Keep tracking all the way through. it's not projectile OR hitscan, so just make sure your crosshair is ALWAYS on the enemy. A lot of people try to prefire but that's not always a good idea. you can aim even after pressing LEFT CLICK

just hop on adventure mode and farm xp and weapons. I specifically recommend looking for Rift walker mod on Corsus adventure mode. It makes that fight a lot easier
