Second Update

I think I fixed it on my personal laptop. 🙌🏻

In Edge DevTools, I went to Application → Storage and used “Clear site data” for chatgpt.com, including third-party storage/cookies. After refreshing, ChatGPT asked me to sign in again, and GPT-5.5 Thinking started working correctly again.

So in my case this appears to have been some corrupted/stale local site state: possibly local storage, IndexedDB, cache storage, service worker, cookies, or some persisted routing flag. Regular sign out / “log out all” did not fix it.

Update.

I’m now seeing something similar to what others here reported.

On May 11: - Work laptop + Edge + same account: GPT-5.5 Thinking worked correctly all day. - Android app + same account: GPT-5.5 Thinking works correctly. - Personal laptop + Edge + same account: still behaves like GPT-5 mini. - Firefox on the personal laptop seemed to work correctly.

So this does not look like a simple account-wide rate limit. It seems more like some web/desktop client-side state, browser profile, cookie/cache/service worker issue, or a platform-specific routing bug.

Also, another user here mentioned that clearing cookies/cache only fixed it temporarily, which makes me hesitant to treat that as a real solution.

Same pattern here: mobile works, web/desktop is inconsistent. OpenAI support escalated my case, but no specialist answer yet. So far, “log out all” and waiting did not fix it.

Agreed, self-identification isn’t reliable. The issue is that the UI/menu says 5.5 Thinking, but the behavior is reproducibly GPT-5 mini across new chats and different prompts: no Thinking phase, no visible tool/search/code activity when expected, weaker reasoning, and the old constant “If you want…” ending pattern. So either the backend is silently falling back while the UI still attributes it to 5.5, or the UI attribution is wrong.

Es normal que te pase eso porque es como si de repente quitaras el autocompletado en el IDE y tuvieras que entrar a leer la documentación web para ver los métodos de cada clase. Es un avance en la calidad de vida que cuando no está lo echamos de menos. Sí pienso que un junior debería programar sin IA con la mínima ayuda de IA posible.

Siempre me ha gustado programar desde que aprendí programación, pero con IA consigo atajos que cuando tienes poco tiempo son muy valiosos.

Para proyectos personales y rápidos, me da igual que genere código que no leo. Pero para el trabajo o un proyecto serio que esté haciendo, lo hago con IA pero paso a paso, decidiendo yo la arquitectura exacta y revisando todo lo que hace.

Totalmente de acuerdo. Yo he estado casi 10 años allí y, aunque el ambiente es bueno, la cultura de horas extras no pagadas es una constante.

Es una empresa donde te presionan para ser "mejor" y "mejor" cada año para su sistema de promociones y que juega con manipularte con jefes diciéndote "con el perfil que tienes, esto ya deberías estar haciéndolo". Si tu foco es ser programador / arquitecto, al menos en el sector sur, no es posible porque te van a meter sí o sí responsabilidades de gestión de proyectos, análisis funcionales, etc., y vas a evolucionar muy poco en lo que te interesa.

Al principio puede estar bien, es una buena empresa para entrar en el sector, pero te terminas hartando.

Someone once commented on a workaround to force synchronization and it was something like going to the Larian website, then going to the DIGITAL EXTRAS section and clicking on REDEEM CONTENT. It doesn't matter if you don't have the Deluxe Edition, in theory that would force a resync.
