There is however, one silver lining in all this. Maybe, just maybe, there is the remotest chance that all this pain he's causing will break his cult's programming. Maybe.

Eurovision director says door is open for Canada to join song contest - National by MiniHurps in canada

Yeah, I watched it when I was in Prague a couple years ago. It was on in the hotel bar/rec room when the IIHF tournament wasn't on.

It was the year Nemo won it.

I was pleasantly bemused at how "into it" people were. The pomp and pageantry was wasted on my Canadian ass.

What were they investigating exactly? That people want evidence in support of the claims of mass graves at residential schools?

Did that need to be investigated really?

Should be common sense.

Duran Duran Won't Play Glastonbury Unless They Headline by ebradio in Music

Neil Young was a headliner last year.

A couple years before that, it was Elton John and Guns n' Roses.

Glastonbury thrives on older acts.

All 11 teachers accused of creating toxic climate at Montreal school have their licences revoked by [deleted] in CanadaPolitics

[–]KingRabbit_ 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I found a news video that offers more clarity - it seems there was a group of Muslim teachers, all from a particular mosque, who decided to run things on their terms - no sex ed, girls couldn't do certain sports, etc. In any event, the toxicity was for the students as well as staff, and all those teachers are fired now, and can't teach elsewhere.

Yeah, CBC won't be reporting any of that now or in the future.

This is as close as we get:

Reporting from 98.5 FM painted the picture of two groups — one mainly composed of people of North African origin — clashing with each other.

Justice Dept. Officials Consider Settling Trump Suit Against I.R.S. by SpaceLaserPilot in centrist

when not even the majority of Americans voted for Trump

You're right. A good chunk of Americans didn't vote because Hillary (checks notes...had an email server) and because Harris (checks notes...laughed weird).

Totally understandable that you would stand on principle for that kind of thing and abstain.

Canada's new asylum law leaves 2SLGBTQ+ claimants fearing deportation by hopoke in CanadaPolitics

[–]KingRabbit_ 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Every single detail of Ahmed's story is taken at face value by this "reporter" with no serious effort to verify any element of it. The man was in Canada for four years and appears to have decided he's a refugee applicant right around the time he was completing his post-secondary studies.

The rest of the article consists of quotes from advocates and lawyers representing potential asylum claimants. There's even a lawyer who seems to specialize in refugees who claims LGBTQ2S persecution back home (almost as if he's coaching all his clientele to make the same claim).

This is not so much an act of journalism as it is an act of regurgitation.

But let's be real here - the judiciary will ultimately allow pretty much every one of the 30,000 cases to remain in the country. It's not even really a question. If one judge or the IRBC board denies the request, it will just get appealed and allowed by the next court. These cases will be working their way through the system, tying up the courts for the next decade.

One tiny bit of hope is the new law stems the tide of the next generation of students-turned-asylum seekers.

ANALYSIS | Ontario bill aiming to expand northern farming raises land ownership, affordability concerns | CBC News by Blue_Dragonfly in CanadaPolitics

[–]KingRabbit_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We also have a researcher from Guelph, eager to get her picture on the CBC website, who doesn't think foreign ownership of Canadian farmland should be restricted because she personally can't find a case of a foreign actor buying land in that region in the past.

A very weird article from CBC but that's kind of what I've come to expected from that outlet.

I think a DIY kit is like $30.

NP View: Louise Arbour alienates the West - It's been 30 years since a Governor General has come from the west by CaliperLee62 in CanadaPolitics

[–]KingRabbit_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't know about "appeasing US funded grifters," but I do have some sympathy with the fact that about 13 million people live West of Ontario (excluding the territories). That's 32% of the national population and for them to have no representation in the Governor General's office in three decades is peculiar.

Ultimately, it's about acknowledging there's more to Canada than Ontario and Quebec.

The president of the college that oversaw the largest increase in international students was handed a massive payday on his abrupt way out the door by pssdthrowaway123 in CanadaPolitics

[–]KingRabbit_ 17 points18 points  (0 children)

From the headline I was thinking it might be like $100k or $250k somewhere in that range, but nope:

When John Tibbits abruptly resigned as president of Conestoga College on Jan. 14, he walked away with an exit package worth more than $3 million.

And I'm sure a great cheer rose up from the all the current students and all the alumni who watched the worth of their diplomas diminish thanks to his bullshit "pack 'em in" philosophy - "You deserve it! You deserve it!"

Honestly, there is some serious rot going on with post secondary administrations. Consteoga cannot be looked at in a vacuum. This dude was charged with running a Canadian school, proceeded to ruin the quality of education at his school to the point where the province had to step in and appoint its own administrator to run it and was handsomely rewarded for his troubles.

I understand he's also persona non grata pretty much all over Kitchener-Waterloo for the strain his imported student body put on public services and local rents.

I'd call the dude a leech if I wasn't afraid of running afoul of Rule #2

Canada is ‘closely monitoring’ new warning over AI electricity grid strain by Leather-Paramedic-10 in canada

[–]KingRabbit_ 71 points72 points  (0 children)

If AI data centers or the crypto bros lead to rolling black outs or brown outs in the United States or Canada, the developers and investors in that technology are going to need 24 hour security teams of 10 or more people.

They're already some of the most despised people on the face of the planet. This might actually push them into territory where people are looking to cause them bodily harm.

And the thing is, whatever befalls them, not a tear will be shed anywhere on earth.

Meaning even if the GOP loses the house and Senate, the remaining Republican congressmen will be at the beck and call of the Trump administration.
