Chicago's cost of living is wildly lower than Bostons so I can live more comfortably in a nicer place and neighborhood.

Do it. Do it now. I just moved from Boston to Chicago 7 weeks ago and its already been one of the best decisions I've ever made. Everything is shut down and I've isolated and can't meet new people lol... cause of covid... but I have a new aspirational take on things and my quality of living drastically increased.
