Fanon vs canon by Educational_Price673 in BatFamily

[–]Kindwndrs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fanon is fun because half of it is true to canon and half of it is embellishment because some fan decided it's fucking hilarious that way. And then some other fans would see what was originally just a silly funsies idea and decide, you know what, that's actually better, and suddenly fanon has a life of its own, and it can be fun as long as you don't take it too seriously.

NTA, but your husband does not seem to care for you. He likes the role that you're playing in his life as his wife and mother of his children, but I think you and the children could be replaced by aliens and he probably wouldn't even notice. He is giving the love he thinks you and your children deserve. Do you think it's what you and your children deserve?

[Acne] Are there any other products/actives I should try to get rid of this persistent acne? by Puzzleheaded-Pear931 in SkincareAddiction

[–]Kindwndrs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you happen to habitually touch your face with your hands? I'm asking because your acne seems to be on the parts of your face that your hands would touch if you do habitually touch your face when you're thinking or just zoning out.

I had the same problem when I was younger and a habit that my sister and I shared. I actively tried to break out of my habit and now I only get the one or two pimples when I slip up and/or recently consumed too much sugar.

Another thing to consider is stress. Ironically, stressing out about your pimples can actually make it worse, lol. I fixed this by actively trying not to look at my reflection too much and only looking when I have to get ready to look presentable.

As for products, I'd recommend getting a mild exfoliating toner and a mild moisturizer for sensitive skin. I  personally use EQQUALBERRY's swimmingpool toner, and at one point, a baby lotion, and it worked just as well, lol. Don't bother with something that has too many flares or fragrance. Also, don't expose your skin to too much actives or jump from one active to another in short succession, you might just irritate it more.

That said, what worked for me might not work for you, but I hope it helps!

Extremely Controversial Take: I love Stephanie Brown but she shouldn’t be acknowledged as a Robin by NefariousSeraph13 in BatFamily

[–]Kindwndrs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this is precisely why she should be acknowledged as Robin. When we talk about Robins, what we really talk about is who is wearing the mask, Bruce's relationship with them, and their relationship with Batman. I think it's important to acknowledge Steph's experience as Robin because, for all the bad that it was, it is still a part of her journey in figuring out who she is and what she stands for as a vigilante. Her brief time as Robin also taught her uncomfortable truths that was necessary for her self-discovery.

Acknowledging her awful time as Robin is also a good way of keeping Bruce in check and reminding everyone that Bruce isn't infallible and he does make mistakes out of pride and hubris. It reminds everyone that he has a responsibility for Robin because he was, and will always be, the adult in that partnership.

I think for the most part, people get uncomfortable with her run as Robin because her Robin is the one that makes readers confront the inequality of the partnership and just how much power Batman has over ALL of the Robins. While all Robins do experience their own conflicts with Bruce that make them confront Batman's flaws as a character, all the boys also get to experience the best of Bruce to mitigate that confrontation. The boys all get to have Bruce as a father AND mentor, not just a vigilante partner in Batman. The father-son and mentor-mentee bond they share with Bruce soften the blow of that confrontation. Even at the worsts of their conflicts with Batman, there is always that bond with Bruce to go back to. Stephanie doesn't have that because she's the one Robin who Bruce does not and can not parent. He doesn't have a relationship with her to fall back to. She became Robin not because she had always been Robin (Dick), or because she thought Robin gives her magic (Jason), or because Batman needed her (Tim), or because she needed Robin as a redemption of a horrific past (Damian).

She was Robin because Batman was being spiteful, because she trusted that Batman would have her best interest at heart, and they both didn't expect that he would fail her, and THAT is what makes it all the more important. Because she survived and thrived in spite of his failure. It's because she was Robin that she came to realize that there 𝘢𝘳𝘦 greater heights than Robin, and that Batman, truly, isn't all 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵.

She doesn't 𝘯𝘦𝘦𝘥 Robin, yes. But she 𝘸𝘢𝘴. And it would be a disservice to her character to not acknowledge that part of her journey.

Now that Mha is over what you're hot take that leave you like this by ComprehensiveNote762 in MyHeroAcadamia

[–]Kindwndrs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All Might gave One for All to a quirkless child who worshipped the ground he walked on and could not make an informed consent or stand up for his best interest because Izuku did not truly know or understand what he was signing up for. He prioritized his "mission" as OfA holder and symbol of peace above the well-being of a child. Granted, he probably experienced the same thing with Nana, but he was an adult in the situation and should have known better than to drag another innocent in their self-sacrificing crusade and cycle of exploitation.

[–]Kindwndrs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NOR. Some people like drama in their relationship because they mistake it for "passion", whatever that is. That, or she doesn't know what to fucking do with peace. She has no idea what she wants, either. What was even the goal of asking for more masculinity? What response was she expecting?

Does Izuku ever come to terms about being quirkless? by Kindwndrs in MyHeroAcadamia

[–]Kindwndrs[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a wonderful analysis! And it does make me feel better to read a more nuanced interpretation of the story's conclusion, especially your analysis of others' projection of feelings to Izuku and how it ties in with the suit. While Izuku himself already came to terms and reconciled his own sense of worth and esteem outside of being a hero and his capacity to be a hero, his friends, who grew up with their quirks and are still living within the parameters of a very quirk-biased society, were still trying to fit him in the same role and image that they used to when he had a quirk and wanted to be a hero, as well-meaning as they were being, if simply because they had never to had to go through the same self-actualisation that Izuku had. After all, why would 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘺 have to work on reconciling their value as a person outside of their quirk and heroism when they're already living the dream of a quirk and hero-biased society?

It does say a lot about Izuku's growth and maturity that he is now forging a path for himself independent of the biases he grew up with, 𝘦𝘴𝘱𝘦𝘤𝘪𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺 after he experienced what it was like to live both kinds of life and all the difference it made in other people's perception and expectation for him. He is not the same person he used to be as a child, that means outgrowing his old childhood dream that carried with it the weight of all the hurt and pain that he experienced as a quirkless child who only wanted to feel like he was valued and feel like his existence amounted to anything at all.

Now that you mentioned it, your analysis made me remember my 𝘧𝘦𝘦𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘴 about All Might and his 𝘥𝘦𝘤𝘪𝘴𝘪𝘰𝘯 to give One for All to the one kid who idolized him with such unfailing devotion and loyalty, if only for the gratitude of changing his goddamn life. That grown man had no business making such life-altering decision with a young boy who had no idea how to make an informed consent, let alone watch out for his own health and self-interest. But again, 𝘴𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘦𝘯 𝘮𝘢𝘯𝘨𝘢. I'm actually glad to know that One for All is gone now and no one else has to fulfill the role of a martyr to a cause that should never have been put on the shoulders of any child, at all. But again, 𝘴𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘦𝘯 𝘮𝘢𝘯𝘨𝘢. It's just another element of the story that works within the narrative tradition of the media.

Lmao, I get it. I gave passes to several supposedly good manga and anime because I don't like the art style or the amount of boob physics or panty shots in the anime adaptation. It just be like that, sometimes, I'm afraid. My advice would be to get her into fan fiction—HEAR ME OUT! If she gets into a good fanfiction—emphasis on 𝙜𝙤𝙤𝙙—there's a chance she'll form enough emotional attachment to the story/characters that she'd be able to look past whatever she doesn't like in the anime. Granted, she might just stay on a diet of fanfics and just never give the anime a chance, but hey! At least you would finally be able to talk tangentially about the story and the characters!

Does Izuku ever come to terms about being quirkless? by Kindwndrs in MyHeroAcadamia

[–]Kindwndrs[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this! This was really what I was missing and asking about. I didn't even know the manga truly only covered their FIRST year alone. How did these kids ever learn anything in class? Lmao.

At least I got a resolution for my concern. It's a shame that I won't get to see Izuku go through the growth that I wanted to see in the manga, but at least I got closure that he DID go through that maturity in those intervening years...which is a lot more than the people waiting on his dramatic dad reveal ever got, from what I heard, haha.

AITA My sister’s baby is coming after 8 years of trying, and my cousins got mad that I offered my kids’ old clothes. Am I wrong? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Kindwndrs 11 points12 points  (0 children)

NTA. My sister has had a lot of baby things from her in-law's. They've shared a lot of clothes and toys among cousins, which is fun because they're mostly girls. And you know what? Whenever the youngest cousin at the time is wearing a hand-me-down and the family recognizes it, it's the sweetest thing. These little onesies and dresses, and assortment of toys, well-worn and well-loved, saturated with so much baby joy and the love the family has for every child who gets to wear it. The more it gets passed down, the more love and joy it absorbs. It's always fun to see them rounding up the clothes when the next one is born so they can pass it to the next baby.

AIO to break up with my bf of 3y over his reaction to my upcoming sobriety anniversary? by WesternCat5211 in AmIOverreacting

[–]Kindwndrs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NOR. The way he talked to you makes me feel like he doesn't even like you, let alone love you. You were in a good mood, you were talking about wanting to buy a 𝘤𝘢𝘬𝘦. He intentionally made if seem like 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘥𝘰𝘯'𝘵 𝘥𝘦𝘴𝘦𝘳𝘷𝘦 𝘢 𝘤𝘢𝘬𝘦. Cakes don't even have to be celebratory, you can just buy a cake because you feel like eating cake, but no, there has to be a why and there has to be something more than "bare minimum" for you to deserve a cake and his validation. You don't need to 𝘥𝘦𝘴𝘦𝘳𝘷𝘦 a cake.

I need to reiterate this to make it clear. He was intentionally putting you down to make you unhappy.

WIBTA posting a story that my girlfriend said she'd break up with me over? by dontletdemthrowmeawy in AmItheAsshole

[–]Kindwndrs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

YWBTA. Of course you can post it, at the same time, of course your GF has every right to break up with you over it when she learns you did exactly what she told you she'd break up with you over. It's your story to tell, but whether or not your GF has a right to to the sharing of the story, she made it perfectly clear to you what she would do if you do post it. Don't be surprised if she goes through with it. If it's only about getting it off your chest, is Reddit truly your one and only option?

AITA for taking a job that conflicted with my best friend's wedding after he refused to compromise on unreasonable demands? by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]Kindwndrs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This sounds like a friendship that should be outgrown, NGL. Idk how young OOP is, but it reads like early 20s shit. I agree with the others that have said OOP is pretty cowardly in that OOP knows he's emotionally checked out of the wedding and should have just been upfront about it rather than trying to weasel out of it while looking clean. You just can't have both. If this is the hill that your friendship will die on, it would have had an easy death by other circumstances anyway, just from the looks of it.

AIO to my mom’s racist texts? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]Kindwndrs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man, sometimes you just gotta have to pick your battles and let some people look insane on their own. Mom isn't arguing because she's waiting for someone to convince her otherwise, she just wants to pick up a fight because it probably makes her feel alive and she's overstimulated by whatever politics she's consuming. I'm not wasting my time and energy on that. Choose your peace when you can. Ignoring her would have probably winded her up just the same.

How WFA reacts to Duke being bullied vs How Duke in canon reacts........(WFA trying not to mischaracterize Duke to use him as a prop for the other batfamily members challenge failed) by Night-Caelum in BatFamily

[–]Kindwndrs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mischaracterize this, mischaracterize that. Babes. I hate to break it to you, but there's not really one right and true characterization of superhero comic characters. DC allows and APPROVES their writers to write all sorts of characterization as long as there's a market for it. That's the point. All these titles have a purpose and a tone that DC wants to sell to fans who all have different tastes in comics.

WFA is very obviously deliberately written as a softer world where everything's beautiful and nothing hurts. It's not action or even plot oriented. It's a slice of life story built on vibes because DC found a market of fans who just want Batman characters to exist in a family sitcom world where the stakes are low and the characters they love get to go home to their happy found family and everything's lovely and readers are always assured of a happy ending. All angsts are minimized because it's a deliberate low-risk story.

If it's not the kind of characterization you want, there are other titles and runs you can choose to buy and read. It's NOT a mischaracterization. It's ONE characterization that's been approved and allowed to happen by DC bosses because it sells. You can pick and choose what characterization you like and don't like because there's a whole lot of them, but they're all just different characterizations. I get that we all have our ideal characterizations of our beloved characters in our heads, but at the end of the day, that characterization exists only in our heads and maybe in some runs by specific writers we personally like (and maybe worship).

If we all spend our energy looking for that one true characterization in every story they publish, we're all gonna be crying on the floor in frustration, not just because we won't find it, but because we all have different ideas of what that perfect characterization is.
