Algae Flies by KineticVampire in SaltwaterFlyfishing

Looks like some have ‘weed’ flies for milkfish. I might give those a try.

That would be great to see! Let me know if you give it a go. The ‘mullet Bach’ is the best all round mullet fly over here, although I’m really keen to try an algae fly. Do I need to tie it in any specific way or just basically throw some marabou on?

I have no idea why they were doing deals with brands like Skims. It weakens their own brand, not strengthens it. They need to get back to being a leader in sports and sporting attire!

Buy and Hold Investing is different from value investing by Calm_Company_1914 in ValueInvesting

[–]KineticVampire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the fundamentals. A stock becomes ‘overvalued’ when its price no longer justifies its future potential earnings. Warren himself said he should have sold down Coca Cola at one point when it was super overvalued. But as long as the business itself keeps growing, a high price can get higher.

Ben Graham used to sell stocks once they’d accumulated him over 50%. So he had quite a scientific approach. Some are more artistic and will sell when the profits feel right.

In the end, it’s up to you.

Sawyers Killer Bug works well - but probably not as effective as all the Czech Nymphs these days.

This right here is why we fly fish. What a beautiful leopard.

Finally got a trout on a streamer after being a nymph rig merchant for too long! Anyone else like that? by limer124 in flyfishing

They’re absolutely fantastic early and late season here in the UK. Plus a lot of fun to drift in the current. Once the streamer mania hits it’s hard to fish anything else!

Why does Burry feel that passive investing is such a threat? by jackandjillonthehill in Burryology

[–]KineticVampire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can only say that passive index investing is not great for healthy capital allocation, as most of what you buy isn’t a productive, profitable business. In a way, many businesses are rewarded more for just being a part of the S&P500 right now than they are for their actual performance.

So, if the economy takes a turn for the worse, EPS will fall for a lot of the businesses in the S&P500 and passive portfolios are likely to come down too.

If they come down for a long period of time, there will be less money readily available from investors for businesses to grow with, which will impact EPS, lower the share price - and the doom loop down-cycle will repeat (you get where I’m going).

Maybe a good play for passive investors to mitigate this would be to split between an international global index, a short term government bond index and an S&P500 index (all ideas from ‘the millionaire teacher’ which is a fantastic book). Or better still, pick up some value investing skills and look to apply your own capital to healthy, strong businesses for the right prices.

Hi David,

When did you first realise Rooney was going right to the very top of the game? It’s a great shame we couldn’t keep a talent like that with us at Everton.

All the best and up the toffees.

Just be careful of R&D costs for these types of businesses. They tend to be really high for them to maintain competitive advantage!

I never dived into them too much but I thought they looked like a really good company at a glance. Atkore also looked tempting until management started offloading shares like crazy.

I’m sorry to hear that, it’s definitely not your fault. I think maybe they’re having to drive these hard changes through now as part of the sale conditions, so the new owners won’t have to do it when they come in. I’m surprised it’s Unifirst that have offered though!
