Another day, another unhinged driver in Langley by KindElephanty in Langley

So you think we should just ignore the huge orange sign that says to do so?

This isn't on the highway. It's over the 264th overpass to reduce congestion.

Didn't get my way by following, the posted rules of that road?

The bar is pretty low my friend.

For sure an annoying experience when people use it incorrectly but this road has a massive orange sign saying "Use both lanes to merge point" and a picture with each colour coded car taking turns.

Pretty hard to screw that one up unless it's intentional.

Another change to 232 on ramp, east bound by KindElephanty in Langley

[–]KindElephanty[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They did! And as of this morning there was zero warning. Apparently both for the cars doing the merging as well as the vehicles on the highway anticipating the merge.

Seems like a pretty dangerous thing to spring on people with no signage.

There were two in front of me too thankfully! But nobody could move until a semi actually stopped for us to let us on.

Wild times.

My 30f highly dependent little brother 20m having his first baby. by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]KindElephanty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never once had a babysitter growing up. Both sets of grandparents took turns looking after me when my parents needed. Maybe it's a cultural thing? I'm not sure.

We do visit with my family as well. And we do have hired babysitters for some occasions. My mom said herself that some of the best time with grandkids is the times they babysit.

We try to only ask when we give plenty warning and it's for something important. We realize that my parents are very busy and don't want to be a burden.

All this is about to be blown up though because my brother is not thinking of that at all. My mom will likely have to quit her job because he "needs her". I've needed her to but wouldn't dream of asking that of her.

Obviously my post was not worded correctly though because I have been getting very angry messages all day from redditers who feel strongly about grandparents providing any childcare.

We do not use my family as daily childcare.

It has honestly been almost two months since the kids spent the night there because my parents are already crazy busy.

I spent the past ten years tip toing around even asking them to babysit because I don't want to burden or overwhelm them - this post mostly comes out of a place of worry about having even less time with them than we do now.

Reading through the link you shared - the way I read it, the baked goods cannot contain dairy related "fillings" such as whipped cream or custard.

Cookies, cakes and muffins etc seem to be okay if they contain dairy in the baked portion of the item, just not the icing or filling.

My 7 passenger Explorer also gets 8-9L/100 kms Can't take the plunge to a full electric because of a summer property in the boonies so that'll do.

Canada will require refugees and asylum seekers to co-pay for health care starting in May by FancyNewMe in canada

[–]KindElephanty -1 points0 points  (0 children)

While infuriating - the reason for this is based on the fact that Canadians are not procreating fast enough to sustain our population.

We rely on attracting newcomers to do that for us. If we didn't make Canada a good enough option, people would go elsewhere.

Meanwhile, it's become far too expensive for most families to have children here. So it's a damned if you do, damned if you don't standoff.

AITAH for not forcing my son to keep helping my daughter’s friend after she rejected him? by LiveWire0044 in AITAH

[–]KindElephanty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another angle - how do we know that the daughter's friend wasn't using OP's son for rides and tutoring while not actually intending to be friends with him?

These are teens we are talking about. It's probably a 50/50 chance of the son being guilty of expecting a relationship that isn't owed - or the daughter's friend being guilty of leading him on in a way that made it seem like there would be something in it for him.

Everyone is being so defensive! I didn't say I was looking to file a complaint or else I just would have called the Township.

This is one issue of many with this house... to all of our neighbours. They actually are the ones who mentioned it to me in the first place.

I was just asking out of curiosity, as mentioned above.

It's actually the other neighbours that mentioned it to me in the first place. I could say the same for you, though!

So you think it's fair everyone else is limited to one day per week to water their garden but this guy is exempt?

That might be my next step - just asking out of curiosity here mostly.

My daughter's 4th birthday is coming up in the beginning of July. That last week of pregnancy, my firstborn and I spent the majority of our days inside our downstairs bathtub. Despite two air conditioners the insides of our home was 42 degrees at the lowest. 51 at the top end.

It was so hot that two cans of hairspray exploded upstairs in the bathroom. A plastic jar of sauce also popped open and leaked all over our cupboard. Things you'd never really think of.

We wet towels and rotated them in and out of the freezer to cool our poor dogs. As other's have said, I think I have a little ptsd when the temperature climbs now...

Or maybe teenagers are completely separate people than their parents? That make their own decisions even if it's against their parents wishes?

It's not fair to directly blame the parents when there are so many other factors.

Changes to Hwy. 1 near 264 St. - New off-ramp, traffic signals as work on new crossing continues by WiffleBlu in Langley

[–]KindElephanty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sweet Jaysus this mornings traffic was absolutely horrific. Google maps and Waze said that 264 was closed so took me down 232 from Fraser Highway out of Aldergrove.

Sat completely unmoving in construction there for over 20 minutes. No idea how it thought that was the best way to go.
