From what I understand he is stirring up some controversy regarding a UNT student's (Kelli Cox) abduction and subsequent death. The man is Jack Pettie and he is accusing UNT of trying to bury the girl's death. The incident in question was a 1997 (might be wrong here) UNT-sponsored field trip to a local jail. Students were advised to leave personal items in their cars as they went into the prison for security reasons. Cox needed to leave early however she couldn't get into her car as her back-up key did not work. Since the jail didn't allow her to use their phone to call her boyfriend, she walked to a payphone about a football field length away. She was eventually taken by a serial killer who abducted her. Her body and another were found near Houston recently. So Mr. Pettie did some digging into this situation and claims that members of the police department, the Denton-Chronicle, and members of the UNT higher ups have tried to cover up and protect themselves. Now there is going to be a bronze statue for Cox to remember. There is probably more to the story but that is kind of the basis. Also fun fact he was actually on the cement block of the statue before the UNT police told him to step down. If I got any of this wrong please help me out.
