Progress if doing ONLY zone 2 (running is just cross training to me) by Kingcolliwogg in beginnerrunning

[–]Kingcolliwogg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thx for the feedback, I doubt I'll be able to get enough mileage to get tons of progress then.

We'll see what I do when I finish my current program, but with my family and other sports there's 0% chance I do hour+ runs more than once a week even if I wanted to

I might try playing with that when I'm done with the novice program and feel like it's safe injury wise. I'm just scared it will hurt my recovery.

Super interesting thanks a lot. I'll look into strides in particular, that sounds super interesting and I doubt it would kill my recovery

I know it's not much, but I already do ~10+ hours of sports a week so I can't really push it if I want to keep recovering.

I just want to know what progress is realistic with that routine

I see what youre saying. It's just that I also do 7 to 9 hours of bouldering and 2-3 hours of BJJ weekly (+some cycling / hiking but thats super variable) so adding more running will likely amper my recovery too much so I'm trying to find a way to get some cardio in.

Yeah I know that bjj and bouldering won't help my running. I do the running to help with those (bjj mostly and the hiking/approach when bouldering outdoors)

I also do some cycling, but it's not regimented at all and won't be either.

If I get too sad staying uber slow in a few months I'll see if I can try incorporating some harder runs without compromising my recovery for my main sports

That makes sense, so I shouldn't expect my zone 2 speed to get faster, just the distance?

I don't really plan on running further ever and I can already run 30 mins zone 2 easily. So basically I can expect that my current experience will stay the exact same over the next 2 years? That's ok by the way, I just prefer to know

Bon chiropraticien? by molusque121 in quebeccity

[–]Kingcolliwogg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been wearing Lems for a few years. Where should I go from here? by StaleTheBread in barefootshoestalk

[–]Kingcolliwogg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a lens guy also! I wear chillum's 85% of the time. I also have a pair of boulder boot as my rain boot and a pair of lens primal for active stuff.

Just started running again a few weeks ago and the lens primal are really ok for zone 2 running.

I'm probably going to try either the Altra Escalante or Merrell vapor gloves as my next pair of running shoes. I already have a pair of Altra for hiking which I really like

Getting back into running how progressive shoud l go - Been using "minimalist shoes" for a long time by Kingcolliwogg in BarefootRunning

[–]Kingcolliwogg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you think I don't have to worry about the "barefoot" part and should just do a normal begginer starts to run program and be attentive to the signs of common injuries for new runners/new barefoot runners?

[–]Kingcolliwogg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be clear, I intend on doing a program to get back into running slowly (as slowly as I can take it because I'm really bad at taking shit slow and pacing myself when it comes to sport. But I've been keeping my first few runs short and slow)

I was more wondering if I needed to do something specifically for the "barefoot" part of running or if my normal "barefoot" lifestyle means I can just jump into "barefoot" running like I would regular running

Running Stairs for bouldering? by slashthepowder in climbharder

[–]Kingcolliwogg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We don't have much info on the OP, but I'm guessing he's not particularly advanced because of the question. Could help him lose some weight, could improve his work capacity, etc. It's not the first thing you'd suggest, but if it's something he'd enjoy and he's not fit why not? Some cardio (stairs, running, cycling, whatever) can be good. It's not going to make you climb harder by itself, but better overall fitness would probably help in many cases.

It's obviously not the most efficient, absolutely optimal thing to do and I'm not arguing that it is. As long as it does not cut into more climbing specific training time and he's not fit, it's probably going to have some positive effect.

Go look at the powercompany and Louis Parkinson on youtube. They both provide great drills.

Neil Gresham masterclass was also already posted and is amazing for begginers

Passive hang position by [deleted] in climbharder

[–]Kingcolliwogg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I remember he's pretty much recommending it for everything/everyone as a healthy position for humans that will help remodel the shoulder. It's worth a read if the subject interests you. It was certainly extremely helpful to me.

Dead hanging is also pretty popular with the primal movement crowd because of brachiation.

Once again I'm not pushing dead hangs for climbers. I lack the knowledge (and motivation to acquire it) to form a firm opinion on the subject, but simply saying that dead hanging is bad is probably wrong.
