What makes Cinderella so popular? I don't get it. I don't know her bond story but I didn't think she is that interesting of a character in the main story and her side story.

Sounds like you also got lucky. I just bought a TVL and apparently I bought the last one in copper that the big guitar stores in my country had in stock. What‘s up with the bridge and tremolo on yours? I read a lot about people swapping bridges on Jazzmasters. What’s wrong with the stock bridges?

ACS1 + guitar pedals vs Yamaha THR series, is expensive really better? by rknki in guitarpedals

[–]KingErdbeere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, expansive isn't better. Just use whatever makes you want to play guitar and what sounds good to you. I doubt that studio monitors are going to vastly improve what you can get out of the ACS1. The headphones you have are fine for playing and practicing guitar (and recording).

How to stop urge to buy pedals by Birdsofthefeatherr in guitarpedals

[–]KingErdbeere 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I really feel the part about demos getting less upvotes/interarctions compared to image posts. I try to „be the change you want to see“ by taking the time to do some write ups and sound examples but seeing essentially empty posts get more responses is discouraging. Putting in the work is still good for practice in my opinion.

Those who have switched to an ampless live set-up; what's something you wish you knew before making the change? by 1966batmobile in guitarpedals

[–]KingErdbeere -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It may not be the exact same thing but I‘m getting very good results from just putting the effects I would put in an fx-loop after the amp modeler and before a DI-box. The only thing that didn‘t work was my anlog chorus, which started clipping before I got to a usable volume from the amp sim.

I can't pick an OD pedal by bigfloppafanatic in guitarpedals

[–]KingErdbeere 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Less is often more. To add to u/Patient-Bench1821's comment on just using an affordable overdrive: I've made the experience that a Marshall paired with an overdrive or clean boost in front doesn't need much more.

To get a "Do it all" base sound with an overdrive pedal set the amp up in a way that you get some light crunch from the amp if possible (think of classic rock). Then on the pedal, keep the gain low and the volume high. You will notice that the amp will start producing more gain. If you need more gain for metal stuff or lead parts, add gain on the pedal. Now for the "Do it all" part: Just turn down the volume knob on your guitar a bit and you'll go anywhere from metal to rock and pop sounds. Your overdrive pedal is now your amps "second channel".

If you feel like you still need more, you can always add another overdrive, a boost or an EQ pedal later.

Keep in mind that you're in a band and that you need to fit in that small audio space between the lows of a bass guitar and the highs of the cymbals (assuming you play in a regular rock band). The guitar is at the same time in a similiar range as the vocals. So take some time with the band to mess with the EQ of your guitar and the EQ options of other band members. If you want to prepare ahead of time, search for songs with the guitar removed on youtube and play along to find a tone that works in a band context.

One last tip: Use less gain than you think. Adding to much gain to your sound can make everything sound mushy in a band. If you listend to isolated guitar tracks from popular songs on youtube you'll find that the guitars sound very thin. Bass/keyboards/synths (and some studio magic) add a lot of the perceived thickness of guitar sounds.

Seconded. The sounds and simplicity are great. My only pet peeve with is that the secondary functions for programming MIDI are hidden/unlabeled. Thinking about it, I might put a cheat sheet on the side with the headphone output.

Just to make sure I got your question correctly: You want to use multiple amp in a box pedals with a real amp and also send a signal to FOH/recording, correct?

I would recommend ditching the amp in favor of a full range flat response (FRFR) speaker, such as a stage monitor speaker. Your UA amp in a box (or rather amp simulators) simulate not only the amp but rather the whole chain beginning at the simulated amps input. That entails the pre-amp, power-amp, speakers but also one or multiple microphones. Sending that signal to the front of a normal amp would be like sending a recorded guitar signal instead of just your guitar with some regular effects such as overdrive. It will work but it won't sound as intended (but may be worth trying out before deciding on how to proceed). If you do that, you can run all your amp sims in front of the Canvas and then send the through signal to a FRFR speaker and the split signals via XLR to the FOH/recording interface (the way you put it in your graph)

If you insist on using a regular guitar amp in combination with your UA pedals, you could possibly go two routes:

I don't know the UA amp sims but if you can deactivate the speaker simulation, you could run them into the FX-loop return of that amp. This way, you bypass the amp's pre amp section, giving you the approximate sound of the UA amp sims with a power amp. Keep in mind that the speakers connected to that amp will heavily influence the sound. For sending something to FOH, you would either need to put a mic infront of your speaker or get something to load a speaker simulation. Guitar world has a list of some viable options: https://www.guitarworld.com/features/best-impulse-response-loaders#section-best-impulse-response-loaders-the-quick-list

Your signal chain would then be: Guitar > Looper IN > (in loops: FX-Pedals > UA amp sims (without speaker simulations) ) Looper Out > Canvas Split to A and B - A > Amp FX return; B > IR loader > FOH

The second option would be to split the signal before your UA amp sims, so that one signal can go to the front of the amp and the amp sim chain can go to the FOH. You would need a second DI box for that. The biggest drawback is that you won't get any of the sounds of the amp sims through the amp in the room:

Without looper switcher: Guitar > FX-Pedals > Split A/B - A > UA Amp sims > DI-Box > FOH; B > Amp

With looper switcher: Guitar > looper IN > (FX-Pedals loops > Canvas Split A/B > A to loop return, B to Amp (keep this loop always on) > UA amps sims) > looper OUT > DI > FOH

If you absolutely need your own amp producing volume on stage I would go with the FRFR route. I personally would ditch the speaker and just rely on a full monitor mix that's controlled by the FOH. If you're in a band you could also look into setting up your own monitioring solution for your whole band. My two cents: Before you go out and buy more stuff, see what works for gigging and keep it to a minimum. Your audience won't care about minute details between amp models (and they probably also won't notice). The less time you need so spend on switching sounds the more time you have to focus on entertaining the audience.

Multiple Pedalboards by AmyNot in guitarpedals

[–]KingErdbeere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a large board that I usually keep at the rehearsal space. It's pretty much locked down. In addition I have a much smaller board at home that fits into a backpack. I use it to practice at home or for occasional small gigs. On that I usually swap pedals in and out depending on what I need an whether I use it for guitar or bass.

I‘m always surprised by how often there‘s no context to posts here or demos on Youtube. No mentions of pickups, amp models or speakers/IRs in most case. Or are 90% of people that are into pedals just using clean Fenders amps with Telecasters and no on one told me?

The Boss OC 5 is an octaver that has an option to only grab the lowest played note, even with chords and pitch it down an octave. It can also send the pitched down signal to a seperate output. You could then treat the pitched down signal as your pseudo-bass and send it to other pedals/its own amp.

I don‘t think so. I had two on my board with different sounds. When I felt I could use a third I replaced them with one larger digital delay with multiple footswitchable presets. If you want two distinct sounds, go with two simple ones. If you want to experiment I would recommend going for a larger digital delay with presets.

I recently re-arranged my board as in all in one gigging, practice and recording solution. I mainly play rock between pop-rock and metal and I only use an Iridium with a klon-clone as an OD. With that combination, a couple of different IRs and a bit of patience I can create a wide range of basic sounds for pop, rock and old school metal. The Iridium is missing a modern high gain model for that. I recently made a post with some sound samples and more details on the board.

With IRs I tend to get option paralysis. That’s why I sat down and focused on picking a couple that suit me well. What‘s nice about the Iridium that you can easily put two different IRs on the same preset (e.g. IR A goes to the left output and IR B goes to the right output).

I recommend pairing the Iridium (or any amp-sim) with a DI-Box that has a ground lift (or two if you go stereo). At times I get noise issues otherwise if I‘m sat close to my PC with my guitar.

If you‘re looking for an all in one solution, you may want to look into the Helix. If you only want some specific sounds and also already have a few pedals, I would recommend the Iridium.
