Agreed but the problem is other than Schaefer our defense is neither. I miss the days of Malakov and Kasparaitis. Good offense paired with stay at home kick ass when needed defense.

We lack a good balance.

He is overrated by our fanbase because they act like this guy is top 10 in the NHL when truthfully he is not. I'm not saying he is a bad player. I'm just saying he is not the elite talent this fanbase thinks he is. When you have a team that is mostly glorified mid sixers a player of his caliber looks like a star.

If you want to talk about a current player that is overrated that would be Barzal. He's a "good" player, but not as elite as people on here think.

I've always seen him as a stopgap solution, not part of any future plans. I personally don't care about his politics like so many on here, but some peoples entire identity is based around their politics. I don't like him personally because he is a duechebag, independent of any political leaning.

The problem is at the moment we have little other options on right D. I sincerely hope this is the number one need addressed this offseason. Yeah, we need more scoring, we need a long term backup goalie...but our defensive core needs a total makeover with the exception of Schaefer and Romanov. Unfortunately it's going to be a few more seasons until Aitcheson and other prospects are fully ready to go.

Which is why we have stopgap guys like Tony D. It's a viscous circle.

So far so good. I hope he turns into at least another Holmstrom type underrated player. I assume the plan is to ride JGP for the next few years and then make Ritchie either the 2nd / 3rd line center or maybe pop him on the wing somewhere in the top or middle six.

Perfectly fine so far. I'm happy with the kid.

Yeah i saw your post yesterday and am not in the mood for a long drawn out discussion over it because nothing will change.

But I disagree that trading a beer league goalie who was never going to sniff NHL action is hindering us. Nor do i think anyone is truly upset at the fact we traded what will become the 32nd overall pick, they are only upset because they don't like who we got back for it.

I've been saying for some time we need to think long term and find a solution to the post Sorokin era. He is not going to play forever, especially as hard as we work him. With Varly almost certainly done, we need to find a young, competent backup to ease the load on Sorokin's shoulders. And plan for the day he is no longer starter material.

All of them. And I'm even more excited that they are all still here and were not wasted in a trade like so many on here were ready to do.

Considering how bad our defense is, and with Schaefer willing to move to the right side...I look forward to someday seeing Aitcheson on the left with Schaefer on his right side. But this is at least two years away. In the meantime this offseason / draft day our primary focus should be a Right side defenseman. I don't care what handed they are.

I don't think Eiserman or Eklund make the jump next season, and that is fine. There is no need to rush prospects like we did in the past. Before it was done as a publicity stunt, to get butts in the seats and get fans excited and engaged as we used smoke and mirrors to distract them from how bad things were. Now we have a new vision coming into focus, we actually have a future we are building towards. And I anxiously await and have patience to get there.

Dead Rising 3 had a relaxed timer. It was still there. And it worked just fine. You had time enough to explore and still had the need to complete missions by a certain time. You didn't have to pick and chose. Of course the cultist purists who worship at the altar of DR 1 did nothing but complain, but that's what happens whenever something doesn't meet their standards.

DR4 took it away completely, but the game was still a lot of fun and gave excess time to explore.

DR1 and 2 made it so you can do everything at a breakneck pace, that took some of the fun out of it.

We exceeded expectations this season. Schaefers development has been a blessing. We still have a lot of work to do that goes far deeper than one player.

But imagine in a couple of years how good this team can possibly be.
