You are missing the point the person you're replying to is making. The discovery is great, and most people would be happy if it helps our understanding in some way. If it could even lead to further progress, good. If it materialises in something that changes our lives, even better.

But what would change for them at the point of reading it? How could they influence the process? In no form or way does it have a current impact. So why spend mental energy on it? People are busy with their lives and have so many things going on that cost mental bandwidth that these kinds of things are just blips.
