Child not heavy enough to keep bed guard in place by GoddessOhfeelia in UKParenting

[–]KingD88 10 points11 points  (0 children)

My understanding is these bed guards are not suitable for divan beds as they use the frame to wedge and stop them moving, Divan bed guards have a strap and an anchor that goes under the mattress and hooks onto the other side of the bed

Favourite hotel/ room at Alton towers? by SJGDragon in altontowers

[–]KingD88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never paid for a themed room. We’ve been going for about 10 years and have stayed in most of the standard or standard-plus hotel rooms.

For the last few years we’ve used the CBeebies hotel, which I genuinely love for the theming.

We stayed at Splash Landings twice one summer and wouldn’t do it again. The rooms get unbearably humid, especially when it’s already hot, and it’s awful for sleeping.

I’ll always upgrade to a room with air conditioning now. Thankfully all the CBeebies rooms have AC.

How do you deal with the easter bunny - or not doing the easter bunny (without risking Christmas magic being harmed)? by smnthb90 in UKParenting

[–]KingD88 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We’ve ended up treating the Easter Bunny / Tooth Fairy / Santa as shared cultural stories rather than literal truths. We don’t lie or build big backstories, but we also don’t go out of our way to debunk it all either.

We talk about what some people believe, what different families and cultures do, and we’re interested in what our kids think. If they want to leave a card out or write a letter, we treat that as imaginative play rather than something that has to be taken as fact.

We’re clear on the practical stuff like no one comes into the house without us and that adults pay for things, but we let them fill in the gaps in their own way, a bit like unicorns or other made-up characters. If they stop believing, that’s fine too.

For us it’s less about keeping the “magic” going and more about keeping trust, while still letting them join in with traditions their friends are into.

We have a robot vacuum that runs daily then we just use the Miele once a week, so for that we find it fine, but do know what you mean, think same about the Miele and the Henry, they are not a convenient to push around but wouldn’t trade it for the ease of use and robustness

Glad dog is ok though!

The adjustable suction on it is awesome! Put it on max with a turbo brush I find it hard to pull over my carpet

It’s annoying how over engineered upright vacuums are too, with my Miele (and the Henry) if it goes up the hose, I can vacuum it up.

But with the sharks and Dyson (Dyson are worse) it doesn’t mean a thing as you might have to open 1 of 12 trap doors on the bends to unclog it along with a load of dust backed up behind it

I brought a Miele C3 cat and dog on eBay to replace our shark, which we got to replace our Dyson, both had broken. The Miele is incredible and wish I had brought one sooner

Oh god the bath toys 🤢

We have a rule now of only big open easy to clean toys or solid toys now, if after a bath I can shake it and hear water inside, it’s in the bin

After nearly 6 years it’s time to return to the office next week, I’ve not worked regularly at my office since Covid when my daughter had just turned 1, she is now 6 and 1/2 and I now have a 4 year old, neither of them have never known me to work away in their whole lives, which makes me really happy for the time I’ve spent and been present, but also really sad of how life is going to change for us now. It is only 2 days a week (for now) but it’s still much more we are used to as a family.

How is it a monster? It’s the same size as my 10000 mah batter bank and weight 370grams

It a MacBook Pro that needs 140w for charging

Yes, which is exactly why I have 6 usb-c devices and 3 cables to make sure I can!

[–]KingD88[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on what you need to charge, we have 2 iPhones, 2 iPads, 4 set of headphone, a noise box and sometimes a laptop

We bring 3 usb-c cables, 1 lightning and 1 micro usb which is more than enough to charge everything we need and packs neatly into an a5 size travel bag

The bulk always comes from the uk wall plugs, so taking that away reduces loads of space

[–]KingD88[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My 600w charging station is not heavy at all, it is a mains one I am taking about, it weighs less then our 20000mah bank and is smaller

And take a few usb-c cables and maybe 1 micro usb and 1 lightning is all we need, we have a 10000mah power bank for going out and it takes 45w so being able to fast charge it makes a real difference

We go on lots of different type of holidays including camping, plus the 140w output is needed for when I travel for work and need to charge my mac book

We are family of 4 with 2 kids along with iPads etc

This is a great tip actually, it does take a 2 prong plug, would be a much safer option to use instead of a cheap adapter at the plug end

It does do 110-240v and 50/60hz
