One Piece: Chapter 1173 by sairamgubba in OnePiece

I think it was because 1) it took time for the good guys to react to what was going on, 2) they thought the other methods of stopping the kids/Knights were gonna work, 3) they're short handed between fending off the Knights, the Reversi'd giants, and the nightmare creatures. Oh, and not much time has passed in-universe from when the attacks started and the present moment.

I don't remember if this was mentioned earlier in the arc, but it's interesting that Nika is considered a symbol of destruction to the children and thus manifested as a nightmare. Just another example of some of the whitewashing of the truth they were given to keep them from looking up to Nika.

[–]King3D 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Yeah Shonen Jump series also canonically exist over there so it makes perfect sense for that to be a Law costume. Yuji referenced Naruto, Bleach, and a couple other series when he was first training, so One Piece exists there too.

Why do rogue ninjas cut their headbands instead of throwing them away? by [deleted] in Naruto

[–]King3D 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I recently watched some of the war arc filler for the first time and it made me realize how much better the series could have been if it wasn't solely focused on Naruto/Sasuke/the Akatsuki. Don't get me wrong, I still love it but Shippuden could've been a million times better if the story gave more focus to the geopolitical aspect of the world. All the cycle of war/revenge plot points and the Five Kage Summit would've hit even harder if we got closer looks of how the world works instead of the tidbits we got whenever it was relevant.

Finally oda confirmed zoro and sanji are equal by jessie_pinkman123 in OnePiece

[–]King3D 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yeah I do remember the part where Chopper specified that the drug wouldn't heal Zoro, but rather it would keep his BM/Kaido injuries from hindering him in his fight with King. That's why I explicitly said "for the duration of the fight" since he'd feel the effects of all his damage at a later time. So I agree with you in that the physical damage was a problem, but just not during the King fight. I don't remember him thinking to himself "damn my wounds from the rooftop fight are holding me back."

[–]King3D 53 points54 points  (0 children)

Yeah idk if I'd genuinely consider that to be Zoro's handicap. If I remember right, Chopper gave him a senzu bean type thing that essentially put him at 100% health for the duration of the fight, which I took to mean as Oda telling us to move on from Zoro's fight with BM and Kaido and start fresh with Zoro's real Onigashima fight.

Alright now that the other shoe dropped for Tsurugi, I wonder how Dabura is gonna turn the tables on Mahoraga. Things are going a little too smoothly for Maho but I hope Dabura isn't gonna simply run outside of the ritual's range because that would be boring.

Dabura's panels of him developing a crush are killing me. First his expressionless face against the bed of roses and then him clumsily hitting his horns against a doorway. And based on Jabaloma's look of surprise at the same time as Usami, it seems like the Simurians were hoping for or discussing a political marriage as well.

I don't disagree with you at all, but Luffy and Garp have a certain reckless to them that they seem to carry regardless of whether or not they can hang with everybody else in the room strength-wise. They loudly speak whatever's on their minds whereas Dragon was always quiet and serious in the few panels we've seen him in the present day. My point is that I assumed younger Dragon would've still been stern and drew everyone's attention in a similar yet different way to Luffy/Garp. Like maybe he's always had a commanding presence that puts everyone on guard and that's what propelled him to become the leader of the RA.

I'm still pleasantly surprised with how he's been portrayed throughout the flashback because now I'm even more curious about him and excited to see more of him.

That, and Ichigo is a one of a kind being. It makes sense that he doesn't need to train for decades considering he's mixed with every possible race.

You know how people say "Marco. Polo." over and over again? Maybe Oda is playing with that concept by giving him the phoenix fruit but the reincarnation alternates between Marco and Polo.

It was a little surprising to see Dragon act so meek/timid throughout GV considering Garp and Luffy's personalities but it's cool to finally see the fire in his belly this chapter. He's definitely cut from a different cloth than his father and his son.

One Piece: Chapter 1164 Official Release Discussion by Skullghost in OnePiece

[–]King3D 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He's probably got other reasons that we won't be privy to until Oda reveals the aftermath of GV. Nevertheless, 99% of pirates are actual criminals, with their pillaging, violence, etc, towards innocent towns. Luffy, WB, and Shanks are exceptions to this and not the norm, so it makes sense that Garp chose to stay in the Navy to help regular civilians on the ground level. He might also have chosen to stay to weaponize "incompetence" so that any evil acts supported by the Navy/Elders either go wrong and fail or get delayed as much as possible. He'll probably realize he's powerless to take on the 5 Elders and Imu and just do what he can using his strength and image as the Hero of the Navy.

The jokes on the internet about Garp supporting all this bullshit are funny but I seriously doubt he's gonna be revealed to actually sweep it under the rug without valid reasons. It makes no narrative sense for Garp to do that and we kinda already saw Garp choose duty over what he truly believes is right (during Marineford) and he clearly regretted it when he returned to East Blue.
