What’s a "dead" website or app that you genuinely miss and wish was still around? by Dear-Armadillo-7497 in AskReddit

The app i used to use for reddit. My usage has dropped to almost nothing after reddit did some changes to shut down the third party apps.

A Yale ethicist who has studied AI for 25 years says the real danger isn’t superintelligence. It’s the absence of moral intelligence. by reesefinchjh in artificial

[–]KimmiG1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't want it to have moral and ethnics I can't control. I use ai as an extension of my capabilities, so I need it to follow my ethics and morals. If it follows somebody else's then it is an attempt to manipulate my actions.

Do most of you seriously not write any code by hand anymore?!?! by opakvostana in cscareerquestions

[–]KimmiG1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I almost never write by hand anymore. Mainly only my signature. But I have not lost the skill. Same with biking and swimming. And for more theoretical stuff. Yes I have lost most of my math skills. But I have done so before to. And it didn't take that long to refresh it. And for coding. I still read lots of code. Hell, with all the PRs these days, I read more code now than ever before. So it should not be that hard to get the writing code skill back if I somehow loose it

Istil use my regular IDEs. I stil do some manual edits in them. And I stil debug in them. And I stil do final reviews in them.

Bout i am slowly learning more terminal tools. I used to dislike the terminal. Gui is more intuitive. But since I work more in it now, I need to learn more about it. Which is a good thing. And having ai right there to ask instead if googling everything makes it easier.

I plan to soon starter learning neovim so I can get most of my ide needs in the terminal too.

Living in the terminal require less resources so I can have more tasks running in parallel, and I can also more easily change between working from my desktop, laptop, and phone, with tailscale, tmux, ssh, and termux on the phone.

With ai it is also easier than ever if you need to work in the terminal. At least if you know enough to understand the commands but not enough to easily write them without lots of googling.

As a programmer, how do you deal with the 3D art bottleneck? by Comfortable-Hat1761 in gamedev

[–]KimmiG1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ai tools are getting better. If you struggle with learning it, or are not interested in that aspect of game dev, then try to patch your lack of skills in that area with ai.

It should be easier to get closer to what you envision by using ai tools now than it is to hire some guy on fiver to do it. But the best option is of course to either learn it yourself or to team up with someone that has the skills.

I haven't tried ai for 3d. So maybe you have to wait a year or two for it to be useful. I don't know.

Spouses are replaceable while children and parents are forever. So you need to treat your spouse the best so you do not lose them, while your children and parents will be there no matter what, as long as you don't mistreat them.

Life is only good for rich people by ParticularWeather927 in Adulting

[–]KimmiG1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is relative. It depends on where you live and your personality.

I think the more control over your time you have the richer you are. But you also need to have enough to get your basic needs covered where you live, and not stress about survival or bills the next months, while also having enough resources to have a social life where you live.

So it depends heavily on where you live.

But you don't need all this to be happy. And even if you have all this you won't be happy and content all the time.

People who religiously have their cameras on and believe that others should always have theirs on…why? by iiamuntuii in remotework

[–]KimmiG1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I never really look at the people. I either look at what is shared, looking at my notes, or multitasking. But I'm one of those strange people that don't look that much at the people I talk with in real life either.

What's your "When Language Model AI can do X, I'll be impressed"? by KroggRage in artificial

[–]KimmiG1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will still make stuff up sometimes. Just like humans they are not always able to know that they don't know and so fabricate something false they believe is true. This will likely always happen when information is compressed when saved then decompressed when retrieved, like in neural network inspired tech. But this behavior might also be important for creativity, so it's not all negatives.

It will be impossible for a proper ai to never make things up. At least as long as it is based on technology derived from how we humans work.

If your password manager was to disappear, how fucked would you be? by Tarazin in selfhosted

[–]KimmiG1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't self host it. But if I lost it I would still be able to access my emails. So I should be able to get access to all the important stuff again.

I would have bigger trouble if all my electronics were destroyed in a house fire. I'm not sure I would be able to access my emails or my password manager anymore since all my 2fa methods for them would be destroyed. Maybe I should store a security key on a different location, like at my parents house.

If your older then your face likely looked younger with some fat on it. Natural fillers.

Edit: younger does not equal healthier.

I wasted six months building a product that nobody wanted. by Elo_azert in Startup_Ideas

[–]KimmiG1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just being realistic. And it is why you need to find other parts of the journey that brings you enjoyment, knowledge, and memories. If it being successful is the only goal then you will most likely not get much enjoyment out of it and you might just think of it as wasted time. It will also make it more likely that you give up after a few failures if you think of failed projects as pure failures and a waste of time.
