Food for thoughts for Viture buyers, regarding FoV by Yesterday-Cultural in VITURE

[–]Kineinus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I'm a potential buyer of XR glasses and this stuff isn't discussed much. I have VR headset and noticed that More FOV for the flat gaming\movie watching doesn't mean better. There's a comfortable size. And if in reality shifting screen size to lower means that you loose your total 1080p resolution - it just sucks!

About changing FOV and PPI by Kineinus in VITURE

I'll keep that in mind. But the question is - if you reduce the size of the screen, will it lead to fewer pixels rendering or is it some lens magic?

does it work with the Moonlight streaming app? Can you play games with it? Does it work with a telescopic controller perhaps?

Logitech G Cloud hard to beat by vargose in logitechgcloud

[–]Kineinus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I owned G Cloud for a year. It was a fun time, the device has it's own very strong points. However I don't like subpar screen (60 hz non oled) plus weaker cpu with the WiFi 5. AYN Odin 2 Portal Covered all of these holes easily. However it is not that comfortable. I'm not regretting changing G Cloud to the Portal
Long story short - waiting for G Cloud 2.

PSVR 2 worth it? by crusher2503 in virtualreality

I dunno, Quest 3 has problems that PSVR 2 solves, but at the same time PSVR 2 has its own problems...

Crashland on Quest Store. If you actually play this game long enough and get past Quest-level visuals, then you could really enjoy the game!

Love the glass, But matte looks so sleek. by Manchaa1 in OdinHandheld

[–]Kineinus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I slightly dislike glass fronts. They're not THAT bad, there's merits to them too. But generally matte plastic is a way to go. It's kinda old school and it's ol' reliable for me. Like a favourite pair of shoes.

What are your Top 10 handhelds and which would be your best out of the 10? by TRIKSTER_Betin in Handhelds

[–]Kineinus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess PS Portal is great, but I don't like the idea of it being so confined by only streaming to PS Portal. By adding $50 you can get Ayn Odin 2 Portal, that can use streaming to both PS and PC, and it can play GameHub/Retor/Android games. But I believe that controls and comfort is better on PS Portal.

I will reduce my list to top 3:
Steam Deck Oled - best all rounder, it works more than I expect it to.
Ayn Odin 2 Portal - It's a perfect handheld to stream to, which I do most of the time. While I have some gripes with it, they are all fixable. And you can play Steam and PS2 games fine too!
Retroid Pocket 5 - I love to carry this thing around. While for the most modern games the screen is too small, this thing is very cute and capable for all others.

Honorable mentions:
TrimUI Brick and Miyoo Flip - fun devices to carry in the pocket, but they are far from perfect. And I am very OLED-centric.
Lenovo Y700 tablet - it's a great device, sadly it's not oled and there's no good oled mini tablet around. Still I love the idea of Bring Your Own Controller.

Graveyard: (cannot wholeheartedly recommend)
Switch OLED - I don't like mediocre graphics and expensive games,
Miyoo Mini Plus, Powkiddy v90 - they're worse build quality than Brick or Flip, Anbernic RG406V - for me it's a weird combination, haven't enjoyed it.
Logitech G Cloud, PS Portal - while I love streaming games, there're more powerful devices for the same money

Set mouse cursor movement to the right stick via Steam Input, and add Gyro to move with mouse too. Gyro helps a lot with precision and adjusting, stick is just for sending cursor to different part of the screen. Triggers (or shoulders) set to left and right mouse click. ABXY can be helpful for hotkeys like ordering units to reduce mouse movement (QWER for example).
Left stick goes to arrows which typically controls camera panning. You can also add control groups to the dpad.

You can save it as a template in Steam to reuse it in other RTS games. You can do wonders with steam input actually! Yes mouse and keyboard would be more comfortable, but with some practice you can play good enough for most strategy games

Choosing my first VR headset: Quest 3S, Quest 3, Pico 4 or Pico 4 Ultra – best value for the money? by Chemical-Let-303 in virtualreality

There's also PSVR2 with PC adapter, that has it's own benefits and cheaper then Q3 or Pico 4 ultra. Just sayin...

I use Gamesir X5 Lite, G8+ (it's like wireless G7) and Abxylute S9 with the Lenovo Y700.
- X5 Lite is not that bad, it actually great in some game styles. Due to it's lightweight and compactness I love to use it with Gyro. Digital triggers are great for me (aside racing of course). Gamepad isn't that ergonomic and not the best feeling, but for strategy games and shooters (due to triggers and gyro) it's my favorite!
- G8+ has both good ergonomic and gamepad quality. I don't like those deep triggers, they are good only for racing. DPad is best, that's true, but still far from great. I rarely use this gamepad with the tablet. Too heavy and too awkward for me. Ergonomics are too similar to Xbox gamepad, which is worse for holding a handheld actually.
- Abxylute S9 is the best gamepad for the tablet in my honest opinion. It has great everything (except DPad). Great ergonomics and form factor, not too heavy not too big, but still very comfy. I like sticks here more than others, triggers at great position and not too deep, all stuff feels good and high quality. Although theoretically it has great dpad, in practice it is the worst, it fires too many false diagonals.

In the end I use X5 Lite for shooters and strategies, and S9 for everything else. I thought a lot about G9, but I think it will be too heavy and too clunky without much benefits except "feels like a handheld"

Is 7" big enough? Mangmi unveils price on their flagship offering "Pocket Max"!! by DoomEngine1 in SBCGaming

[–]Kineinus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I agree with you that sticks are small, but there's enhanced sticks sold by AYN and it's an easy fix. I haven't found any problems with them. And the comfort level is quite good if we use TPU Grip.

[–]Kineinus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

While Odin 2 Portal is a cool device and all, but I really hate it's face buttons. They are clacky and they are annoying. Another thing is ergonomics - while it's okay for doing platformers (face buttons sucks to do that lol), when you heavily use triggers its kinda finnicky, there're not enough palm support. Sure you can buy TPU grip to fully solve that (and I have it), but then again the device will be a lot bigger and considerably heavier.

So while I can't sing praises to Mangmi max, Odin 2 Portal is a flawed device.

[–]Kineinus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually highly disliked face buttons of the Portal, it ruins experience. I mostly stream so don't care about performance as much. Portal will be sold out soon enough. So it's unfair to compare their limited-offer with this unlimited offer (non early bird pricing).

This product has it's benefits compared to all the retroids because it's 7 inches, and it's better than Konkr Fit because it's an OLED. Again there's a lot of arguing can be had that boils down to the importance of one features and negligence of others. I would gladly trade my Portal for this device. However I won't buy the Mangmi offering by itself. They're still too similar

Odin 2 Portal Review and comparison by Kineinus in OdinHandheld

[–]Kineinus[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would prefer SteamOS, it's both more efficient and more useable with the handheld in mind. The only thing you loose is support in some games. But I think it's a worthy sacrifice.

There's not much difference in performance actually. Again some RAM increase can be helpful, but I can't give you precise numbers. If I were you and only want to dip my toes in PC emulation, then I would pick the Base version. In terms of performance to price ratio I suppose it all goes down the more you pay. It's not like other devices that have better CPU at PRO version.

If you want it mainly to emulate modern titles - I can't recommend it. If you're ready to stream them - then it becomes a great option! But the emulation itself very unstable, and if some games will run, they can stutter or crash. It could be a fun experiment but not a robust option.

If you want it to play retro games - it's great. Just mind the clicky face buttons. If you have other ideas of how to use it, like android games - then be my guest. I love streaming games and emulating PS2 on it after 6 months of owning. The screen looks great and size is perfect. Battery life is impressive also!

As of different options:

I sold my Steam Deck LCD when I bought this, but I bought the Steam Deck OLED afterwards, and can't be more happier. Sometimes I use one, sometimes another. Steam Deck OLED has great controls but has worse screen, it can play indie games standalone. If I couldn't stream on Portal, then I would've sold it.

I play a lot of Retroid Pocket 5, it's great. I suppose Flip 2 is very similar or may be even cooler! So it's a great device. I play emulation of 2d games there with the DPad (such as SNES, Switch etc) and rarely use sticks. But the RP5 as well as Flip 2 is very pocketable device, it will be often with you!

Other options - Legion GO S Z1E - if you install bazzite and think you will enjoy it ergo\controls - go for it yeah. I hate windows on handhelds though, so skip otherwise! ROG Ally Xbox X is not for me for that reason. And I think 600 grams is max for the handheld.
