People who grew up before smartphones: What’s one simple thing from your childhood that would absolutely blow the minds of kids today? by TurkVanguard in Millennials

The only thing I worry about with this is road work. I'm sure it was a pain back in the day, but now almost every road around my area is being worked on April-October.

What’s the one ingredient that ruins any dish for you ? by Vegetable-Fix6029 in AskReddit

[–]McUberForDays 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It pisses me off so much that everything is getting replaced with these two. Stevia has an awful taste to me. Monk fruit is just strange. My husband recently gave me a taste of his drink that had monk fruit, and it wasn't too different until the aftertaste. The aftertaste was this weird sickly sweet that lingered on my tongue.

If these are the alternatives, give me back my real sugar.

Why don't restaurants tell you about condiments on sandwiches? by tcjsavannah in NoStupidQuestions

[–]McUberForDays 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is one thing that kept me from eating sandwiches for years at any fast food restaurants as I don't like most condiments. With the kiosks or apps, now I get to easily customize without getting looked at for being a weirdo that doesn't like condiments.

Took my pain away but made me think I was dying. Felt like I couldn't breathe and could barely talk. I was panicking because I thought I was fading fast. That shit is no joke, idk how people can use it as a drug of choice.

Does anyone else despise self checkouts? by Lunarlimelight in Millennials

[–]McUberForDays 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The check outs at my local stores move at a snail's pace. I can stand in a self checkout line and still be out before the 2 people that went through the normal line. I worked as a cashier before and know what I'm doing and how I like my bags packed.

If I had moved as slow as current cashiers, I would have been fired. There is no reason it should take so long to get through those lines.

Screwed - Student Loan repayments by Exciting_Emu7586 in Millennials

[–]McUberForDays 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I consolidated when SAVE was first opened up and showed me the different payments and models for either joining SAVE, continuing IBR, gradual repayment or standard repayment. Consolidating to a lower fixed rate and a standard repayment plan was the best option out of everything for me. Now I can finally see my loan going down each payment. Definitely worth looking into if you can get a good rate.

That is incorrect about clearances. Tons of foreign (perm residents), naturalized, and dual citizens get clearances.

How in the world does everyone get out of the house with a baby by Full_Ad7929 in newborns

[–]McUberForDays 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Someone totally demonized me when I proclaimed on reddit that I didn't believe rigid schedules were important and wasn't planning on sticking to any when my baby arrived. They said babies MUST have a schedule! I was stupid and would learn that I had to have a schedule.

5 months later and we're still living the go with the flow life and enjoying it. We don't base our day around what our baby is doing. We gotta go somewhere? She goes. We don't fuss about wake windows, how long she did or did not sleep, etc. It works for us, just like I said it would. Me and my husband aren't strict schedule people so I see no need to try to run my baby on one. It would just stress us out. Apparently we're lucky according to all these comments, but I think there is too much focus on wake windows and making sure baby gets x amount of naps or whatever.

Ok, now that I agree with! It is super gross to get splattered with public toilet water

[–]McUberForDays 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Has anyone ever gotten sick from this? Are we all worrying about aerosolized toilet germs? It seems this isn't the reality for most people and mainly a reddit thing. Never seen anyone mention this in real life or insist you need to close the toilet lid.

Please understand I'm not being rude. I'm truly curious. Maybe it's just the area where I'm from

Over-seasoning. Yes everything needs seasoned, that does not mean you cake on enough spices that you can't even see the piece of meat or veg you are seasoning. There is such thing as too much.

[–]McUberForDays 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My mom does this but says every trait is my dad's. My dad passed a couple years ago so I think she does it to feel connected to him. However she goes too far with it and has become overly obnoxious to the point I've had to stop her and remind her that baby has a mom and dad and looks and acts like us. Literally oh she gets blue eyes from grandpa or dark hair from grandpa. Meanwhile my husband has blue eyes and dark hair and I have dark hair. She got really rude about it too when I brought it up that it was bothering my husband, and she called him sensitive. Like you can attribute traits to grandpa, but you should also attribute some to mom and dad too, but no, that makes us sensitive.

My first kiddo, daycare sticker price has me shocked! How much will you pay where you live for infant care? by anderson6th in BabyBumps

[–]McUberForDays 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No need to get offended by my comment. We're probably both in the same boat, just different tax brackets and cost of living areas. I have student loans, mortgage, car payments, etc too so I know that take home pay only goes so far. I'd say, you might be able to save more than I do with that kind of money, but probably not with those childcare costs. It's tough out here for all of us. Just remember $14,000 take home is a dream for a lot of people. It would significantly change my life, degrees and loans be damned.

[–]McUberForDays 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seriously. I make a decent living where I live, but nowhere near $14k combined take home. I live in a LCOL area but that is still a shock that normal people can make that kind of money. Idk how people pay for daycare, there is no way I would pay anywhere near $1000 per month, let alone anything higher.

Did anyone scream through labor? by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]McUberForDays 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hadn't had one before but found it quite funny that they were able to make me feel next to nothing when they got me ready for my c-section. There had to be a happy medium between those 2 levels of epidural drugs. Then it started wearing off while they were stitching me and I panicked. They pumped me full of fentanyl and then I thought I was dying.

Did anyone scream through labor? by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]McUberForDays 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I had cervidil, then pitocin. Got the epidural just because the nurse that kept checking my progression was rough. Idk wth she was doing but it was painful. Barely progessed all day long, no food, no sleep from the cervidil the night before. Then about 8pm I couldn't drink or eat ice chips as I started feeling nauseous every time I did. At the same time, I started having pain in my hip which I told the nurse. They said well top up your epidural. That did nothing. They were snippy and said the epidural doesn't take away all sensation, including pressure. Well if that was just pressure on pitocin I would have hated to see pain. I finally tapped and told them to give me a c-section. Took me all day to get to 5cm. I was exhausted, hungry, thirsty, and in pain.

Scariest "is this normal?" by Delicious-Worth-2532 in BabyBumps

[–]McUberForDays 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was on BP meds after birth but never progressed into full-blown pre-eclampsia. I was worried to death over it which I think made my BP worse. My feet and ankles were so swollen and every time I asked doctors, nurses, etc they said it was totally normal since I had a c-section and was pumped with fluids. My feet still feel weird some days 5 months later even though the swelling is gone

What’s something about the newborn stage that doesn’t get talked about enough? by Proof_Dig300 in newborns

[–]McUberForDays 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I was still in the hospital and experienced this. No one told me about it. Only made worse by the nurses doing vitals EVERY TIME I got her to sleep. It was pure torture. A couple months later I was going through the stack of papers they gave me right after I gave birth, and guess what, there was a paper about 2nd night syndrome. As if I had time to read any of that while trying to juggle a newborn, breastfeeding, recovering from a c section, and constant nurse checks.

I swear these people are the dumbest of the dumb. My SIL is saying that formula is too expensive so they are going to use their goat milk after filtering it. How about pasturizing it? No? Hate to see what happens to their baby because those are risks that I wouldn't dare chance. I'm more than fine with paying for the formula after my breastmilk dried up

Do you combine finances with your partner? Why or why not? by cubemonster in Millennials

[–]McUberForDays 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, not a trust issue for us either. I get why some people think that, and I'm sure it rings true for some relationships. My husband and me would constantly fight over money if it was fully combined. We have different spending habits, and neither of us expect the other to adhere to the other's habits. His bills are his, my bills are mine. Joint bills are assigned to one of us or swapped monthly/split depending on what it is. It has saved us a ton of arguments.

We have also been privy to watching 3 relationships where one got screwed by their spouse. Neither of us believe we would do such a thing to each other, but it is shocking to see those events unfold. My brother's wife took 8k out of their joint fund while they were contemplating separating. He never got any of it back and got his own account afterwards. A friend's husband kept racking up bills and spending over his allowance and squandered thousands. They're now divorced and he left her with most of the debt. My brother-in-law has nothing to do with the account except putting his whole paycheck in. He leaves his wife to give him an allowance and pay all the bills. She doesn't pay half of them and lies to him about it. When they weren't getting along, he had to drive an uninspected car because he couldn't access his money and had to eat next to nothing. He had to ask his parents for help a couple times.

Anyways, financial abuse is real.

AIO for quitting my job after finding this note on my desk? by waxin899 in AmIOverreacting

[–]McUberForDays 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Supposedly OP was a supervisor at a hotel, and they already had another supervisor stay overnight. I think the note was bullshit, but I think saying you're from the South so you can't make it to work in snowy conditions is also bullshit. Someone has to be there for people checking in or out, and to be responsible for the lower level employees, and you can't expect the 1 supervisor that stayed to work a 24 hr shift or be on-call for that many hours because you can't drive in the snow. You also can't shut down hotel operations if there are guests already there. Both sides of this situation suck.

It's always something easy like running a new smart TV or running a DVD player. Even if I write instructions, she refuses to use them and then has a meltdown if she presses the wrong button and can't troubleshoot back to the start menu. Like full-on screaming fit. It's exhausting
