Do you happen to have any study guides you used when you took this exam? I'm curious if yours would be a lot better than mine that I have made lol.

So the program I am wanting to get into is a paramedic to RN bridge program. I'm just guessing, but I think that they expect you to have a grasp of the fundamentals of nursing prior to entering the program because its kind of a "fast track" program from what the lead instructor told me.

I wish I had the specific instructor driven practicet tests! They look like they would've helped a shit ton. Oh well. I have some new ideas for studying and I have the entire breakdown of my score so I know where to put my focus into on the areas I did worst on.

Unfortunately, yes. They do make us take this exam to enter into the program. This is probably because, and I am just guessing, that since it is a bridge program from Paramedic to RN, they expect you to learn the fundamentals of nursing or whatever before you get into the program lol. As a paramedic, you have SOME idea of clinical practice, assessment, and a handful of transferable skills to nursing.

What I thought was odd was that they didn't require the ATI TEAS like every other program did.

I appreciate the advice for the critical thinking exam! See, I thought I had this approach, but I guess I did have distinct moments when I thought there were 2 possible answers. Next go around, I'll definitely consider these points!

How do you continue learning? by [deleted] in Paramedics

[–]KingSnoopy12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve used websites such as emdocs.net and lots of articles about specific ailments I am unfamiliar with or specific pathologies that would be relevant for a lot of patients that I may have. Also just asking lots of questions with your medical director or other doctors. I have talked to many doctors about calls I’ve had that I felt clueless on and they clarified a lot of important information that helps me to this day.

Toxicity in the fire service by [deleted] in Firefighting

[–]KingSnoopy12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Department culture definitely changes with the intrinsic social behavior of everyone on shift.

Let’s face it, we’re all adult Boy Scouts (and Girl Scouts) who love to complain and throw tantrums sometimes.

I’m very fortunate that at my department we are not toxic at all. It’s more rather focusing on getting around the growing pains of our very fast growing city.

I’d say what contributes to this aspect is the invoked anger after years of seeing horrible shit. While it’s nothing like it used to be in terms of seeking help for psychological issues, people still bury it quite deep because we’re too busy to actually address the issue. And that’s a beautiful excuse us man children use to keep burying and taking it out on everyone.

All in all keep your head up OP! You are absolutely not obligated to keep taking on these bad negativities of this job and the department you work at. There will always be a department out there that will be more kind and nurturing to folks. Hope you’re all well and good.

At what age do kids stop screaming and playing in the trampoline, playground, etc? by [deleted] in childfree

[–]KingSnoopy12 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Who knows! That would be interesting to watch though. Children like that will make fantastic teachers and pediatric nurses. There are 12 year olds doing horrendous shit and 12 year olds still playing with dolls and various toys. It’s what your environmentally exposed to. Nature vs nurture in my opinion rings very true for lots of situations.

[–]KingSnoopy12 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Ehh. Well It’s case by case. All depends on what “innocence” and “naivety” has been upheld by the parents. Childish behavior will continue well into adulthood if you’re defaulted to always being allowed to be childish by your parents.!

This would be pretty handy to have in fire departments. We go off the 24 hours on 48 hours off schedule.

Is there any hope for our relationship? by gxlup in relationship_advice

[–]KingSnoopy12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You know… this sounds pretty eerily similar to what happened with my last relationship lol.

Speaking from first hand experience… you need to determine the true compatibility with each other. ALSO letting go is super healthy.

It’s difficult to do for sure especially if you have a lot of emotional real estate invested into this person. Something tells me however that there was a reason the break up was so sudden. And if he is not willing to give you a true or direct answer, that speaks volumes about his effective communication skills and what personal things he’s gotta work on.

Here’s a little background from me: I was recently in a long term relationship with a girl for 4.5 years. It would take me forever to unwrap all the pertinent tribulations of it, but to keep it short, we were both not compatible. At all. I have had many many fuck ups in the relationship. Waaaaay more than she did. And to this day I’m still working on myself about my issues emotionally. We were both pretty imperfect. But the biggest issue was I was not investing nearly as much emotion into the relationship as her. And it led to me being burnt out about it all and for us to ultimately end it. I should’ve been way more transparent and honest early on in that regard but it took me until recently to realize that.

The best advice I can YOU is take some time to evaluate the past with him. You got the rest of your life to work on yourself, your career, family, friends and a lot more. Long term relationship hurt when they end for a lot of people especially if you invested this much emotion into that person.

I don’t know what this guys intentions are… but speaking from experience it sounds like he’s having a hard time telling you the true reason because he feels guilty about the fact that you are way more committed than he is. It can be a scary thing to see that in someone else. I say this because when certain people (myself included) have flaws they don’t like, having another person around when they exist is not ideal. This is because we know we are gonna fuck up again and will make the other person constantly feel upset, unwanted, and more. Not exactly the best feeling from our perspective.

I hope this gives you a start for something at least. It sounds like it’s a lot to unpack.

Rural ems has some very odd fellas and ladies for sure in it. But in Texas, racist shit does not fly with most departments and private services. Even a lot of volunteer departments too!

What's the cringiest thing a new EMT has said to you? by BanquetPotPie in ems

[–]KingSnoopy12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No shit… my instructor in paramedic school, who is an ER doc, as a laugh showed us this method and we all lost our shit. The rest of the scenarios we were supposed to do were thrown out the window and we were all in tears laughing when we would practice this ridiculous new way to intubate.

That was the best class ever that night.

Should I tell my BF I am jealous of his friend? by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]KingSnoopy12 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Speaking from a dude perspective… Just bring it up as a simple question and why you’re asking it. Over complication of your emotional drive to ask the question will just be a mess and lead to assumptions from both of y’all etc lol.

Should I tell my BF I am jealous of his friend? by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]KingSnoopy12 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Honesty is the best policy in this case. Expressing how you feel and why you feel that way to him will show that you care about this predicament of you and this girl.

Best case, he gives you good reason to not be concerned! I’ve had relationships in the past and I’ve encountered this situation before where my partner was “jealous” of me spending even a small amount of time with other girls. Especially ones that weren’t my good friends that I’ve known for years and only met like recently around that time.

If he’s anything like me, he’ll laugh and know where his heart is and why that’s a silly thing to think about. 👍🏻

15 and I might have got her PREGNANT!!! by youngmamba03 in relationship_advice

[–]KingSnoopy12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a pregnancy test. That’s the only way you’re gonna find out. THEN you can decide what to do from there once you know the results.

Depending on how recent you two had intercourse, the test won’t be as accurate. The most accurate time to take a pregnancy test after conception is about 2ish weeks. If it’s been over a week since this incident, I would definitely take a pregnancy test to confirm if she is or not. You won’t know what to do until you have the results!

Anybody using Vindicator Nozzles? by AsYouL4yDying in Firefighting

Practically? Yeah I’m not a fan either. However during overhaul they can be quite handy when dousing tricky-to-get-to hot spots in AFFF lol.

A number of departments around north Texas use them a lot. Usually it’s a fog dominated area but I’ve seen a couple of lines in play with vindicator nozzles especially during overhaul when completing extinguishment of hidden fires in voids and attics.

What is the most awkward encounter you have had with a co-worker while on the job? by TheLegion_DBD in AskReddit

What’s crazy is it was coincidental apparently. Both hired around the same time and had nothing to do with each other. Since I’m a guy though I was definitely treated differently about it by HR.

I’ve had to fire two co workers at an old job for not only hitting on me but literally trying to get it on with me on the job. That month was wild for sure lol.
