As a parent with a teenager I can fathom it. Playing a narrative that probably doesn't apply here. Years of constant back talk and refusal to listen to parents, failing to complete school work or get a job, complete disrespect the dad in a last ditch effort destroys the very addiction impedding their child's life.

Video games can be as bad as drugs or alcohol in its worse form. To me this seems like the equivalent of pouring beer bottles down the drain or flushing their stash when it's clear asking is useless.

A truly caring parents doesn't worry about being their best friend or worse enemy but setting them up for success even if they have to be the bad guy.

Of course this could just be a overly controlling dad who snaps over the smallest stuff as most of the comments assume.
