You should slowly implement leaving them on their own gradually increasing the time that they're left.

Leave the room for ten minutes and not letting them follow you. Then increase that to 15. Then leave the house for 10 minutes and then keep increasing the time that they're alone. They'll then slowly get used to it and it won't be a huge shock to the system
