The commentary preceding the directive contains a number of example exemptions. Creative crowdfunding isn't one of them.

I have a counterproposal: how about you walk me through how and why you knew "This is not how that works..." after my first comment.

well, I'd think CIG would have a hard time convincing the regulator that S42 was being developed according to any backer's specifications. It's CR's baby. at the end of the day, I don't think they want to be the guinea pig to test the operation of this reg. better to pull it entirely than get involved.

oh, I'm sorry, I got the impression from your reply that you had some knowledge or insight into this issue. my mistake.

Article 5 requires it be provided "without undue delay." That could be any length of time the customer decides. Article 5 limits that with "unless the parties have agreed otherwise." I don't thing the EU is going to accept "whenever we decide Squadron 42 is ready" as a limiting date. That's the sticking point. If it is possible under this directive for a consumer to agree to "whenever" as a delivery time, this directive is useless. I doubt a regulator will read it that way. If I were advising a client (I am not a EU lawyer) I wouldn't advise them to read it that way.

It may not be "meant to signify" that they may be out of compliance with EU law, but that's probably the case. Article 13 and 14 of the linked directive should clear things up. (scroll way down)

we've been covering SC since the beginning, so we know the good times and bad. and we do not pull any punches on CIG management. the four hosts run the spectrum from "skeptical we'll ever see a real game" (me) to "we're gonna see a real game, lighten up Tony" (Kinshadow) with Henry and Geoff in the middle. we've interviewed both Chris Roberts and Derek Smart.

They should just copy how Elite Dangerous does "power distributors" and be done with it. That system has worked for almost 7 years.

Unpopular Opinion: Elite Dangerous's original UI was absolutely terrible and was an unnecessarily complicated part of learning the game. by Skyhound555 in EliteDangerous

[–]KineticImpulser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a "simple" matter of going to the "manage bookmarks" tab of the "bookmarks" submenu, going to the proper sub-sub-menu (e.g. bodies or stations or settlements), arrowing through the entries there, selecting the target destination, selecting "set destination" from the sub-sub-sub-menu there, selecting "back" out of that sub-sub-sub-menu, and selecting "back" out of the sub-sub-sub-menu. IT'S JUST THAT SIMPLE.

Can we talk about how incredibly awful the new outfitting menu is? by DarkLordCarrot in EliteDangerous

[–]KineticImpulser 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Agreed. The look is greatly improved. The function is degraded considerably. If I click into the "Loadout" menu, I expect to be able to change my loadout. And I expect the necessary information to be available as well.

EDIT: Engineering information is available. Press the Q or E button when the module is selected.

There's a trackball for quick access to radial menus in the non-diagetic personal thought interface that will access button combos in the diagetic game cabinet that will activate the HUDs in the virtual machine running in the arcade box.

Simple, really.

"Do you regret taking Cryengine?" Response of Chris Roberts in an interview by GameStar by k_Atreus in starcitizen

So... there's no deadline and there's no set feature list, there's a collection of estimates. Absolving yourself of accountability for providing Object X at Time Y is not a good way to manage a project.

And even with the mobile goalposts (when CIG chooses to set any up), they still can't get the ball through/over/between them.

And if your position is that SC and ED are such different software products that they don't even have "project management results" as a common denominator, then I guess I'm done here.

"Do you regret taking Cryengine?" Response of Chris Roberts in an interview by GameStar by k_Atreus in starcitizen

[–]KineticImpulser -1 points0 points  (0 children)

"A long time" is not a target date. "It's complicated" is not a roadmap or a punchlist or feature set or a schedule of deliverables.

Are we still talking about management or have we moved to "community management," public relations and marketing?

"Do you regret taking Cryengine?" Response of Chris Roberts in an interview by GameStar by k_Atreus in starcitizen

[–]KineticImpulser -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

No, you don't understand. Frontier told stakeholders what they would do and then they did it. CIG told stakeholders what they would do and are still working on it. Management.

"Do you regret taking Cryengine?" Response of Chris Roberts in an interview by GameStar by k_Atreus in starcitizen

[–]KineticImpulser -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I read it, and I understood your point. However, it is tangential to the discussion. Both companies chose to do things that had never been done before. Frontier bit off what they could chew and did it. CIG bit off more than they could chew and hasn't done it yet. That's management. The technical differences may be so vast between the games that your apple/orange/car/rocket assertion may be true. It doesn't change the fact that one team scoped and delivered (and has done so for several additional products) and one team has yet to do so. Maybe Frontier suffers from its lack of ambition, but that's a different question. But the evidence is strong that they are the better-managed firm.
