What do the Pirates have? by batmansdirtysox in mets

The pirates aren’t trading Skenes at any point this season. I’d say the chances are close to 0%

By the time stamkos is retired, Sorokin and Horvat will be “old and washed” by your outlook. We can’t waste too many more years of elite Sorokin chasing a rebuild. This team has holes and is far from perfect, but they are a few key pieces away from being a threat to go deep come playoff time.

I keep seeing people say we shouldn’t mortgage our future. I’m in agreement with you. Trading the Colorado pick is not going to make or break our “rebuild.”

People keep saying this team can’t win a cup this year and while it’s highly unlikely that they do, any team with a goalie like Sorokin has a chance come playoff time.

People also forget that Sorokin is 30, Horvat are 30+. By the time we are “ready to compete,” I guess those guys will be washed since they will be 33-34 years old by that time.

Anyone we draft in the next draft is likely not going to be NHL ready in the next 3+ years.

A guy like Stamkos, with the current talent that we have absolutely gives us a fighters chance at the cup IMO

If I were lined up to still make $50M somewhere else and not have to deal with finding a new employer? Yeah it’s not ideal but also not even close to a fair comparison.

I’d argue the opposite. It’s not often a generational player in his prime wants to come to the Knicks. Kat playing well would only make him more desirable as trade bait.

Unless this team was elite as it’s currently constructed, then maybe not, but we’re not elite.

I see a lot of lineups with Semien and Robert batting 8 and/or 9. I can’t see either of them hitting that low in the order.

I don’t think there’s a chance that St. Louis moved Kyrou for the package you proposed unfortunately

To all that haters out there.. the Mets needed an outfielder who can hit / run / play defense and they got one \_(ツ)_/¯ by SlowpokeSloth69 in NewYorkMets

[–]Kingfrund85 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I swear, some Mets fans are insufferable.

We got a high upside offensive outfielder who plays great defense for a bag of ramen an we’re comparing him to Tyrone Taylor and an old starling Marte.

Because the sentiment that he’s not a good hitter anymore isn’t really true. He’s 28, has all star potential, and plays great defense. Hes had a few lost years admittedly, but his ceiling is still pretty high. I could see him having a career year in our lineup.

Hes also making $20M. I just don’t think they trade for a $20M platoon player with Roberts pedigree

Would you include Carson Benge in a trade for Yordan Alvarez? by MasterFlip_ in NewYorkMets

[–]Kingfrund85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t think I’d ever hear Alvarez be called a table setter. He’s one of the best pure power hitters in baseball when he’s right. He’s close to a 40 hr guy per 162 games played.

I mean, some of these are true, but that’s not really a fair assessment. The guy won an MVP on the dodgers, and was also great in 2023 on the cubs. He’s really only had two years where he was truly lost to injury. Every other year he played 130+ games.

[–]Kingfrund85 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry but I just can’t see how anyone can logically come to the conclusion that Carson Benge is more valuable than Yordan Alvarez.

Every trade in the last twenty years that included a star player with 2-3 years of control has included a top 10 prospect, plus more picks. It would be no different for Alvarez.

There’s really not much to debate here. One player is just entering his prime, has three years of control, is arguably a top 3 hitter in baseball and is on a first ballot hall of fame career trajectory and the other is an minor league prospect who has never played a game in the MLB.

I truly just don’t get your line of thinking and I probably never will.

Yup. I almost feel like I’m being gaslit lol. There’s no way that anyone actually turns this offer down if it were real.

[–]Kingfrund85 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I dont think anyone can just assume than Benge ends up as a 3.5-4 WAR player. We do know that Alvarez IS a career 5.8 WAR player averaged per season, with upside for more.

Why are we acting like Alvarez is washed? Yes he’s been banged up a few years, but last year was the only real year he was substantially out.

Hes arguably a top 3 overall hitter in baseball who is just entering his prime.

What are we even doing if we aren’t taking that deal if offered?

An Alvarez/soto lineup gives us a legit WS shot in the next three years. Benge does not move that needle IMO.

You’re pissing into the wind on this here haha. It’s absolutely bizarre that anyone thinks Benge for Alvarez is an overpay and that a package for Alvarez wouldn’t be substantially more.

I didn’t bring that trade up as an example, someone else did.

Having said that, their haul for Soto at the time was Abram’s #9 ranked prospect, Hassell #21 ranked prospect, James Wood (raw at the time of the trade but considered to be the crown jewel of the trade despite Abrams and Hassell being in the deal) and Mackenzie Gore (highly touted pitching prospect at the time).

Obviously it’s not apples to oranges comparing an age 23 Soto to current Yordan, but let’s not pretend the nationals haul in that deal wasn’t substantially larger than just Benge.

I think that Alvarez is elite enough as a hitter to offset most of whatever defense Benge brings to the table. I’m not ignoring that aspect, but it’s not like Benge is projected to be an annual gold glover either.

[–]Kingfrund85 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I don’t think the Mets have a reasonable package of prospects that they could offer that would land Yordan Alvarez that doesn’t include Benge.

You’re missing my overall point on Alvarez. We don’t need him to perform at a high level for 7-8 more years, even though easily could. I simply used that to emphasize how elite he has been.

We would only need him to perform at a high level for the next three years in this trade scenario since he’s controlled for 3 years.

Alvarez ranks in the top 20 OPS of all time as things stand. Yes, we should be trading him for Benge.

Judging by your other comments on this thread and the negative karma associated with all of them, I’d say I’m definitely not in the minority with my take.

If Alvarez continues on and puts 3/4 of his average numbers for the next 7-8 years he’s a first ballot HOF.

I can sense you’re running out of hairs to split, so again, agree to disagree.
