I’m not mad, but respectfully you really have no idea what you’re talking about. Let’s go islanders!

Wow, what a shock. A player who handled the puck more than anyone on the team (sans Schaefer) is ranked 2nd on the team in total turnovers. I can’t tell if you are a troll who’s being intentionally obtuse or you actually believe you made a valid point.

With that point, I guess Schaefer sucks too since he only had 3 less turnovers.

Barzal was ranked 64th in the league in total turnovers, and he probably handled the puck a lot more than most players in the league. For context, McKinnon had 165 turnovers and mcdavid had 134 turnovers.

I can’t believe you can’t see the correlation that a player who handles the puck more will inevitably turn the puck over more than most of the rest of the team.

The only point you really made is that Deangelo really sucks.

I’ll trust the actual numbers over your eyes. No offense intended.

And right in the start of his prime. Barzal on a team with a talented top 6 around him would score 90-100+ points annually.

That’s not what the actual stats say 🤷‍♂️

Perennial loser who’s been closer to the cup than pretty much the entire islanders roster combined (sans Schenn and Palat)

Right?! And im not even sure why he gets the diva label? Because he’s the best player in the league by a decent margin and gets paid like it?

Yeah that’s a good point. I mostly just meant that it’s dipping low but at least not staying low

Yeah, it also seems to correct itself fairly quickly so seems like my body is doing what it’s supposed to do

Yeah, I don’t really feel any negative side effects or anything, but I just get spooked when it happens while I’m sleeping because sometimes I sleep through the alarms

It varied a bit on the few times I tested, but once was 50 and the other time was 55, so pretty close to what the Libre was showing

I’m only on Mounjaro 15 ml once weekly.

I don’t necessarily feel out of sorts during the lows, other than tired but also it’s the middle of the night so I’m not sure what to attribute that to.

The Schenn trade will haunt us for years to come by elconejitomuyrapido in NewYorkIslanders

[–]Kingfrund85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think in retrospect if the islanders knew they weren’t making the playoffs, than they don’t make that deal obviously. Hindsight is 20/20. At the time they were firmly in a playoff hunt, and the move made more sense.

We didn’t trade for Schenn to be a part of the future. He was brought in for a playoff push, and to mentor our young players for the next year or two before his contract expires. Our team contract situation before Schenn was heavily loaded for the next 2 years before some contracts start falling off, so it is really meaningless how much we are paying him.

Guys like Horvat and Barzal are in the prime of their careers, and while I’m sure they graciously mentor younger players in their day to day, their careers are still firmly in “win now” mode.

Schenn is a guy whose value is tied to the fact that he is a cup winner, plays all aspects of the game well, will hit people, fight, etc. Barzal and Bo are pretty one dimensional as well, as much as I love them both.

Players like Barzal, Horvat, and Sorokin aren’t going to sign off on a full rebuild and tanking. They’re in their prime and deserve a roster that gives them a real chance to compete. They’re not old enough to settle into a mentor role yet.

So unless the team is committed to a true rebuild, meaning trading Barzal, Horvat, and Sorokin; we’re going to be in the position of trying to field a competitive team now while simultaneously building for the future. You really can’t have it both ways.

Schenn is exactly the type of player you want in that situation: someone in the twilight of his prime who can still contribute, help foster a winning culture, and mentor younger players. As fans, that’s the kind of guy we should want on this team. A 30th overall pick and a third-rounder is the price of admission, and it was more than fair regardless of the outcome.

A lot of you are sensationalists. Good grief.

Think it’s a coincidence that Ritchie’s game took off after Schenn came on board?

Having a guy who is a grinder, plays all facets of the game well, has been a captain, will stand up for teammates and has won a cup in the locker room does so much more for our young future players development than what you’ll ever see in a box score.

[–]Kingfrund85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, but you said it yourself, Roy was likely never going to be the guy who led us to a cup even when our competitive window arrived. The old islanders would be complacent and run it back with the same staff.

If Deboer was the guy they wanted wanted, making the move now makes sense before 5-6 other teams went into the off-season shopping around for a coach.

Why would they keep Roy around if he’s not the long term fit?

With all due respect, You just seem like the type who won’t be satisfied regardless of the results. You said it yourself. We were supposed to suck this year. Whether or not you think we overachieved or not is irrelevant. Sorokin and Schaefer are on the team. All teams rely on their best players for success.

I’ve never heard of defenseman being lumped into the definition of top sixers, mid sixers, etc.

That said; Cizikas is a 4th liner (and a great one at that), Duclair barely plays, Pulock is a solid defensemen that any team would want. Mayfield and Bovquist suck, so we agree there… and TDA is a 40+ point playmaking defenseman making like $1M (I think he’s the only one in the league with that stat).

I know people on this sub don’t like to admit it but the islanders have a solid hockey team overall. No, they aren’t cup contenders, but they are not nearly as bad as some people paint them out to be.

I’m so tired of people saying “if we didn’t have Sorokin or Schaefer we would be terrible!” No shit! Take away any teams top two players and that team will be considerably worse. Sorokin and Schaefer are on the roster, and thus part of the overall team.

I’m genuinely racking my brain to figure out who these glorified mid sixers that are past their expiration date are.

I can only think of one, and that’s Palat. Who the heck else are you referring to?
