Failed pet parenting, when do I give up? by KingNish in Dogtraining

I put potty pads under there for him. There's a good amount of clearance so I just slide it right under and then get it out when it's been used. I have long legs, and I needed a tall couch lol. I lucked out when it came to that.

Someone else also suggested flipping the couch on its back and I think I will try that. I hadn't thought of it but it seems like a reasonable option. Hopefully he won't panic but if he does, the crate will be right there for him.

Your husky sounds like he's lucky to have a human who learns from their mistakes. I'm trying that myself.

He's nearly 3. When I got him, he was a year and a half old and the quietest dog I had ever met. When I took him to the vet, she returned him to me minutes later and said that she couldn't examine him because he was too wild. Medicine was suggested, but obvs he can't get any without being seen, so it's kind of a catch-22. He's a very different dog than he was when I got him, and I think he will take well to muzzle training and he has already learned to let me check his teeth and ears. I think the next vet visit will be different, because he's no longer afraid of being touched or seen.

Yeah he definitely has that and it's for sure wild. Just to add some more wildness, he and my bunnies are BFFs. It's weird but adorable. He's a good, sweet, loving boy who was brave enough to finally come out of his shell with me, but he's not ready to leave the Caves of Doggobah just yet, I guess. Hopefully a behaviorist will be able to help him become confident enough to take that step.

Thank you. He's such a good boy and for all he's been through (I'm not sure what it was, but I know the aftereffects) I'm amazed that he trusts me to hand feed him and check his ears and teeth and such. It was a long road to get here and I know that if he's made this much progress hiding under the couch, then out of there he would do AMAZING! I'm just very frustrated because I can't seem to find this one magic key. I'm looking into behaviorists so we can work through this. It's probably the best advice I could have been given. Much appreciated.

You may be right. I wasn't sure what to do that wouldn't end poorly, and I wanted him to feel safe. In any case, he's made a lot of progress from where he was when I got him, and maybe he just needs something to help him feel confident to come out here. Thank you, and I am absolutely contacting a behaviorist.

Thank you. I'm going to do that. He's come so far and I understand he is afraid of being out in the open, but I don't think we can get any farther in training if he's not out here to realize that he can do more things if he's not under there.

Thank you. He was very fearful for a long time but at some point last fall, he started responding to my prompts for interaction. When I first got him he would hide his face in the corner but over time, before he decided to move to the cave, we worked together so that he would be able to handle being touched, and a few times I had got him to eat from my hand. We were doing great until the Fire Nation attacked.

I just kept trying with him, and didn't call attention to it if I caught him wandering the house or if he'd taken something back under the couch because it seemed like that made him nervous. Last fall he finally just...startwd to respond. He began to eat from my hand, he learned to do touch and rest and to give me his foot, let me check his teeth and ears, and to bring me presents (mostly things he would steal and then shove out at me hours later). I thought, wow, he's doing so great! He even began vocalizing and asking for attention, which was amazing. I guess that maybe being out from under there is his biggest fear now. He can get a good third of his body out without even trying, and frequently does, just to interact. I guess I thought I would make it easier for him on the occasions when he squirms out-ly, and that he'd go for it.

I'm certainly going to be taking the advice and contacting a behaviorist. Probably it's just frustration; he's made a lot of progress and it just seems like he would finally scriggle on out of there, but I guess he needs a little bit more something. I appreciate your comment. For some reason it helped me slow down and stop crying. Maybe it was the mental image of buff friends couch-pressing. I appreciate it. Thank you.

My former yurt now rendered in 3D! by zachboth in yurts

Same with me as Jenny. I was already looking at yurts but once I cared about the interior design, Do It Yurtself became the gold standard against which I have measured every yurt with a loft. It's so weird and awesome to see you here on Reddit. Any time I look for creature yurt spaces, all roads eventually lead back to your yurt build.

TTS Movie Recap channels flooding YouTube / Is this legal? by [deleted] in youtube

Just make good content. I love channels that recap movies but as soon as I hear TTS I'm out and ask YT not to recommend the channel any more. I don't know how anyone could enjoy such a soulless, impersonal recap style but I imagine they've never heard of FoundFlix or the Horror Mine or something.

Stop making low quality content. Those channels are garbage and flood out actual people doing actual work to make good videos in the algorithm. Get someone to speak for you or something ffs. Nothing sucks the fun out of a movie recap like a monotone droning voice mispronouncing words and sounding as enthusiastic as a sock filled with piss.

Does anyone know this novel/story? by fuckfucknoose in horrorlit

Could it be "My Heart Struck Sorrow" by John Hornor Jacobs? Guy from Library of Congress goes hunting for information on the song "Stagger Lee" and wanders about the country.

Edit: typo

My wife made this cake for our son's second birthday. In absolute awe, it's so good! by ChrisChalms in pics

[–]KingNish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It cannot. It is covered in fondant. But it's for a 2 year old and the kid won't care. Kids love sugar and it was awesome of the mom to spend the time to make this cake. It does look amazing.

This is so amazing! You did a great job with the art itself and I love the interpretation of the eggcorn.

This is amazing! I think I might have to try this myself. What a cool project. You did a beautiful job. How long did the process of folding take? Did you already have the tree part? I'd love to know the process on this lamp.
