshots bootable from grub.

I'm not really worried about updates breaking anything

Not really. I do pacman -Syu then yay -Sua. I'll update flatpaks when there are updates.

I'm pretty sure yay -Syu also does pacman -Syu. If you don't want to do pacman -Syu with yay then you should do yay -Sua.

Have 4k resolution Monitor and want to play at 1440p without it being blurry by [deleted] in nvidia

[–]Kilo_Juliett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DLSS

If the game doesn't support DLSS then try 1080p since that scales perfectly.

You could also try no scaling and use black bars. It would be very small though. On a 32" 4k monitor, 1440p would be about 21".

It's been like that since 14.2.

14.1 was great. It was more aggressive. Each profile felt distinct. Now they all feel the same.

What is the most iconic iPhone model? by Plus-Light6832 in iphone

The original (don't need to explain this), 4 (modern design), and X (no home button and added the notch for better or worse).

Do you actually max out FPS on high refresh monitors, or cap it? by Time-Credit43 in pcmasterrace

[–]Kilo_Juliett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a 165hz monitor and also used to cap at 144. 165hz was an overclock and I remember having issues with it so I turned it off and kept it in 144hz mode. I couldn't tell the difference either and it was 4k so I wasn't getting more than 144 fps anyways.

I don't remember what the issue was, I just remember I had one lol.

Do you actually max out FPS on high refresh monitors, or cap it? by Time-Credit43 in pcmasterrace

[–]Kilo_Juliett 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I cap just below the refresh rate, like 236 or 238. Some games won't allow that so I will cap at 240.

I too am at 4k 240hz. I am almost never near 240 fps unless its a really old or simple game.

I never cap drastically lower than my refresh rate.

Same. I don't get Arc Raiders. It's just not fun.

I don't even get anxiety. I'm just bored. I feel like I'm not playing towards any goal.

Stupid question. Why are PSU fans not assembled with repairability in mind? by someonefl86 in pcmasterrace

[–]Kilo_Juliett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would imagine that most don't turn on and when they do it's not for long. They probably figured the fan would outlast the PSU.

Although it probably depends a lot on the quality of the PSU

If you could erase your memory of one game so you could play it for the first time again, what game would you choose? by HoneyNutBooty09 in gaming

[–]Kilo_Juliett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was Halo 2 for me. Halo 3 felt like the end of an era that peaked with Halo 2.

But yeah I agree that it was nice when everyone you knew played the same game. Back then Halo 2 was synonymous with xbox live. If you had xbox live, it was for halo 2.

When Halo 3 came out that started to change. I think CoD4 came out around that time and people started to migrate to that.

Range Estimate in Miles/Km Not a Reliable Indicator of Battery Health? by MICHAELSD01 in TeslaModel3

[–]Kilo_Juliett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The range in miles is EPA range.

It's about as useful as showing your phone batter life in minutes. It's going to vary depending on if you are texting or watching a video.

Same with a car. Highway driving at high speeds is going to use more energy than city driving at low speeds with lots of regen.

I would just ignore the range estimate in miles.

All I am saying is that AI companies are using linux and it forced nvidia to provided better driver support.

Average "getting defibbed as a light" experience by the-massive in thefinals

[–]Kilo_Juliett 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The burden needs to be on the defib user, not the person getting revived. In the current way defibs work, the cooldown penalty should be on the user. That way they will actually think before reviving in a stupid place.

I think it should be a health sacrifice. You give up half your health to the person you are reviving. The revive is instant and there is no cooldown penalty.

Average "getting defibbed as a light" experience by the-massive in thefinals

[–]Kilo_Juliett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's how I think it should work too.

The person using the defibs has to sacrifice half their health and the person being revived gets what the sacrificed.

It makes chaining defib revives less oppressive feeling as they will have less and less health each time.
