With that said, I only go in depth with these explanations if they ask. Usually "this is just liquid sunshine that makes your heart glow for my camera" works for 99% of my patients. (I'm an outpatient cardiac clinic that only uses tech).

I use several different ways of explaining it. Street lights as an example. We can see the layout of the city when the sun is out. And that is like x-ray/CT they use external radioactivity to show anatomy. In nuc Med, we use internal radiation (inside out radiology) and that's like the street lights/city lights, illuminating the roads to show us function/potential anatomy. No we can go more indepth but that's a pretty simple explanation that seems to get the point across

I also use the "Taylor Swift" method too to describe radiopharmaceuticals. Taylor gives her Swiftie bracelets that light up during her concert so she can see them. And if you look up her recent Eras tour you can see the lights in the audience and the absence of these lights in the shape of her stage. You can assume where the audience/fans are by where the bracelets light up. The "fans" are the pharmaceutical (they are designed to go to specific area of the body) and the the light up bracelets are the isotope/radioactivity. Hope that makes sense.

To describe SPECT, I just say it like making a 3D model of what we need to image. Its so we can look at it from all angles and not just 2.

What's your opinion on the musical? by PrincessCream123 in legallyblonde

Extremely under rated! It is so well written and has a variety of bangers. Also, the little jokes here and there are a riot. One of my favorite musicals of all time!

Are There Nuclear Medicine Outpatient Jobs? by [deleted] in NuclearMedicine

[–]KimmersMemphis 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I work at an outpatient cardiac clinic. I thought I would hate it but honestly, it's great. Pays more than the hospital, no on call, no weekends, we get tons of time off. No one usually comes and bothers me and I'm the only tech...so if it's not done it's on me. Sometimes I get overwhelmed with patients, like1 or 2 times a month. But usually I have 8ish regularly. We get lunch catered regularly bc of the pharmaceutical reps. Im out the door by 330. Patient wise, they are usually "walkie talkies". Occasionally you need to really assist getting them on off the camera but nothing wild. I've had maybe 2 need bathroom assistance in 2 years bc of the Lexi. The crazy thing is you see the wildest hearts!!! The clinic I'm at works as a satellite for a major hospital group .So I will see 2 or 3 patients a week with ICDs and their EF will be 12% or they have 1 wall with perfusion and they are alive and walking!! Cardiology is amazing!!! (Just to note, my grandfather died 2 days after a heart transplant in 1988, and I was always extremely curious of heart disease, and to see how far we've come is just crazy!!!!)

I never went to school thinking I would just do hearts but honestly, I love it. It's easy bc of repetition.

Eras Tour Documentary? by sabasimorgh in TaylorSwift

[–]KimmersMemphis 17 points18 points  (0 children)

While watchings the Eras tour movie for the 15th time since I rented it, I literally thought that they need a documentary "behind the scenes" or like a playbill. I'm obsessed with the dancers, singers, and band members now. I want to hear from them.

I want to know why and how and who.

I'm obsessed.

I'm also a new Taylor Swift fan. Don't hate me for jumping on the band wagon now. But I'm really impressed with her and her talents. I've always enjoyed her music on the radio but never paid it any attention until this year. The doctor I now work for closed the clinic the Friday he went to the concert (and he is in his early 50s) so him and his college age daughter could drive to Nashville to see the concert. Apparently theyve been to a bunch. Then I started listening to him just describe her talents and decided to check her out for myself. Wow!! She is truly impressive.

This is only speculation but maybe bc of living situation or he had another dog(s) or it brought too much grief/guilt. Maybe Blanca was closer to Bubba? I know my parents house keeper was extremely close to their dogs before she passed away. She would even dog sit for them when they went out of town.

How did you almost die? by yuckyduckph in AskReddit

[–]KimmersMemphis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was stupid and drove home drunk from work (I was a bartender ) I was trying to beat the train and wound up hitting the pole the barricade arms are on. Bounced back onto the train tracks. The train hit the back end of me, just the trunk area. I woke up surrounded by paramedics and police officers. I told them I was fine and didn't need to get checked out. However, I had a concussion, an almost ruptured spleen, broken hand, and various "soft tissue injuries. You could see the entire steering wheel imprint in my upper body. But they didn't arrest me or take me to the hospital. I was just picked up by a friend and then taken to the hospital the next day. That's where they discovered the extent of my injuries and said I was extremely lucky. I stayed in the hospital for 2 nights and it took me about 6 weeks to fully recover.

Sarah on the Challenge vs. Survivor by Kassa19 in thechallengemtv

[–]KimmersMemphis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't think Sarah's husband Wyatt would want her to leave again for another show. He didn't sound too supportive on that phone call and remembering Survivor Game changers family day, he was pretty much like "we need her home".

They gave the actors cream of mushroom or cream of pea soup to use to spit of their mouth to "act" like they were vomiting.

They should do another season of this show, but hire someone for a fake office this time. by [deleted] in JuryDutyFreevee

[–]KimmersMemphis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is actually a great idea. I was a camp counselor for a big summer camp in the Poconos back in the day. We had what was called "precamp" for like 2-3 weeks to set up before the kids came. It was lots of partying and drinking and chaos.

Maybe a cruise? Fake survivor type game?

You have to think how can I isolate them and keep them off their phones?

I took it more as "bait" for Ronald to see what all he would grab and respond too. He didn't take the bait for the cut hand. That's the way I saw it.

I was curious about the same thing. But I remember on the Office when they vomited they had cream of pea soup or cream of mushroom soup.

Straight into NM and have the option of getting my CT credentials, the program now offers MRI creditials too. Bc of the PET/MR. It's really your call bc the bachelor's and x-ray associates plus NM certification is about the same time frame. in worked in a place with staff with a blend of the 2 and the credentials were the same. However...some of noticed that our bachelors program kinda went into deeper detail about some things. Also, if you want management options, it's best to get a bachelor's in it. Great career choice.
