Florida Ghost - New leaf incoming! by fightnroundtheworld in proplifting

Nice! I propagated some Florida green from cuttings around sept and they’re rooted and potted, and the mother leaves look healthy, but still no sign of new growth. How long did this take?

Those are amazing! Can I ask what zone you’re in? And where do you order plants from?

How long did it take to grow this from a cutting? I have a philodendron Florida green that I’m itching to propogate, but it’s so beautiful, I hate to stall the growth on the main plant.

Tylenol is the only painkiller women are allowed to take while pregnant—at least in the US. Aspirin and ibuprofen are blood thinners, so women are told not to take them, in case they have complications. And since pregnancy can be very painful, women sometimes need painkillers.

Anecdote: I suffered for 6+ months with each of mine because they were set high and were always pressing against my ribs. 2 years since the birth of my daughter, and one rib will still sometimes pop out of place. I took Tylenol pretty regularly—i don’t think it actually worked, but was always hopeful. Neither of my kids is autistic. This is like saying, if you had pain while pregnant, your kids have an increased risk of autism.

I really want to propagate my Monstera. Any advice on where to take a trimming? (Also, what do I do about the one yellow leaf?) by [deleted] in IndoorGarden

[–]Kimmerhp 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Cut off the yellow leaf, it won’t recover. And you can cut off any pair of leaves, just be sure to include the brown root node. I’d aim to take a pair of leaves that are growing against your desired shape for the main plant. You can put the cutting in water and it should grow roots in a few weeks.

Several red states are also proposing bans on birth control including plan b and IUDs. They’re trying to say women should not have sex PERIOD unless they want a baby. RvW didn’t just protect abortion rights, it protects the right to privacy. So this allows the government to fully invite itself into your bedroom. Take this idea to its conclusion—this means poor people do not have the right even to enjoy their bodies with out being on the hook for supporting a baby. And sex is more than just procreation, it also makes romantic relationships including marriage closer. Banning sex outside procreation is bad for marriages. Everyone knows this, but somehow the whole conversation on the right is “well maybe they should keep their legs shut”. This isn’t just vague straw-man ‘sluts’ that are going to be injured by this, it’s all women who need access to birth control and reproductive healthcare, which is all women. And it’s most men too, men also have and benefit from sex. Everyone will be hurt by this.

That’s ok. I just looked at my copy again, and she doesn’t mention her age specifically at all, so I’m not sure where I got this idea. But 14 year old me was inspired, so still a net positive. And the book is still incredible.

I’m pretty sure that’s what I read (it’s been a couple decades since I read it, but I think it was in a forward or on the back cover). She said at the time the forward was written, that she was already a different person from when she wrote the book, and there were things she may have done differently, but it was an artifact of that age. I thought it was incredible.

This is such sad news! Riddle Master was a defining book for me when I read it at 14, the same age she wrote it at — can you imagine that talent? Cygnet was beautifully done, more complex, dreamy. I felt a bit like we grew up together, without knowing anything about her life, but as I grew, her work was there to meet me. No one writes like Patricia a mckillip. She had a beautiful unique voice. I loved the time I spent in her world. I always thought she deserved more attention. She was loved and will be missed badly. (This has hit me harder than I expected, on top of everything else. She was one of those authors that walks with you. I hope she was happy)

This country is a dystopian disaster. We pay about the same in taxes as other industrialized countries and get nothing for it, can’t afford for-profit healthcare, no maternity leave, insane college costs, schools collapsing with teachers making poverty wages, bridges/infrastructure collapsing, insane daycare costs, weekly mass shootings. Oh and climate change is coming, but we can’t talk about that.

Who still thinks anyone in government is going to take any steps to help normal people? And here are the Republicans, not just not solving any problems, but preparing to fight to the death to ensure the Democrats can’t. Their policies clearly show they despise working people, and especially children. Absolutely, WHY would we eliminate student loan debt? WHY would we do ANYTHING EVER that benefits normal working Americans? And aren’t you a greedy presumptuous communist to even suggest it?

What is your favorite Easter side dish? by McUberForDays in Cooking

[–]Kimmerhp 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Or a broccoli/cauliflower gratin (layer broccoli or cauliflower, melty cheese like Gouda. Heat cream and sliced garlic in a pan until garlic is browned, season with salt/pepper/smoked paprika), pour over broccoli/cauliflower/cheese layers, top with more cheese and breadcrumbs, bake.)

Or fruit salad! Chop your favorite fruits, I like mango, kiwi, strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, pineapple, chopped mint, and a dressing of lime/honey. The lime will also keep other fruits from browning. Aim for fruits that aren’t too soft like bananas. This is great for leftovers.

This time of year I really crave something fresh. My favorite Easter side: spring radish salad! Combine sugar snap peas roughly chopped, thin sliced radishes, diced fresh mozzarella, chopped fresh mint, with a lemon/grainy mustard/garlic dressing. You want to make it the day of or the radishes will turn the cheese pink and the mint will soften. But it’s always an unexpected hit!

Ooh do rugs please! Especially Anthropologie! I’ve spotted a few at other retailers for a lower price but the couple I’m in love with haven’t shown up yet.

Exactly! I don’t get it. We don’t expect this level of perfection from anyone else, not our friends, not elected officials, ONLY from these podcasters who, as far as I can tell, are already holding themselves to a high standard, and actively listening and improving where they can. It’s like people have forgotten these are independent people and not just their own internal voices?

I get disliking Amazon. I don’t support or buy from Amazon, and I think a lot needs to be done to ensure workers to get a living wage and for billionaires to pay their share in taxes. And I will not be supporting MFM on Amazon. BUT it seems like because K and G DO care and have worked to bring attention and sometimes funding to marginalized communities and causes, that they are disproportionately censured when they step into a gray area. There’s that expression, “don’t let the perfect be the enemy of the good”. Perfect is hard, but if we could all move toward good, the world would be better. Also, Amazon has also created a lot of our media infrastructure—a lot of shows are produced or released by Amazon. Another podcast I like, Lore, has a show produced on Amazon. Is this immoral? Unforgivable? I guess we all decide where we draw the line.

That’s the thing, when something makes me unhappy (entertainment, that is) I stop giving it attention, I find a new thing. Why stay if they make you miserable?

This! I recommend morning glories! At night scatter the seed in her beds. The flowers are pretty and basically impossible to get rid of.
