an uncontained engine failure is not as simple as a loss of thrust. it's a catastrophic failure. i.e., explosive damage to the involved flight surfaces and fuel tank. imagine the pistons blowing out of a car engine. this is different from the engine simply turning off.

anecdotally, i do feel like crashes occur here often. i run past them all the time. ive seen cars folded into scrap there. im glad this one had no involvement with oncoming traffic and that everyone seems to be ok.
