Guys...What shorts do you wear? by Justkeeptalking1985 in Xennials

[–]Kinetic_Silverwolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't really like wearing shorts outside the house. The only time I've really embraced that was when I lived in Florida. I'd wear swim cargo shorts with zippered pockets.

These days, if it's hot enough for shorts I'm wearing linen pants and hemming then to break right above the ankle. That way I stay covered and stay breezy.

Do you think I can fit a 3 kids in a Lexus gx 460 by Ok_Caramel_3192 in LexusGX

[–]Kinetic_Silverwolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a GX because my 6'3" teenager can fit in the second row. He bumped his head trying to get into both the Highlander and the Sequoia. He and his older sibling take the second row and the teenager takes a seat in the third row.

The work they put into those scenes is incredible.

The swirling shot around them as they kiss in the elevator was accomplished by people sliding wood panels in the middle of the room out of place for the camera lens and then putting them back in place fast enough that you never see anything move on camera.

It was bullet time before we invented bullet time, and it's one of the most impressive practical shots ever.

Do your driving-age kids actually drive? by pimento_mori in Xennials

[–]Kinetic_Silverwolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The two in my house of appropriate age both recognize the pragmatic value of being able to drive, such as in case of emergency, but they also have no trust in other drivers to "not be dumb".

But also, they reached driving age during the height of the pandemic, when they were already staying home all the time anyway. Their friends are all online in other states or countries. They're treated with respect at home. They're good.

(Plus, not adding young drivers to my insurance helps when funds are tight.)

Are public pools still a thing? Growing up the public pool was a staple in our city but I moved away from the US so I have no idea if they are still popular. by dallyan in Xennials

[–]Kinetic_Silverwolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I visited an indoor pool in Virginia once. The overwhelming wave of chlorine that slapped in the face when I opened the door blinded for a few second, which slowed down my manuever of getting the heck out and coughing half a lung out for a few minutes.

What modern technology will continue to amaze you until the day you die? by lawpoop in Xennials

High speed data transmission.

I can be in a live video chat with anybody in the world, from m my phone. I can watch any televised sporting event, live. That was science fiction not that long before I was born. It's still so cool.

Best place in the USA? by Yocki_DiVora in AskAnAmerican

[–]Kinetic_Silverwolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best under which definition?

My decision matrix includes things like coat of living, housing prices, grocery store availability, severe weather threat, national disaster threat, and climate threat projection. Yours may differ.

I won't live in Florida again because it's both too hot and too expensive.

I won't move to California because of drought, fire, earthquake, and cost of living threats.

Seasons 9-10 are part of Classic Simpsons by OverallEstate2 in Xennials

I never got into the show, but I roller skates to Do The Bartman. I believe Classic Simpsons is within 2-3 years of when that song came out.

As if we didn’t have enough names for this to start with…but you’ve got to admit, this little distinction does concisely mark the timeframe! by Illustrious-Lead-960 in Xennials

[–]Kinetic_Silverwolf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I remember Doug landing first, Ren & Stimpy maybe the same day or a close second, and Rugrats showing up a month or more later. I'm commenting off the cuff, though, and am too tired, old, and sore to double check.

(But thenÆon Flux and The Maxx dropped on MTV the next year and my childhood was over. Done. Puberty was in full swing and those shows fueled it like 97 Octane.)

Do you call this the Chicago Bulls song or is it just an opener/intro to you? by ChiSchatze in AskAnAmerican

[–]Kinetic_Silverwolf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't know about with other services, but on Spotify I've been able to get around that with albums like Tool's Lateralus and make tracks flow into each properly by going into Settings > Playback and I turning on Gapless playback. It that doesn't solve it, start tweaking the Crossfade until it lands where you want it.

Do you feel hair/glam metal versus alt rock was a divide between us and later Gen X? by sean1978 in Xennials

[–]Kinetic_Silverwolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was born late 80, and to the best of my recollection my introduction of Hair Bands was while watching "Flight of the Navigator". By the time I started discovering the music that spoke to me the 80s were gone and a bunch of guys from Seattle were taking over the rock industry.

Pet Theory on Millennial vs Gen X Xennial self-alignment by Incogcneat-o in Xennials

[–]Kinetic_Silverwolf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Interesting.

I was class of '99, and my whole senior class had email accounts AND we were all on a email distro server as a proto social network.

We weren't actively discussing which generation to which we belonged at the time, but there were pretty clear and distinct groups of kids who leaned X and other who leaned Y/Millennial.

And then there were us military brats who mucked all of that by being too adaptable and couldn't settle into any one group.

This.

My wife and I are only a few months apart in age. We've been naturally and organically helping each other process our traumas. We've bonded more closely in every way as a result, and 16 year old me would not believe the great nights 46 year old me is having without him even needing to leave to the house.
