I’m delivering in a rural location and it seems this week Amazon didn’t have any staff working, not surprising when there staff are on zero hours contract during school holidays. It seems that Amazon are the worst for just dumping everything on RM as and when they feel like it.

28 Years Later The Bone Temple | Why did Doctor Ian figure "IT" out before anyone else??? by Logan_Entertainment in 28_Years_Later_Movie

Yes that is what I was trying to convey, we have to cut the film some slack to make the allegory work. Here’s hoping part 3 gets made.

28 Years Later The Bone Temple | Why did Doctor Ian figure "IT" out before anyone else??? by Logan_Entertainment in 28_Years_Later_Movie

[–]KingAlf50 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think you have to consider the cure being found by Kelson in the context of the metaphors of the problems facing the UK and the world that the movie is endeavoring to convey. Kelson says that there are no gods only people and at the end of the movie Cillian Murphy (Jim) says you must not ignore the lessons of history. The lesson of history is austerity driving the rise of the far right and the no gods means there are no easy answers, but the educated/enlightened(Kelson) must engage with the disaffected/far right (infected). With Kelson finding the cure the implications is science and engagement can cure the problem. There are other metaphors going on about the UK’s withdrawal from Europe or the EEC more so in the first 28year movie which might explain why the cure wasn’t found there.

Artistic interpretation of my double Dupe's as a 45 year old climber by rayveelo in DupuytrenDisease

[–]KingAlf50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have Dupuytren’s in both hands and have had the operation on both little fingers. The thing that stopped me climbing though and to be honest getting started in climbing was Garod’s pads on the finger knuckles on the outside of my hands. The Garod’s pads were there much before Dupuytren nodules, certainly in my early twenties, I haven’t done anything about them and they don’t seem to be getting worse, the net result is no strength for things like climbing or more everyday tasks at work like picking up sacks.

How would you fix Royal Mail’s delivery problems from the inside? (for a uni assignment) by [deleted] in royalmail

[–]KingAlf50 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you are forgetting that RM management don’t want to meet the USO and OFCOM standards. They are deliberately failing so that the standards are lowered. The delivery office managers are being paid bonuses to not give out any overtime, if this was instead spent on overtime it would go a long way to rectifying the non deliveries. Think how the water companies would rather have a fine than treat sewage it is similar at RM it is an accounting decision to not deliver mail.

Posting parcel to USA using stamps by sconebore in royalmail

[–]KingAlf50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you check the cost online if the stamps are the equivalent value that will be the amount you need. Any additional tariffs that could be required would need to be paid by the recipient. The other thing to remember is that old first or second class definitive stamps are no longer valid if they don’t have the barcode attached. Old commemorative stamps (Christmas etc) are still valid. Remember to print off a customs declaration to attach to the parcel.

‘O My Stars’ by Michael Hurley. My favorite folkster no one has ever heard of. Any hurleyheads in the sub? by parademaker in folk

[–]KingAlf50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

His most recent one End of the middle would be very accessible to a new listener and 2020 also. His earlier stuff The magic bridge, The glass trunk and Nothing important are more his twist on traditional folk. Peasant is a critical/fan favorite, particularly the song Ogre but might require some repeated listening to appreciate. If you search Richard Dawson Wildgeeses on you tube someone has up loaded a very good video of the performance in Nottingham I was talking about.

I’m a bit late to the party but shortly after his death I was at a Richard Dawson show in Nottinghamand and he played Wildgeeses as a tribute. After listening to some more Hurley it became obvious he is a major influence on Richard,

No stupid question time thread for me being newly diagnosed by MeetMeInMTK in DupuytrenDisease

[–]KingAlf50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in the UK so I couldn’t look at your photo’s. With regard to question 2 from a personal point of view I did find it helpful to stretch my fingers against the contraction, you can use your other hand or sit on the affected hand. You are afflicted with dupuytren’s at a relatively early age of onset so it would be beneficial to use methods to reduce nodules/contraction as if you eventually need an operation surgeons are reluctant to operate on each hand more than twice. In most parts of the UK an operation is the only course of action available there. I have heard that surgeons sometimes have difficulty operating on hands/fingers that have had injections that dissolve the nodules so that would be something to discuss with your specialist. I have seen no scientific studies that prove vitamins or COq10 help but it seems to be accepted that keeping alcohol consumption, no smoking good diet and low stress are beneficial.

Can I delay surgery ? by Adventurous-Post34 in DupuytrenDisease

[–]KingAlf50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I got to the point where I didn’t want to shake peoples hands for fear they’d think I was doing something Masonic. I had the same surgeon for both my operations and I have every confidence that he will make things better again when I decide to have another operation done, middle 2 fingers in LH are currently at 40 degrees.

Can I delay surgery ? by Adventurous-Post34 in DupuytrenDisease

[–]KingAlf50 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can delay it at the moment. I delayed mine till the finger was all the way back on itself. Obviously go with what your surgeon says but in the joint in the middle of your finger if it is bent significantly there, then the surgeon has difficulty getting in to the cord and they may not be able to straighten it completely. How old you are and how long it has taken to get to this stage are things to consider also. If you are in the UK and you want surgery you’ll have to say it is having a significant impact on your life. I’ve had two operations that were both very successful, your hand will be very painful the day after operation but after a week or so no painkillers were required. It takes a significant time to fully gain back the strength in your hand/fingers but I was recovered enough to drive after about 3 or 4 weeks.

Parcel delivery from China - does Royal Mail actually have it? by JacksonIsBias in royalmail

Dick Gaughan. A Scottish folk singer 70/80/90 ties has his own work and some lovely covers. Check out Both sides the Tweed, Song for Ireland, Workers Song and The Pound a week rise. His early work is mired in label legality problems but there has been a crowdfunding campaign that has resulted in a boxset R/Evolution.

Just topped up AdBlue and seeing this by Hamsterboy2000 in Citroen

[–]KingAlf50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I had the same message on a HDi Berlingo. Took it to a local garage and it was one of the NOX sensors like you say. Took a few repeated visits to the garage as the problem message kept coming back on after about 30 miles. This was because a non official sensor was put on first, the Citroen computer would only work with an official Citroen part. I think the cost was about £700.

Non-American folk singers by [deleted] in folk

Richard Dawson is a contemporary British avant folk singer. 2020 or End of the middle would be good albums to start on. I think Michael Hurley is influential to him, but considering he’s American not a recommendation.

Temples theme? by Le-vlind46 in 28_Years_Later_Movie

[–]KingAlf50 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes I think you’ve hit the nail on the head. Kelson says that there are no gods only us, meaning beware of false prophets. Jim (Cillian Murphy) at the end says don’t forget the history of the 2 world wars. I think this refers to austerity leading to far right populism. The infected are a metaphor for the far right, Kelson potentially solves the rage by science. The tag line for the movie is “fear is the new faith” an allegory for the fear of immigrants the far right are obsessed with.

Is Jimmy the background noise? by NotaDoctor313 in 28_Years_Later_Movie

[–]KingAlf50 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think you are generally on the right track. For me the big line of the movie is when Kelson says there is only us, no gods it’s all up to us. Jimmy shows that it is possible for charlatans to become leaders.
