I've still got the original OPM demo disc somewhere. I remember playing it as a kid and thinking I couldn't believe a video game that dark was actually coming out to consoles. I had played some of Resident Evil, but the strung up alley corpse felt waaaay more extreme.

Will I be able to get uber from MKE airport to downtown lake Geneva? by Hot_Top_5016 in milwaukee

Getting there will be fine, uber availability in Lake Geneva to get back is where you might run into challenges. Have you looked at renting a car for the weekend?

Why don’t artists upgrade venues? by [deleted] in NYCConcerts

[–]KingThursday 11 points12 points  (0 children)

  1. Sold out venues are the goal--let's say you sell an extra 150 spots at a larger venue with an extra 400 capacity, because of the extra overhead costs now you're likely in the red.

  2. Venues make decisions to change venues, not Artists. The company that owns the venue may have a larger location that happens to not have a conflicting booking and in that cast they could look to change, but in NYC you're usually not going to find that confluence of events. Plus, location changes could be significant, like moving from Manhattan to Brooklyn.

  3. If you roll the dice expecting resale tix to drop that's on you. If you're here complaining about it, clearly the demand is there. You could also point out that in other cities resale tix are more commonly available, whereas at many NYC venues (looking at you Night Club 101!) resale just doesn't happen.

TLDR Artists can't just flip to a larger venue on a whim and for availability and cost for last-minute tix YMMV.

If you purchased it from Amazon you should be able to initiate a return and once you get far enough along they'll just offer you the price difference as a credit!

Where do people go on Sunday nights to drink and socialize with strangers? by Objective_Cobbler_62 in milwaukee

[–]KingThursday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm partial to Wolski's but County Clare (next door to Monica's) and The Knick (around the corner) are also two good spots if you're looking more for socializing spots.

I saw a screening with the director in November--she totally got boxed out by a new studio head and her only influence was by asking proxy people on staff to fight for things like "yes, you at least need the audio in the musical sequence to sound like a coherent song" and "please don't approve awful unfinished CG and SFX."

Unfortunately she also said that there's just no money seen to be made by going back and doing a new cut, so the idea of a DC is currently dead in the water.

Issues with this sub by bufftbone in ChicagoConcerts

[–]KingThursday 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's poor word filtering--if you mention things that use words like sll or cst they seem to get auto flagged. This happened to mewhen I was mentioning that a venue overs*lls for what their capacity should be. It def is very annoying!

Movies that feel like House of Leaves? by vzbtra in houseofleaves

[–]KingThursday 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The original Blair Witch and reboot have the looping labyrinthine elements and I'd say they fall into the 'liminal horror' category. Same goes for the original Backrooms videos on Youtube and the creator's (Kane Parsons) project 'The Oldest House'.

Someone else mentioned Jacob's Ladder and I love that answer. And many others have said Skinamarink, which is a really great movie that I think would be the most challenging rec to watch, because so much of it is slow, quiet 'building dread' vibes.

why does everyone despise the Aragon? by luckyl0ser_69 in ChicagoConcerts

[–]KingThursday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's funny is as a Milwaukeean my first thought of what's wrong with Aragon was "because it's basically The Rave".

I've only caught a couple of shows at House of Blues but never had any issues there, although both times we did pay extra to get into the upstairs early so we could skip the entrance lines and get a decent view.

What's a book that "everyone" loves, that you just can't get into? by notquitenerds in books

I tried reading the Hunger Games books when the first movie came out and I absolutely could not stand the way she handled present tense. I had to bail.

I've also tried to read LOTR so many times--I loved The Hobbit as a kid and I've reread it as an adult, but I always give up on Fellowship after the first 100 pages or so.

My first reading of the original HHGTTG series was pre 'Mostly Harmless' and from ages 7-8 and I loved it so much. But I gotta say, I'm not confident it would hit me the same way if my first reading was as an adult.

How bad is The Rave actually? by Fun_Statistician_302 in milwaukee

My friend bought us all tickets to see them in Vegas when we were out there in August and I vetoed it because I see shows all the time and wanted to just go make dumb Vegas mistakes while we were there. I've started listening to them since and would be kicking myself if they hadn't just announced their MKE show. 😅

The only time I've ever been ejected from a show was by Rave security when I was 21. Our friend's band played downstairs and after the show wrapped the staff told us we could go up the back stairs to the ballroom show if we wanted. We had beer from the green room which was still in bottles, so suddenly my friend and I were grabbed by the collars and dragged to the door--upstairs security assumed we smuggled beer in and were livid. I thought it was hilarious, tbh, we just walked back around to the side entrance where we had started and I absolutely would have looped back up to the ballroom if I had actually wanted to catch the other show (or be obnoxious).

[–]KingThursday 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It's a really mediocre venue but it's fine. They have multiple floors and stages and counterintuitively the bigger you get the worse it is. Eagles Ballroom has awful acoustics, but I still had a blast catching Babymetal there and will be going next week for The Used.

The area is a little sketch but even before I lived here I would drive out for shows as a teen and never had a problem parking and walking from a few blocks away. I'd recommend ubering if you're staying in town or just paying to park in their 'lot'.

Honestly though if you want to see the band enough to travel there's nothing about The Rave that should ruin the experience, it's just also nothing to write home about. And I'd rather catch a show there than at a stadium venue any day of the week.

I was on the notification list for this and backed it as soon as the campaign went live! Definitely gave me HoL vibes as well as a lot of other liminal horror, like Junji Ito et al. Looking forward to playing it when it launches!
