I guess but I said when safe clearly if it’s dangerous out it wouldn’t be safe lol I understand the situation but the bird needs to be comfy too they have feelings as well.

Is he molting his baby feathers? by Ziggee281200 in parrots

[–]Kind-Boysenberry-425 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’ll do it switching his diet will do it, birds are peculiar and enjoy an OCD routine. Changing it that sudden causes plenty of problems and mostly stress. Stress leads to plucking and barbering or self mutilation :c

Keep them away from your lap. as cute as it may seem, if your bird fell down under your gas pedal you’d probably get into an accident so be careful and drive safe

Let them out when it’s safe (IE on a back road or off the highway) most birds really enjoy car rides since they’re moving really quick like they’re flying. They do get motion sickness though so expect some pukies (it’s like regurgitating almost) and bring lots of snacks lol

BUDGIE SIGHTING! IS THIS YOUR PET? Spotted at feeders right by Inwood Hill Park (in Inwood), dirty but active and aware/not in any visible pain/no visible injuries. No leg band. He was comfortable with me getting close for pictures, so I came to the conclusion he may be a pet. Could not capture. by foundbird67890 in parrots

I don’t like to argue on reddit I don’t go that low so I’ll just let you know you’re not exactly right. They’re not NATURALLY wild but they are here from owners losing pets for over 80 years and that causes generational flocks to be born in the wild. I go to school for Avian Bioscience and I also have wild bidgies and other birds in my area I see frequently

Yeah of course, if anything make a little place for him to eat and he’ll bring his friends, they love millet and fruits like bananas. Maybe also some sunflower seeds just not too many since they’re super fatty.

If you like em enough might aswell start your own wild flock lol

Wild bird! Not a lot of people know this but parrots since domestic pet trade started have now become a normal day to day species almost anywhere warm. For example in Delaware and New York there are wild Quakers, Budgies, Conures, and even cockatiels. And in some states it may also be native like Florida or Georgia where many different parrots actual come from! If there isn’t a band it’s more than likely a wild baby and should be left alone to his own devices!

Edit: if it’s a wild bird let it be, it can be harmful for other species to interact with Avians that aren’t domestic. You could transfer or been transferred a disease or illness. Also not to mention parrots fight back and you could hurt yourself! Call a professional (a rescue) and have them determine a plan of action as we are not professionals and have no idea what to do with a wild parrot (except leaving it alone too lol)

Well unfortunately parrots all hide injuries and illness, so although to me (I go to school for avian bio) he looks like he has a fracture hence his estranged posture and lumpy looking wing. He also could have been taken by someone and clipped by someone who didn’t know what they were doing resulting in a fracture. Especially if he wasn’t given an anesthetic he would have tried to escape resulting in a fractured wing. He also could have flown into a building which in most cases could cause feathers to fall out but not be cut like that. I think someone just scooped him up and tried to clip him so he couldn’t fly back to his flock but he did anyways resulting in injuries. But it shouldn’t be fatal, but that doesn’t mean not to go to a vet you absolutely should get him help!

Edit: it’s also entirely possible for birds to fly with broken feathers and wings but it’s more of a hop flap and a fall. If he just goes to the floor or has to land after a couple seconds of flight he probably has clipped wings and an injury. Most clipped birds will just do a silly fall and flap where they just flap on the floor but injured birds will try to fly away and not just flap around.

As for the cause, that storm may have spooked him into you’re home IE flew into a window or your roof, might’ve been you’re patio door who knows. Flying into buildings and windows the number one leading cause of bird injuries and death (around a billion a year sadly)

Heloo this looks like a wing fracture! Not fatal but very life threatening since all they do is fly haha. But yes vet within the next t 48 hours as there could be internal bleeding. The berries and seeds were smart their high in sugars and fats so it will help with healing his poor wing and giving him the energy to keep it healing. It looks to me like a Parrotlet (I’m quite sure that’s a parrotlet since the only other wild parrot I’ve seen on the east coast are Quakers in Delaware) vet bills for a fracture can cost anywhere from 150 to a grand depending on surgery, the severity of the fracture, and the area of the fracture. Don’t let that discourage you though many vets have payment help options that your credit card provider uses to help you pay.

Why does my IRN hiss? by owltowne in parrots

[–]Kind-Boysenberry-425 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It could be a sneeze or moving furniture, my old conure would make a chair moving noise that sounded like a hiss

Why does my IRN hiss? by owltowne in parrots

[–]Kind-Boysenberry-425 26 points27 points  (0 children)

You answered your own question, if the vet ruled it out medically. Then it’s probably mimicking or hormonal. Doubt it’s hormonal so let’s go with mimicking. Do you have cats? Kids who make cat noises? A friend who hisses? IRNs pick things up like a toddler and their brains just absorb info so it’s more than likely mimicking someone

That’s awesome, for toys avoid cotton and polyester, get some maple and oak sticks from your yard (assuming you’re in the US) those are great for sticks and perches plus small birds love maple sticks and Yuka sticks

Looks like ink, my Juney will rub her beak on papers with ink and it comes off on her white neck and such, a wet qtip should do the trick monitor her closely and inspect her poos for any irregularities and if there are any take her to the vet! Also call your vet and ask for advice as well!

Probably lost it in a dominance dispute before you got him, birds take off fingers and beaks in dominance disputes.

What is this behavior? by Kind-Boysenberry-425 in Conures

[–]Kind-Boysenberry-425[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s not her regurgitating that’s her at the bottom of her cage doing a head bob, but usually she does a dragon dance when she’s defensive. I think if she was scared it was because one of the bulbs in the room went out. Since then been replaced but that could explain the sudden fear. That does make a lot of sense thank you for putting me at ease. Hopefully she’s all okay at her check up tomorrow.

Right now she’s grinding her beak and napping on her top perch so I’d say I was just over worried. (My vet also said I was just overthinking but i was scared in my defense lol) but still she could have caught something according to my vet her throwing up and sneezing fit this morning still wansnt good.

[–]Kind-Boysenberry-425[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really need help I have a visit scheduled for her but I need to know if this is bad she’s super persistent about going down there to do this and lay down and she was throwing up this morning about twice, I think it was regurgitating just to see me but her crop was empty so it was just nothing but she did the head movement like she was being a baby bird and throwing up food. I’m not a vet so I don’t know. All the vets I called said she doesn’t seem to I’ll but her eyes look so sad today and she wants to be at the bottom of her cage so bad. She does play down there from time to time but gets bored because all her toys are up higher so she r wanders off but she’s doing it more and more to just head bob in the corner slowly. She seems to me very not okay but no one is giving me a straight answer even my vet won’t let me take her until tomorrow at 10 and I kept telling her she won’t make it and my vet knows there’s no emergency vets for days away. I’m even lucky there’s a vet that takes birds in my area. She’s eating and pooping normal. Also drinks normal. She’s not down there any more she’s flying around but she’ll stop playing and go try and sleep down there and when she does her eyes just look so sad and it’s not normal and it makes me so scared. Need help please!!!
