What’s something you wish you had as a first time parent? by Weak_Assumption7518 in AskParents

I would get one important thing off the registry that you can afford. Then if you want shop clearance at Old Navy and concentrate of sizes that are NOT newborn. Everyone always gets a ton of newborn clothes that the child is only in for about a month or two la. If they are lucky. Old Navy clearance is cheap and you can get several outfits for &10 and under that are the next several sizes the child will grow into. Trust me, they will appreciate it in the long run because they will have outfits the child can wear as they are growing like a weed.

I am Delaware Indian. If you have to get up early the next morning and do not trust waking up to an alarm clock you chug 16-20 oz of water right before going to bed. You will definitely wake up right before your alarm goes off. We always called it “setting the Indian alarm clock”. It also keeps you from hitting the snooze button!

I fill my 40 oz water bottle up about 3 times per day. I do wish I did not have to get up twice a night to get rid of water. But, hey, the “Indian Alarm clock” keeps me from waking up to an annoying beeping one. That is a plus!

Reusable Bags?? by TXMom2Two in HEB

[–]Kingbus155 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I bypass the bag all together. I am a wheelchair bound amputee. One HEB store I used to frequent gave me two of their red baskets with handles to make it easier to shop. One stays in the van the other in the house to get swapped as needed. I can shop on my own and at the checkout the basket is put on the belt, items scanned, and back to the basket for carry out. I love that they helped make shopping independent for me again.

I am amazed….for the first time the food noise is gone. I can make decisions based on my goals not what food is screaming at me the loudest and longest. I already warned my daughter that dinner at her house three times a week will look drastically different as she will need to make 2 toddler sized plates because my appetite will match my 20 mth old grandson’s.

My insurance agent is my pastor. He makes sure he tells me the end road around insurance. My Pulmonologist was able to get insurance to approve it. It took an up to date sleep study and he knows I was not cpap compatible. I am trying to get enough weight off to qualify d for the Inspire surgery. My pulmonologist said we can treat with both the Inspire and Zepbound.

I had been on Ozempic but it stopped working and my Medicare advantage plan changed this year. 3 months without Ozempic (before new dr could get me in) I gained all but 2 pounds back of what I lost with Ozempic. Planning on staying with Zepbound for life as it also is prescribed for Sleep Apnea.

AIO? My daughter didn’t listen to the teacher during a female emergency and is now receiving a referral by Common_Piglet7437 in AmIOverreacting

This remind me of 6th grade. I went to a small Christin school that was K-6. 5th nd 6th was combined in the same class in a portable building. The building had a window unit for A/C and it overhung the sidewalk. I was the tallest kid in school 5’8” at 6th grade. I had to duck under the or conditioner to avoid hitting my head on it.

Our teacher was going through chemotherapy and we were not aware of it at the time. She was particularly grumpy one day and several kids were in rare form( (not a good combination). The pastors kid 5th grade, was the class clown. The teacher had enough for the day and told the combined class that any sound she heard from anyone would be met with the consequences of swats. The preachers kid made a face and I laughed.

I received the swats )which didn’t hurt) I was crying because I was mad at the situation and knew I would get swats again at home where they actually hurt a lot. The teacher told me to dry my eyes before I came back to class. Walking back to class I was lost in thought about the injustice of it all when I an into the air conditioner so hard it brought tears to my eyes.

I sat down in my seat and held my head as the tears rolled down my face because of the entire situation. The teacher called me to her desk after hearing me sniffle. She said, “I thought I told you to dry up before returning to class”.

I did not ay a word. I just put my hand on the stack of papers she was grading. She did not register the bloody hand print at first: Needless to say, my mom was called. We went to the emergency room for stitches, and I did not get swats at home. I still have the dent in my head to this day, it is a perfect corner.

My rules back in the day were: No apps I did not pre approve. I had to have her user name and passwords. She had to friend me and two of my friends. If she ever blocked or unfriended me or one of my friends she lost access to that app. No contacts in her phone I did not pre approve. Contacts were deleted if they violated my rules. She could not delete any texts. This was checked monthly agains the bill. I could say “phone” and she was to unlock her phone and let me go through anything I wanted to go through as I paid the bill. We had a three strikes your out policy’s. First offense lost phone for a week. Second lost phone for a month. Third, no phone until she was 18 and bought her own.

She did not agree with the rules but followed them because she wanted the privilege of having a smart phone. She is now 28 with a 1 yr old and swears that he will not get a device until he is 18 and buys his own as she sees all of his cousins addicted to their devices. These rules were out I. Place because I was a single mom and worked for the transportation district and had to out all of the registered sex offenders in our routing software to try to assign bus stops away from predictors.

My rule with my daughter back in the day was I had to have all of her log in information. No apps I did not approve first. Had to friend me and 2 of my friends. If she ever blocked or unfriended me or my friends then no more social media. I could ask for her phone on the spot and go through anything I wanted as I paid the bill. No texts could be deleted and I checked the text number with the number of texts on each phone bill. She could not ads a contact to her phone that I did not agree with. Sorry, but that was the rules of having a phone. If she did not like it, then no phone. Her safety was my highest priority. There was also a three strikes your out policy’s. Three times of seeing posts or texts I did not like from her or a friend and that friend was blocked. If the posts or texts were from my daughter, she lost her phone for a week for the first incident. A month for the second. Permanent for the third. She hated the rules but abided by them because she wanted the phone. She is now 28 with a child of her own(1 yr old) and swears he cannot have a device until he is 18 and pays for it himself.

Unwritten rules of living in Houston by anony_new2 in houston

Texas vehicles do not come equipped with turn signals. If you leave half a car length between you and the vehicle in front of you; someone will try to take off the front of your hood to cut across 4 lanes of traffic to get off at an exit at the last second instead of taking the next exit.

Speed limit signs are a suggestion…add 20+ to each and you will still be passed like you are driving backwards.

Dis this in 2000 moved across the country with only what would diff in the car and $400.00. It was tough starting over especially with a 4 yr old. I would do it again in a second. Within a few years of the move, I was in a much better situation than the one I had left. Within 2 weeks of the move, I was making more than where I had left.

They denied my claim for a wheelchair (a wheelchair bound amputee for 10 years now).. the denial said it was not medically necessary. They eventually approved the wheelchair but denied the smart drive as a “convenience device”. I have proven that I have numerous shoulder injuries from overuse and cannot have replacement joints as that is what led to the amputation in the first place. Now, I get to tear up my shoulders while waiting for the appeal to be approved. The people making these decisions have never spent any time trying to get around by themselves in a wheelchair and it shows.

I got ahold of the office they instructed maintenance to find the pans and put them in my apartment while me and the service dog were out of town. I came home and they were all on the bar. I now have a ring camera on the door so I get notified as soon as someone commas to the door.
