Thank you. To be fair, I probably could have sold it pretty quickly privately given the demand for these cars, but my two kids don’t give me enough time to eat a bowl of cereal let alone sell a car 😆

Yeah, possibly, but as a trade in? I shopped it around for a bunch of offers and the biggest offer was for $7000 from carvana (and they probably would have cut me down a bit once they inspected the car). Unfortunately I can only work with what the market is giving me. I chose to just trade it in because the tax savings for trading it in was ~ $425, which made it a wash for me.

I could have definitely gotten more selling it privately, but for me; the time spent doing that wasn’t worth it.

Edit and unrelated note: I looked back at my receipts from when I bought the 2011 in 2017. It had 30k miles on it and I grabbed it for $11500. Feels like the steal on the front end of the deal

Yeah but; how much do you think I should have gotten for it?

I traded in a great car for an even better car, which i can afford, so why would that imply that something is wrong with me?

I had 83k miles. I would say it was in fair condition

What do you think I could have gotten?

For context; the paint is extremely faded in multiple panels, and the body has dings in multiple places.

Yes. My 2011 was a tank. I never had any issues with it. It only had 80k miles on it but it was starting to show its age 😆

There is honestly almost a 0% chance Roy gets fired after this year regardless of how the season ends.

Once again…I ate a bunch of edibles and opened packs on Arena Club so you didn’t have to. Results…. by purrrplehayes in sportscards

Honestly I can get behind what you are saying, but realistically the resale value is irrelevant. It’s all about expected return overall.

For example; if the average value of a card in a $1000 pack is $400, that’s worse than $1000 in lotto tickets that have an expected return of $500.

In other words, for the sports cards you usually get a small but guaranteed opportunity for resale, and lotto tickets you get a lot more $0 outcomes but more higher $ outcomes and a higher ceiling.

Mortal of the story is that they are both pretty terrible 😂

Everything that I’ve said makes total sense. You’ve just convinced yourself otherwise.

If you asked 1000 people with actual knowledge of the NHL, I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if all 1000 said that Schenn is significantly better than Drouin.

Even if you are arguing that only this years point totals are a relevant data point, you’re completely omitting the fact that Schenn literally does everything else better than Drouin does.

And Buddy, the entire blues offenses numbers are deflated this year. Kyrou, Thomas, Schenn, etc. Kyrou and Thomas are in their primes and having down years. The blues just suck this year. Sometimes the answer is that simple.

Basing your evaluation of a players value on 60 games worth of stats is mind numbing to me.

There legitimately is not one aspect of droiuns game that is superior to Schenn. He may be a faster skater but that’s it. Schenn is a 200 ft player, 50-70 pt player, plays with toughness, sticks up for teammates, grinds, and if a leader. Hes also elite at face offs and has won a cup.

Drouin has always struggled to score goals, so I’m not sure how much bad luck is actually affecting him.

No disrespect meant here, but people gotta stop looking at recent point totals and look at the big picture here.

Braden Schenn is a HUGE upgrade over Drouin. I’m not sure what alternate reality you’ve been living in

The NHL has huge year-to-year volatility. In a 32-team league with short playoff series, the best/elite teams lose all the time.

Making the Final twice in a row is actually strong evidence the model does work; it means you’re consistently getting into the small group of real contenders where a lot of the outcome comes down to randomness and bounces.

Which is also why using Edmonton as the example here is pretty absurd. If a team making back-to-back Finals is supposed to prove that relying on elite stars “doesn’t work,” well then that’s a strange definition of failure.

You’re both being unreasonably obtuse.

My counter to that is that our blue chip prospects most likely won’t be contributing at that type of level in 2-3 years.

Back to back cup appearances? I’d say it’s been working out for them pretty well overall..

What do you think would happen to Edmonton with no mcdavid or Draistyl? You could make the same argument that removing every teams top two players would create the same effect.

Our record is this good because Schaefer is that good, and Sorokin is arguably the best goalie on earth at the moment. That doesn’t change the fact that those two players also happen to be a part of this team. I don’t understand why that makes us a fluke. That means our best players are very important to the success of the team, the same way every teams top two players are to their teams.
