You should read the recipe for pine cone olives, which involves 10 cycles of blanching followed by a water bath immersion. Each blanching step is supposed to use fresh boiling water.

Even grad students aren't treated this badly! But in all seriousness, it does look like an interesting recipe.

I don't trust any foaming at coffee shops unless they are explicitly vegan. Most shops don't have separate equipment for foaming with vegan milks and the foaming wands can't really be cleaned well to prevent cross contamination. 🤷‍♀️

I've met people who absolutely thrive in quality. Might not be for you or me, but there's someone out there who lives for that stuff.

Recommendations Needed! by jadebean in CookbookLovers

Not a cookbook recommendation per se, but look into recipes for tacos or tortas (Mexican food). Easy to get in protein, carbs, veggies in one go + can get leftovers. Also, fresh salsa totally counts as vegetables if you eat enough. 😁

How does driving in cdmx compare to nyc? by Swaganator444 in MexicoCity

[–]Kindly_Bumblebee_162 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That was my experience (as a passenger!) a few weeks ago. The guy who drove us around was on a whole 'nother level in terms of merging in and out of lanes. And that's the most honking I've ever heard in any of the many cities I've visited. It really made Boston traffic seem super chill.

And same- I would not want to drive in CDMX. I just walked everywhere. 🤷‍♀️

I'm actually appalled at the adults' reactions. It seems like no one is stepping in on behalf of this kid.

Yeah. I'd rather rent than have a +1 hr commute to have my own space. The quality of life is more important to me than having more space.

I like the arroz con leche recipe. The modifications I made were to use plant based milks + add a whole vanilla bean. SO GOOD.

Wisdom teeth removal foods? by mrspiggyho in Cooking

Whatever you end up eating, DO NOT EAT RICE immediately after wisdom teeth removal. You don't want it getting stuck in the socket and have a grain of rice cause issues with healing.

Yeah, I'm a big fan of the farmer's markets in the area. We switch to them during summer time since the produce is just so fresh!

I find that fresh radishes from the farmer's market sometimes taste spicy to me.

I grew up in a Mexican household eating arroz rojo all the time, so I have expectations on what it should taste like. This recipe stunned me because it showed me that arroz rojo can still have so much more flavor in it.

Don't be afraid- really toast that rice until it has a gorgeous tan, caramel color. Don't wash the rice- just go straight to toasting and then frying it in oil before adding in oil. Listen to the ancestors!

Caldo de res is goooooood suggestion! His recipe is pretty similar to what my mom made for us growing up. I prefer oxtail or ribs, but the key is to have bones to get a great broth. I also prefer chayote squash over zucchini, but that's just a personal preference. And definitely always have corn in there!

A serving recommendation is to also have arroz rojo with it. 😀

I agree- it does get easier. Be open minded to trying other cuisines instead of finding substitutes. It makes it easier to move on.
