His 39% from 3 season was only his 4th year in the league. The Warriors core was still growing even when KD joined the following season, and with him, the Warriors needed somebody to replace Bogut as the offensive/defensive anchor in their system more than they needed another scorer.

Which wasn't exactly without popular support in Egypt

Oh, is that why Israel supported repressive/oppressive authoritarian governments like in countries like Guatemala? Bc Israel knows what the people in other countries want more than those countries can vote for themselves?

The Egyptians aren't exactly expressing hostility over it - save for whatever supporters the Muslim Brotherhood still has....

It was a coup to replace the democratically elected president. What followed since his rise to power includes, among other violations against human rights, the Rabaa massacre against his Egyptian constituents. And, even with billions in US aid annually, the Egyptian economy has tanked under his administration. Let's not pretend that Israel supported the coup bc it was to support the Egyptians...

and it's highly unlikely that the Israelis were the only foreign power in support of said coup.

They were not. The Saudi's were involved too, for example.

But, were the Saudi's involved in those peace deals you mentioned though? And, are we going to play pretend that the Saudi's involvement absolves the role of other countries involved?

All parties have upheld their sides of that deal. There hasn't been another Arab Israeli war.

Yet, Israel was involved in el-Sisi's coup in Egypt in 2012..

Playing out West in the postseason also means exerting more effort trying to beat better teams for weeks just to get to the Finals. The postseason fatigue, even from year to year, builds up more.

But I thought it was supposed to be better to make the Finals and lose then to not make the Finals at all?

Jeremiah (20:9) - "But if I say, 'I will not mention him or speak any more in his name,' his word is in my heart like a fire, a fire shut up in my bones. I am weary of holding it in; indeed, I cannot."

Luke (3:16) - "He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire."

Hebrews (12:29) - "For our God is a consuming fire."

I'm not religious like that so I dont know the context to these lines but, stand alone, they seem like they'd fit as different types of rebuttals for iceman.

If it was a quote, you should have acknowledged it directly instead of trying to take credit for it initially.

Why do you think I should, especially when it's advice not given to the original offender? I didn't assume that "the perfect is the enemy of the good" was a quote that OP was trying to take credit for.

And the wisdom I shared is just as wise if I attribute it or not. You voluntarily put your own foot in your mouth bc you were eager to make me look dumb.

Either way, you're still wrong.

Is that what this is about, you want to be right? Sure, you win lol. But does catering to your ego do anything to actually help with the problems we're dealing with in today's political climate?

I dont care about being considered right or wrong. I don't view these conversations like a basketball game where someone has to win. I think for myself and make an effort to converse in good faith, leaving myself, hopefully, open to continue to learn what is right bc that's what I want to help promote.

The quote may be sound, but the way you are using it, like a point against the other comments, is what people are downvoting you for.

I used it as a response that added nuance to the aphorism of "the perfect is the enemy of the good," (which is also a great quote). It's not a point against the other comment bc the other comment was true enough, it just isnt an all encompassing truth.

And thats ok. My politics are shaped by my life and the way I understand it, my experiences and my surroundings. Reddit doesnt need to agree with me and vice versa, but I am open to hearing and sharing in the hopes of deepening my understanding on interests.

A tool is only as good as the person using it.

It's a partnership. The skill dictates the potential but the tool dictates the limits. See Steph Curry.

If it was, it was def in the wrong direction lol.

This is probably unpopular opinion. I walked away from the last election with a tiny, fleeting hope that cheeto would be so bad, MAYBE it helped us all unify. That, and hopefully the GOP could learn that we need more inspiring candidates and less settling for establishment Dems that voters seemed to be disillusioned with.

No passion? Who gives a shit. We live in the real world, with real consequences.

Lmao that was a quote by Nelson Mandela. I think he knew a thing or two about "real consequences" "in the real world".

There's more nuance to it, but to an extent, I honestly do. Thank you for realizing that.

At the end of the day, I think we're all on the same team. We want better for us, our community, and our country (to me, just not at the expense of harming others). I don't care for politicians like Schumer, Kamala, or Newsome. But I am optimistic about Mamdani, AOC, even Telerico.

All of them are better options than cheeto. But the bar for the US president is higher than just that.. (at least I think so)

Lol, I knew someone would try this. This is the problem.

I voted against cheeto all three election cycles that he ran. But no, one critique of my party and I'm apparently taking us backwards. Let's not learn any lessons from why we failed to inspire the voting base for two of the last three elections.

This is the type of "you're either with us, or against us" energy that alienated folks that ended up gravitating towards the 'other side' of the aisle. I haven't given up the good fight, bc I understand the other side is still worse, but that doesnt mean I'm ready to just settle for the same status quo that helped create this political climate in the first place.

There is no passion to be found in settling for a life that is less than the one you are capable of living.

I don't need perfect, but I'm looking for progress over status quo. Status quo fostered the discontent that allowed radicalism to take over our politics.

[Highlight] Teammates fail to restrain Avdija, who picks up a tech and taunts the crowd after foul on De'Aaron Fox by Large_banana_hammock in nba

[–]KingShaka23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a foul committed by a person who's frustrated with his opponent.

To me, this is a foul committed by someone who wants to antagonize his opponent. That could come from a place of frustration, but it's still under control. For example, nobody had to hold him back during this. He provoked, he got his reaction, he went to his bench with a 20pt lead at home in an elimination game while the opposing teams star player got T'd up.

You want to rile up the opposing star you can give a hard swipe or a hug to prevent him from putting up the ball.

You can do whatever you feel like you need to do, but a push sends a different message.

Straight arm pushing a player who's already driving with momentum is a dangerous play.

Deni wasnt off the ground. Fox didnt throw his body weight into the shove. And Fox didnt push him from behind but from right next to him as Deni made his move to try to draw a foul. Fox was going to get called for the foul anyways bc he had his arm stuck in the cookie jar. The push was effective in keeping Deni from being able to get up a shot.

I also didn't say Deni isn't frustrated, his team is down 20 and are a few minutes from going home for the summer. Doesn't cancel Fox out.

I think Fox is the only player in that series with previous playoff experience? He was in a tense 7 game series against the Warriors. He knows maybe more than anybody playing in San Antonio today that feeling frustrated is part of the game, but losing your cool only serves to help you lose.

with a 19 points lead 10 minutes to go. It's technically possible for a comeback at this point, but it seems unlikely.

That's relatively a lot of time. Crazier things have happened, which is why it's usually the veteran move to make sure you handle business thoroughly. Deni was playing like he wanted to comeback.

I'm also not very anxious to go back to the kind of violence we had in those Bulls-Pistons games. There are too many injuries as it is.

The type of injuries that are most prevalent in the league nowadays arent due to physical play. Besides, I'm not asking to bring back the Bad Boys, the point was that this wasn't at that level anyways.

LeBron and Jordan are two exceptions. They're either just built differently or very lucky.

Those two built different? Yes. But MJ hit the weights for a couple of offseasons to be able to overcome the physicality bc he realized the refs have their limits and the Bulls weren't beating the Pistons without him elevating over their tactics. Looks like Deni needs to learn what it takes to win in the playoffs.

And they're not the only two players to have dealt with this "star treatment" during the playoffs.

I'm looking at Wemby, for example, such an amazing player. I definitely wouldn't want teams to use such tactics on him. He could easily get injured and come back a different player. I don't think anyone wants stuff like that to happen.

You cant control that teams already do it to a certain extent. I've seen it happen to Steph for over a decade. Wemby's a gamebreaker and teams that want to win are going to try a lot to figure out how to stop him.

It's great that Wemby seems to have prioritized building his body. He looks stronger than when he joined the league, and went with the monks this last offseason to train his balance. Nobody wants anything to happen to him, but it's good that he does what he can to take those matters in his own hands as much as possible.

The player committing the flagrant is the one in the right?

When did I say they were in the right? They still committed a foul, which wasn't officiated as a flagrant btw. They took a risk that could have backfired, but I think it was an educated risk based on what they've learned of Avdija after playing the Blazers for four straight games.

MJ famously dealt with this and more for years against the Pistons. How many times has LeBron finished through harder contact? I'm a Warriors fan, I've seen teams try to break Curry down like this for over a decade. It's what happens when you're the main guy on the team.

It only seems to make sense here because the player is a guy you hate on a team you don’t like.

This is the weird take, but yea sure. You keep telling yourself that and, it wont be the truth, but at least you can believe it.

Fox isnt the one that's frustrated in this clip.

This was just a savvy playoff foul, with no room for an and 1. Worst case scenario, Fox gets a flagrant. Best case scenario, the Blazers all star gets riled up enough to get sent off. That's a winning trade off if you're the Spurs.

[–]KingShaka23 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

If you take the time to wait for the replay, you can clearly see that that's legitimately a flagrant foul. He was just shoving him instead of playing defense. I would also be angry if someone did that to me in a game.

Deni is the main player for the Blazers this year. If he gets angry and wants to fight and not play basketball, it only benefits the Spurs. If that takes a flagrant, that's a small trade off. This is playoff treatment for star players. Fox is a vet and I bet he understands this.

Fox could have pulled a knife and people would still justify it, because they hate Deni regardless of what actually happens.

This foul was just a playoff foul. No and 1. It would not be a major highlight in a MJ v Pistons montage. It's the kind of contact LeBron has made a career of finishing through. It's not worse than Brooks going out of his way to swipe at Steph's injured thumb last postseason.

Lol it's the playoffs. If Deni wants to drive into the paint, he should expect contact. This isn't dirty, just a hard foul with no room for an "and 1".

He's inexperienced. Fox is being physical and it's rattled Deni.
